What worries me is that in crunch time this team stands around and waits for Dangelo to make a play. And he knows it. Forcing shots that make you cringe until they go in is not a strategy for long term success.

Dangelo has got to start showing some faith in his teammates when he's double teamed coming off a pick.
It's a slap in the face to Jakarr every time Dangelo chucks up a prayer rather than passing back to his wide open teammate,

The prayers went in today. And I love that Dangelo is on our team. But it's basketball 101... If they trap you off a pick pass it back to the pick-man.

The problem is that Lavin had Branch out and Phil in.
The offense stalls when Phil is at PG and someone (usually D'Angelo) is forced to do something.

I was hoping that he would it Phil bu he didn't.

Phil had a solid game today ten points, three assist, and five boards. His court vision need some work but a solid game

Sounds like the Knicks and Melo. Like it or not teams are going to their go to guy at crunch time. I'd rather move the ball and find an open shot but more often then not teams dont do that.

Yea, it's not a bad thing to have the ball in your best players hands.
I guess I'd rather move the ball and get a good shot too. But if Dlo is going to keep hitting the,...

And '98, I totally agree. Couldn't understand why Branch disappeared in the second half.

But, we won. So we learn and we move on. Lets take care of business against DePaul and then we can really start to get excited.

Hard to believe we are tied for 3rd isn't it? Really makes you think now, if we had like 4 very winnable games back we would be 17-3 (6-2) right now likely with a #20 next to our name. Still though, for a very young team 5-3 in the hardest conference in America is a badge of honor. If I were Lavin, I would pound this into their heads: we are now 5-3...many expect us to drop off...they look at us in 3rd place and say it's a fluke. They expect us to lose to L'Ville, Cuse, Marquette, G'Town, etc. but too bad for them games are not played on paper. WE control our own destiny from here on out. The tourney spot is there with our name on it...how bad do we want it? Let's turn the Big East on its head and have another late run like 2011 shocking everyone.

I just did some quick math and analysis. If we won all of our games we'd be 20-0 right now - unbelievable. We also just arrived at the 20 games mark, which if I counted correctly, means we played 20 games.
_______________

Other equally fascinating facts for members to think over. Had SJ lost all 20 games they'd 0-20 and had those games been evenly split they'd be 10-10.

Got to have Dom available down the stretch. Seen the fold a few times when coach had to take him out with 4.

What becomes accentuated is that right now we have 4 front liners in the rotation - Garrett, Obepka, Jakarr, and Pointer. With a three guard offense, its almost imperative that Pointer be on the floor alot. Remove Pointer from our front line as we did in the last ten minutes (from 4th foul to 5 minute mark) and that was all it took for SHu to creep back. Also very questionable shot selection in that period, under Harrison hit a couple of no-don't-shoo-great-shot shots.

Good, enthusiastic crowd there today got to see nice win. Hall had a run in them and its scary to leave shooters open after playing them so well most of the day. Thankfully they missed. We played our best basketball of the season the final 10:00 of the 1st half and 1st 5:00 of the second. A few things:

PGIV - knocked down good looks and seemed to be moving the best he has in about a month. He was disruptive defensively. Needs to string some together if he is feeling better.

DLo - what can you say. Really liked everything he did today. He actually missed some good looks that would have pushed him 30+

Dom - Just HAS to stay on the floor for us late. NBA ceiling. Loved the shove.

Branch - thought Lav did a nice job balancing his minutes with Phil showing up as a threat. Tremendous defensively while trying to find his floor game. That take at the end was elite even though it didnt drop. Another guy that has to be on the floor late to get to the rim. That is non-negotiable.

Karr - another what can you say with the mid-range. He gets that 1st step going to the rim more explosive another year and we can waive goodbye.

CO - Lots good some not so good. Complete offensive liability if he's not near the rim when a shot goes up to get us a second chance. Hate him setting and defending ball screens. That said, he can completely change everything with one swat. I also liked the way he fought back late

Amir - gave us good minutes early with his effort. He reads the zone so well but its hard for him without confidence in that jumper. Has to develop it in between starts this summer

Felix - Still miles ahead of where I thought he'd be. Much better pace and match-ups for him vs the Blue Demons

Orlando - I wish... sat behind the guys

Harrison is shooting .429 from the field. Sampson is shooting .453, both including today.

As a freshmen, Harrison shot .375 from the field. Granted a forward should have a higher shooting percentage, but I don't see Sampson hoisting as many ill advised shots from never never land as harrison.

All in all, EXCEPT for the stretch where we gave up the big lead, Harrison played a much more under control game. I think in the period that we lost the big lead, he forced the issue time after time. Without that stretch I'd have given him an A+ for the afternoon, but the period where he went a little out of control dragged his overall game to a High B or low B+. Nice game overall but Harrison played exceptionally well except for the bad stretch.

How many were bad shots. I recall one that was a borderline 3 but it was late in the clock so no issue there. The other was the first shot out of the half he rushed it. Its not like they are train wrecks. Couple went in and out there in the 2nd half. I have no problem if him and Dee are the ones who finish with most attempts. They are our best and should.

Im right with you moose, I can count on one hand the number of shots I didnt like from Dee this year. Jakarr needs to learn how to run the break better, give it up and youll get it back, dont just pull up every time.

They are beating the teams, for the most part, they need to beat with a tough stretch coming up.

Based on what I thought before the season, with Sanchez, they are just three games off the pace I thought that could get them to a best-case scenario of 20 before the BE tourney. I don't know if they can get there, but they are certainly playing their way to a top 8 seed for the BE tourney.

Actually my post was recounting the two bad shots I recall Karr taking today.

Would have liked to see Jakarr down low more in the second half; the Hall took away his shot around the foul line. It probably wouldn't have hurt to move Obekpa to the foul line and have Sampson move around down low. Going to have to try this against the Cuse, similar to what Nova did against them yesterday.

True.

But then you leave yourself open to Opekpa handling the ball and susceptible to being picked and Karr might have gotten into foul trouble earlier trying to handle a bigger Teague.

What makes for great sports arguments is not everyone sees the game the same way even when watching live. I thought that as we gave the lead away, there were at least 3-4 shots by DeAngelo that were not very good selections, like one long three attempt from the left side of the key with plenty of time left on the clock, us needing only a high pct two to stop the bleeding, and no one under the boards.

The worst part of these shots, admittedly, is that there was usually one front line person or less under the boards, making it a do or die shot.

I am just glad they came back and didnt let the game slip away. It is nice to see some wins

You last sentence is the case all year. We have 4 along the perimeter and one guy swamped down low. Maddening at times. When the shots aren't falling of course like our stretch in the 2nd.
