SJU now 20th in AP Poll

Creighton

True. But no Dougie McBucket's or Wragge this yr for Creighton.

Wragge sucked. What is this board's fascination with him? Amar is better than Wragge and it seems every poster wants to call his career already.
I think Amar could develop, but "Oh my" on that comparison.

Wragge stood on the three point line and shot open looks when McDermott drew his man far enough away. 234 out of 242 of his shots were three pointers. He had no mobility, no handle, he didn't defend well, and he didn't rebound well. I think Amar (as well as Myles and Hooper) would have done pretty well in that role.

6 of Wragge's first quarter 3s vs Nova last year were with a hand in his face and they were from the NBA line and beyond.

If Amar could do that, Lavin doesn't deserve an extension. He deserves Coach of the Year and a hefty raise.

I'm all for hoping out commits develop.

But the hyperbole is through the roof.

Amar is not in Wragge's stratosphere.

Hard to figure out your hypothesis. If you are positing that Amar in first year would have done pretty well assuming Wragge's role, you are mistaken. If you are saying he could grow into that production & 3 point shooting % by his senior year, I would love that, but let's see. You did say in your "over the top as usual" assertion that Amar is better than Wragge. It may be prudent to see a larger sample size for Amar. I guess when Marillac says something, it it is fact. You attack your own credibility with this nonsense.

If we want to crack top 10 CO needs to step up. Starting with his maturity on the court and having his offense on point. His blocks and rebounds are solid, once he gets his emotions under control and puts the ball in the hoop, consistently, we will be a force to be reckoned with.

Without throwing water on all this love, this isn't a top ten team, so let's be reasonable in our assessments. For my money, I'll be happy with a tourney team, a trip somewhere, and one or two tournament wins.
I'm with you. The problems individuals had on this team last year have improved, but there are still problems. CO has to keep his emotions in check, D'Lo still doesn't defend the top of the key well against opposing guards, Rasheed needs to play more like a point guard. All things that have been mentioned, and then there's the coaching, but go Redmen!

What is nonsense? I think Wragge is grossly overrated and always have. He averaged 10 ppg once so let's not pretend he's some basketball God. He was one of the easiest players in the country to defend. He literally did nothing even average other than shoot. From before the Creighton game last season:

"I think you guys are all overestimating Wragge. Wragge does what he does because McDermott is a BEAST. He draws double and sometimes triple teams. When guys cheat or get lost, that is when Wragge strikes.

Let McDermott get his 30 against a solid defender like Dom/Sampson and stay close enough to touch Wragge all night. Overplay and deny all night. Let him go backdoor...he has taken six two-point FGs all year!"

We let McDermot to go nuts and Wragge scored a combined 8 points on 2-7 shooting in two games.

Yeah, he averaged 7 ppg as a junior in the Missouri Valley Conference. That is Walter Berry stuff right there.

Never said Wragge was a "God" or much about him. The "nonsense" was you comparing him to Amar prematurely & saying Amar was better. If you don't get that I'll move on. Thanks for regurgitating useless posts.

And Amar has notched a total of 3 points this season.

There has been no tape from Italy or anything we've seen on the court that shows Amar having potential besides someone who sets hard screens.

When asked about Amar's upside, int'l expert Fran Fraschilla called it a free sight-seeing trip overseas for Lavin.

I think you need to come to the realization that Amar was simply the bait to hook his cousin. Nothing more and nothing less.

If he serves as a solid big body in practice to help CO's development, that's just gravy.

But a Wragge he is not.

What do you think Wragge would have done on St. John's? We already saw...his name was Max Hooper.

On topic. Next best thing to the Redmen being ranked 20/23 is that UConn(victs), Ex'Cuse and the Pitts aren't within a sniff of the top 25 or even "others receiving votes"

Both men's and women's teams are ranked this week. Women came in at #25 today in the USA Today Coaches poll.

Congratulations to our guys and gals!

So, Cincy had a chance to knock off #19 San Diego State, yet is playing as dumb down the stretch as we've seen them play in the past. Now the game is in OT. And, Cronin is a mess on the sidelines. Staring down the refs, cursing at them, yelling at his players. He's embarrassing.

# 19 San Diego State lose in OT @ our former BE foe Cincinnati.

Bearcats arena was rockin'.

Cincy played a much better OT than they did the last 5 minutes of regulation. Good outcome for us.

Cronin lucky not to be T'd up.

SJU can move up in the polls in the next week - teams ahead of us facing the following:
# 19 San Diego St. lost to Cincinnati
# 18 Miami plays Providence on Sunday at the Barclays Center
# 17 Maryland plays at 9-1 Oklahoma State Sunday
# 16 Washington and # 15 Oklahoma play each other in Las Vegas Saturday

if everything breaks right for us we can move to the top 15
