How can you work at being slow?

You either have foot speed, or you don't. That doesn't change.
I’m sure there is exercises to increase one’s lateral quickness. And if I was getting paid what these boxes get I would be working at it all the time with my own personal trainer out of my own pocket.
These are not student athletes they’re employees of SJU,three back doors. This system is a mess. And needs to be rethought about.

Boxes - bozos who will not run back after a made basket.

He will get kids because they have money to spend. This will blow over in a week. This is the way it is in our society. Do you remember the last mass shooting?
I’m not justifying are even in disagreement to him being held accountable. But so should the players getting paid more money in a year then I have ever earned in a single year. So when he says you’re slow. Work at it you are a paid employee.
Yes but a lot of teams have money to spend so that means this behavior will mean some (many?)guys we want will go elsewhere to play for a coach who demonstrates leadership and character. (our guy does not)

You can't do too much about foot speed. It can be improved, but likely not by leaps and bounds. (I'm thinking of some of the football rope/ladders drills or cone drills.) But, what you can do is make sure that you are not out of position and anticipate what the offense is going to do. We have had plenty of players of the years who did not have great quickness who did not hurt us on the defensive side of the court.

At this point, I think every team knows to just hit us in the mouth and we’ll fold. They haven’t been the same team since first Seton Hall game and the UConn game at MSG really killed them. I mean, they’re done. Even if they’re beating Georgetown or DePaul (which is definitely in question) and Soriano poses after a dunk or someone else flashes after a three…how is anyone gonna take that seriously? They have a 20-point lead…is anyone gonna think that’s safe?
I’ve said this from early in the year that this team has no balls!!

He is a hall of fame coach. Click bait. Will be forgotten in a week.

Joe Lapchick takes a player into his office, one on one, man to man, and constructively criticizes him.

I had a boss once who publicly humiliated underlings, and everyone in the organization detested him.

I publicly stood up to him the first time he did it to me, and he calls me into his office, he starts smirking and complimented me for having the balls to do so. (Based on his reputation I thought I was going to get fired.)

It's a game for some of these A-holes. Maybe Rick was doing the same kind of thing.

I like honesty from the coach as much as anyone, but calling out player’s shortcomings is a bad look…especially by name.

These are guys that will be looking to sign professional contracts in the next few months.
Yea that is a part of this that I feel like some here are not considering.

All recruits want to hear is how you can put them in the best position possible to get to the next level. That is the ultimate goal for most of these kids, realistic or not.

I don't see how recruits are going to want to play for a guy who so willingly points out their deficiencies to everybody, and admits recruiting them was a mistake.

But hey, what do I know, talented kids are flocking to play for Danny Hurley, who I find to be one of the more unhinged coaches in the country. So maybe recruits won't care. I guess we will find out

I’m guessing you work for Dolan. I bartended in Midtown for a long time. I had a good amount of RCMH and MSG employees as customers, I’ve heard some doozies.

None in the NBA though . Don’t you think I the Pro League Coaches, Scouts , etc already know the short comings of the Players that RP mentioned or , didn’t mention .

These are 24-25 year olds . Whatever. Pro aspirations are or were , their skill level was known years ago as these players came out of HS .

Soriano , Jenkins will play pro ball somewhere and make some $$$.
I would say the Ivy guys should start with Goldman Sachs or Citicorp and start on the way up . They will earn nice money in the Business World . Less so in Turkey or Europe . Looking at the way the European players are tearing up the NBA , the foreign teams of high caliber aren’t looking at Mediocre US players , like they once did .
Maybe some of our 24 year olds play in the G league , still holding a dream that won’t end with the Rainbow and pot of gold .

Thank God it wasn't Dolan, I can't stand that guy. He's in that category. I understand Steve Jobs could be in that category and certainly DJT and George Steinbrenner fit that category. My guy was all the way back in the 1980's and in the workplace you could get away with a whole lot more.

I always had a rule if I had to correct someone, do it one-to one. These jerks went out of their way to do it publicly.

In the end, CRP saying he stood by what he said and he wanted his players to hear it and to read it, means in his book this is a good motivational tool.

This is the opposite of Looie, he'd always take the blame and after a big L would say, "I've got to coach better", a little humble pie for CRP might not be a bad thing. Start the presser by saying "tonight I was out-coached by Coach Holloway", because, he was.

They can all make money professionally. There are dozens upon dozens of leagues.

Every P6 men’s basketball coach bookmarked pitino’s comments so they can show those remarks when recruiting against pitino.

Pitino did not say anything we all did not know. Soriano and others lack quickness. Dunlop has to improve upper body strength. These weaknesses were exploited by every team we have played. Luis takes bad shots and needs to learn the game. Also self evident. Scores of posters on this site have said exact same thing. These were not nuclear secrets. Every reporter at conference knew these weaknesses. And Pitino is a bad coach because he discussed them openly?? This whole uproar is foolish.

If a kid is a baller then he should not be worried about being called out by Pitino for anything. If he’s going to come here , collect his money and dog it, then he should be worried and he shouldn’t bother coming anyway. We don’t need guys like that. If players are going to come here, give their all and actually follow what coach Pitino is going to tell them without him having to say it ten times then they have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Finally... thank you.

What did Pitino say that every Scout / opposing coach / evaluator / fan... didn't already know?

Would i have liked him to take more accountability in potentially not getting "more" out of these guys - Or - explaining why he isn't changing style of play...? Yes.

But in a way he has- he takes credit for putting this roster together a roster that isn't tough and can't defend. He said that will not make that mistake again.
