SJU Transfer Targets/Possibilities

Now with GW and Earlington in the portal, the amount of upheaval on the team is a bit unsettling for a continuation of this year's end of season momentum into next year's squad.  And major reliance on 3 freshmen may be necessary, but unrealistic to think they each could be so impactful as Posh and Wusu were this year.

Well CMA may never have an easier time determining team captains.  And I don’t think you can really blame any of this on a flash. This is an unparalleled situation.

There was a jealousy factor, I'm told, of the attention the New York guys received with certain players who have left St. John's. #sjubb

Wow.  Oh well.  Let’s grab the Arkansas kid and a few more.

If true, that's some petty crap.  Our top two players happen to be New York guys in Champ and Posh, so ya never know. Although I do think Williams (Louisiana native) and Moore (South Carolinian) were next up as the better talent on the team.

I can't say I'm surprised if those jealousy allegations are true.

EDIT: I intended to add Dunn (New Yorker) in there as well.

So we have lost, or may lose, 10 players from last year’s roster.  Frustrating!

St. John's is involved with several transfers, I'm told. "We'll be fine." #sjubb

I really liked Williams and Earlington. Wonderful SJU players who I appreciated. That being said...

Maybe I'm crazy but I don't see this as a disaster. I think this is more change (which like the coaching search is often painful in the short term) as the program continues to change identity. My gut says in a couple of months this board will be pleasantly surprised with the new roster. Not to imply that I wouldn't prefer keeping two major contributors that were upperclassman, it just feels like there are things happening we don't know about and just because those things made outgoing players unhappy/restless/whatever doesn't mean they're necessarily bad for the program.

I think many of these transfers are ok,  but the sheer number this year is concerning.  I’d have preferred to leave it at 4 but it’s a crazy year.  That said, thus far we have kept our most valuable pieces IMO and need to rebuild with some better parts.  Losing Earlington and GWill is tough as they were solid contributors.  Will need some impact transfers.  Seems like it makes it important to land a guy like Desi Sills to replace GWill and I think he will likely have 2 years eligibility.

Let’s see what happens. Need Champs back for sure.

We will have a roster, so yea we have that excitement in rebuilding it to look forward too. But what any transfer or recruit would be joining right now is hard to figure out.

I guess I just felt completely fine with the losses up until both of these guys. With them we had a 5 man group we could walk out tomorrow and play BE teams with. Without them, we could win any 3 on 3 tourney in NYC, not much else.

I want to be in this camp and it makes sense, but with how we recruit, how on earth are we going to fill 7 slots?

There's over 1500 options to choose from

Haha!  A funny reply, which also has a ton of merit.

So much for the reports of the TEAM buying into the CMA system.

Except do we really get to choose? Have to beat some heavyweights for some prime talent not an easy thing for US to do.

True.  But the post still was on point, nonetheless.  There are a bunch of players in which we can choose from the pack.

As Steve Cohen said, It takes two to tango.

True.  But that's insinuating we're going to strike out on all the transfers in the portal (we've already landed one).  I don't think we're going to go an 0'fer the remainder of the way.

Dink it's not the quantity but the quality. Of course we can pick up the Toro's, Caraher's, and Rutherford's but where is that going to get you. let's see him for once beat out the heavyweights for a recruit.

I'm not exactly about to jump off a cliff, and I know other programs are dealing with defections as well(not that I give a rat's ass about other programs), but how anyone can put any kind of positive spin on loosing 9(+/-) players at one time,  from a program which has been in the dumps for so many years is and trying to rebuild it's brand,  is way beyond my comprehension level. I don't care if this kids were CMA recruits or not. I don't care if these kids are high D1 caliber players or not. I don't care who their replacements are at the moment.  This F'in sucks right no now matter how you slice it.  We're in a huge hole, we'll see how far out if it the staff can dig.
