It looks like there has been 3 or 4 waivers granted over the last week throughout football and basketball, which has to be a good sign.
Depends

Am I wrong to wonder if SJU hasn't done all it needs to do in terms of teeing this up?

Despite it being St. John's, I'd be shocked if Heron doesn't get his hardship waiver request granted.
The 'timing' is perfect.
Transfer policy is scheduled for a major change this Fall, plus the NCAA is under pressure to do more for the college athlete and needs positive PR with scandals hovering overhead.
I think the Heron family wins on this.

Yeah, if this happened one year ago I'd be far less optimistic.

Yes, agree Adam. It's a 'trend' in motion. Hard to stop.
I'm giddy, we may finally get 'good news' from the NCAA--but it's not for 'us', it's for the Heron family.
Plus, the kid is a model student as well as a top athlete and Auburn supported the move.
Mustapha gets the waiver.

Great point Chicago, hope Mustapha"s mom is doing better.

If Heron is eligible, expectations will be high, and rightfully so. Without question a top 10 backcourt nationally. That alone should have us dancing. Put up or shut up time for the staff, and all of us that believe in them.

Amen!
Anyone have any idea for Harris receiving a waiver? All circumstances are unique to the individual student athlete, but still curious at criteria that NCAA finds to be compelling. The article (link) does not specify the reason:

The kid's reasons to transfer seem to have been 'PT'-oriented, and 'maybe' wanting to go back home and play locally He wasn't on an NC State scholarship, initially, maybe because they were 'full'?
But no mention of 'hardship' that I can gather.
I think it's one more example of the NCAA currently being very pro active in its transfer rules.
The ball, she be rolling...fast...down hill.
Hard to stop.

This 'must' be good news for Mustapha.

Sounds very similar to circumstances around Cheatham's transfer from Marquette to FGC. He would have been eligible in December but was apparently granted waiver to play the full year

While I have read all the accolades about the quality of Player that Heron is , I am not familiar with his Game and how he fits into our lineup with Ponds, Simon and Clark as Returnees and Figueroa , Keita Dixon as Transfers plus holdover Trimble and our newcomer freshman . Anyone have some insight ? I would like to know the Sites opinions .

Agree Richard. Adds great depth to an already deep guard/wing lineup. Heron is a great slasher and adds to what should be a very fluid offense, with Dixon and Figueroa hooking up with Ponds, Simon, Clark...and Keita for critical work underneath.
Plus, Heron and Figueroa should improve our Defense.
Looking good.

Sly, below is a scouting report of MH from an NBA perspective prepared for Dallas Mavericks before NBA draft this year. Clearly it is just one scout's opinion, but will give you an idea of his perceived strengths & weaknesses.

Tools: Scoring, defense
Pros:
Very vocal- always pointing to teammates where to be and where to go. Team first guy
Good rebounder for his position
Spot up shooting potential
Solid athlete
High motor
Quick first step;
Good defensive IQ
Gets to the line at a high rate. He attempted 6 free throws per 40 minutes in his two seasons at Auburn.
Good frame
Excellent in transition both with and without the ball
Cons:
Shot still a work in progress- good follow through, but poor base; missing open 3s he should be making
Needs to improve consistency in mechanics
Must improve scoring off the dribble
Poor shot selection at times
Overall: Heron is a left hander that can play both 2 and 3. Has the defensive decision making and defensive tools to become a two way player. His high FT% indicates that he can become a better shooter than he was in college. He is a natural scorer that doesn’t need to force anything to get his buckets or to be a positive impact on the team.

Since Heron and Ponds are both , Lefties , maybe Mullin can improve their Shooting percentages . Few players have as Classic a shooting stroke as CM. Do we have any other Lefties on the team ? This Year’s Team is shaping up to be the most Talented in a long while . The NBA Scouting Report on Heron indicates his team play mentality , a real plus on our Roster . We have a lot of guys who can score , distributing the Ball will be key to Team success . Thanks to the guys who replied to my question about Heron .
