Well, it's good to know that people "suspect" Mitch will be here and completely engaged from now through the end of the season. And, further, that he will be pulled in when the situation seems closable.

Wait a minute, he is a full time assistant coach. Am I supposed to be thankful?

#BushLeague
What is so hard to understand that a coach has terms that would allow him to be away from NY in the summer? Now if his contract called for him to be here during the summer and he wasn't, that's another story. I don't know what his deal is or what he is making, so why speculate?
If those are the terms of his contract, and it sounds like you don't know for sure, do these terms also relieve him of recruiting duties? This is a normal part of an assistant coach's responsibilities and it would be hard to sell the idea that Mitch has been an active participant in this area.

Given the information a fan could glean, you can't be surprised about the disappointment. I know this is a tired topic, but I have trouble with the whole......hey great news, guys.....Mitch is back in town and will be around all season!

Yes true. Correct me, if I'm mistaken, but I don't think Mitch has been fully engaged in the recruiting process the past two years.
At this point, I'm happy he 'may be' now and 'going forward', because I think he'd be very effective at it--particularly, in duo-format with Mully.
A powerful team, imho.

I can't argue that this would be a welcomed improvement. However, recruiting is about relationships, relentless communication and scouting. Not just visits. Our competition typically has at least two coaches conducting a full range recruiting efforts. While we try to resurrect our program, I would want us to do the same.

That's for sure the truth is with arthritis I lost 2 inches over 44 yrs. Guess you can go from a forward to a guard
Where is it written that the mechanics for recruiting has to be the same for every team?
Why don’t you take a poll and ask every top 25 team last year how many of their coaches were out there recruiting. I’m pretty sure they all had more than we had.
It’s pretty obvious that you will defend anything that involves Coach, I get he can’t do anything wrong in your eyes.

Gimbels obviously didn't listen.

I agree. I'm just happy we got 'this' right...finally.
I'd actually rather think that Mitch's contract doesn't give him the summer off but Coach allowed him to take this summer off for some good reason that is between them. Time will tell.
There plenty of attorneys here so I will defer to them but Mitch and staff are employed by St. John's and a contract is a contract unless a special arrangement was made to prorate his salary with Mullin's blessings.
If Mullin wanted Rice, and this special arrangement and if the university is still on the line for $600 annually to Slice, the administration may have drawn a line in the sand with staffing requests by Mullin. Just a guess but I couldn't see spending close to 1 million annually and to pay for 1 and one half of a headcount position.

Maybe someone can tell me Mitchell,s

Maybe someone can tell me What are Mitch’s
duties and what has he accomplished for
the program to date

Did I say that?

Did everyone on lavin's staff recruit? Roberts?
Did Keady recruit? Al lobalbo? If you roll it back all the way do you think the entire staff was at sju year round?
I've already questioned what mr's role is, but I dont go calling our program bush league because one assistant wasnt around this summer.

We've already seen some of you declare Mullin wasn't around at all, until paul corrected you with that nasty word facts.
Thought this was the “Official Visits” thread, does anybody know where I can find it?
Just complain enough and the offending posts will get moved to "endless chatter." And then five other guys will enter the endless chatter thread and complain about that one too.

I'm so confused, this is now the "endless chatter " thread? I saw all the new comments and thought we got news on Heron

The second you brought Keady into the conversation instantly shows how desperate you are for comparisons. Very weak and didn’t expect that from you.

I logged in this morning and saw 23 new posts on the Heron thread. I was thinking we got a ruling but instead I found out yet another thread has gone off the rails.  :eek:hmy:

Desperate? Come on Mike. I will call a spade a spade, and have always done so on here. My point is that there are substantive things here to discuss. I honestly don't even pay much attention to the entire coaching staff, but I do know historically we have had assistants who did not put in the kind of effort people are demanding of MR, and certainly recruiting was NOT an entire staff effort. I seriously doubt Willis Reed while here did more than MR than to babysit Wayne McKoy who thought he was the next coming even as he regressed into mediocrity. Carmine Calzonetti didn't recruit, and I don't believe Mahoney did as an assistant - but then again, ass Looie used to say, his recruiting budget was a roll of tokens.

The question to me isn't what MR isn't doing, it really is what is he doing to bring value to the program.

There was a silly comment posted here that inferred that since recruiting is about relationships that MR is deficient there, when the reality is that it's Matt's job to build a relationship and Chris' role in that regard is secondary.

Keady and Willis Reed were not "assistant coaches" and were not allowed to recruit by rule.
