SJU now 20th in AP Poll

I'm cautiously optimistic. We are playing well, and have a couple of non-conference games that could give us trouble. I'm really waiting for the Big East season with anticipation. It's a promising start, given the god awful start last year. Now they don't have to climb out of a big hole, and can instead build on success game to game. Being ranked is nice, but at this point in the season a single misstep will have us bounced out. Good defense, good ball movement on offense, and knock down big shots - all signs of a tourney team. Keep it going guys.

Don't even sweat it. We got this on lock down.
We're balling right now, and we will continue to ball right into the tournament, barring injuries that is.
You make Marillac look like a pessimist. LOL

Best part is even if we lose to St. Mary's we'll still be around #27 or #28 and could easily jump back in. Of course, if we beat St. Mary's we'll probably be ranked around #16 the following week with a chance at top 10 by end of the year.

Stop that "if we lose" crap.
It isn't happening.

Lol well I think we'll beat St. Mary's just saying it's good we're building up a cushion now. Another week or two of winning would really solidify us as a top 25 team.

Butler created some breathing room and is still ranked after their loss @ Tenn.

Also, something to keep in mind regarding SMC is they're 6-1 and have a chance at being ranked if they beat SJU. Want to see the team giving 100% effort start to finish because SMC will.

Just show up. Anyone who posts on here and within 40 miles of CA should be there on Friday. We need a real homecourt advantage and by Friday students will be home. We need to make CA a place no one wants to visit (besides our fans.)

Trust me Richard, would I ever lie to the board?
We got this secured, it's just the way it is.

If we want to crack top 10 CO needs to step up. Starting with his maturity on the court and having his offense on point. His blocks and rebounds are solid, once he gets his emotions under control and puts the ball in the hoop, consistently, we will be a force to be reckoned with.

Without throwing water on all this love, this isn't a top ten team, so let's be reasonable in our assessments. For my money, I'll be happy with a tourney team, a trip somewhere, and one or two tournament wins.

and UConn wasn't a top 10 team last year

Not yet maybe, but remember what most on this board had this team pegged as before the season started. Can you say definitively that Nova is better than us?

it will also be important when we make the ncaa's who is in our "pod"

when we were a 2 seed in 2000 we were picked by just about everyone to come out of the west that year and goto the final 4 - we had a horrible draw in the second round which was basically a home game for Gonzaga out west and we all know what happened...just like uconn got home games in the sweet 16 and elite 8 last year playing in msg.

we may be better suited being a 6 seed in the east and playing in charlotte then syracuse than being a 4 seed and playing in portland oregon and then the staples center

St. John's now ranked in both polls! SJU debuts at #23 in the Coach's Poll. Congrats gentleman. Time to take care of business against a bad matchup on Friday.

Just gotta play our game.
Press and and guard the three-ball, they pass it inside and CO will shut that down.
On offense just continue to do what we been doing.

I don't mind RJ coming off the bench, he'll still get 35minutes in this one.
Branch isn't hurting us on offense, he doesn't turn it over and gets plenty of assists.

Everyone is all nervous about Saint Mary's, something is telling me not to even sweat this game.

gotta love it!im soaking it all in. Its been awhile since we've been here. Friday is a huge game for us, these kids know that team well. I dont sense a letdown. Now, Lav needs to hit up those recuits and ask them if they have senn the polls. St Johns is legit. He also can boast how CO has grown into a force in 3 years. We NEED Sampson and Diallo to commit to keep this going. Congrats to the boys and staff. All the hard work is paying off. Now just stay FOCUSED!!!
Go Johnnies!!

Are you discounting their win over that vaunted powerhouse The Anteaters of UC Irvine?

I am all for preparation but seriously, who has SMC beaten? I guess they will be fired up for NY and a # 20 ranked SJU but that said...

We will be favored, should win, but beating Creighton before 18,000 fans Saturday should not be dismissed. St. Mary's is a solid opponent. Glad they are traveling all over the country though, not exactly restful.

Boise St won at Saint Mary's, yeah I know they're 8-2 but is this FBall
And what about that mighty Montana team taking SMU to OT at SMU.

They dont even have votes in the new top25.

Creighton

True. But no Dougie McBucket's or Wragge this yr for Creighton.

Wragge sucked. What is this board's fascination with him? Amar is better than Wragge and it seems every poster wants to call his career already.

You are 100% correct about Wragge. The 27 he hung on Nova last year is a figment of my imagination.

As for McBucket's... not fit to carry Amar's luggage :p

All I am saying is Creighton 2015 ain't Creighton 2014 and nothing to fear about St. Mary's Gaels.

Can I answer this January 7th? :) I had said preseason that I felt we'd be close to an NCAA team, but if I had to predict say we would miss. If you recall, what I said was the key to improvement was to play well in crunch time. We've gotten off to a pretty nice start and have played well in crunch time, but we have to keep it going. I'm not going off the deep end either way. I like these guys, and they are using their quickness and athleticism to offset the lack of height and it's worked so far.
