@Seton Hall, Tue., Jan. 16, 8:30p, FS-1

Prudential Center is a really bleak place to watch your team lose, especially with having to watch Gyration John and Flag Man.

That said, it would be fantastic to be there when we finally win there & to see all of their fans miserable afterwards.
Didn’t realize how outdated it has become - especially from a concessions standpoint.

Their fans were naturally going crazy when they went up 10-0. As we climbed back in, I think many of them thought they’d be in for a long night and then……..

Kudos to their students - huge turnout

Like all of us, I expected more production out of Dingle and am disappointed by the reduced scoring and minutes out of Taylor. Both seem to be struggling with adjusting to more of a supporting role with their new team. Taylor is a lot better offensive player than he is showing, as is Dingle. They both need to be a bigger part of the offense.

When we suffer a beat down & I inanely post or read the board, my Tylenol bill goes through the roof

One interesting thing that happened last night…tensions were rising between the teams and at one point Soriano was having words with a SH player. From my perspective, I couldn’t tell which player. Wusu was among the group. For those who watched on TV, who was Joel jawing at ?

At end of game, I stuck around for a minute to check out the handshake line. While Soriano and Wusu hugged, it was a quick one - unlike his post game embrace with Posh. May be nothing but found it curious given their history.

One last point, SH played very hard (we didn’t) and deserved to win…they always strike me as resenting fact that while SJ may be down (and has been for a long time), this will always be an SJ “town” and when we are good they become an afterthought…it fuels them and always has.

maybe we need something to fuel us.

So a road loss in January, with the team still squarely in ncaa picture, eliminates any hope you had for a successful season?
Not at all, hope and expectations are to different things. I will watch every game and root for them to win. I always hope they succeed. I just no longer expect them to make the tournament this year. Do I hope they do, of course, I always hope they do well. The fact is we have lost two games in row and I understand that they were both road games and road games are tough. The issue is that we didn’t even show up last night! That’s the issue. If we played well and lost a close game like UConn and Creighton that’s a different story. This team looks like it’s regressing right now and not progressing. Like Paultz said, February is too late to figure this out. If that happens we will be in the same position we are always in, BE Tournament Championship or bust. I said before the Seton Hall game that a loss could change the entire trajectory of our season. I said that because without winning either the Creighton or Seton Hall game you have now put yourself in a position where the Marquette game Saturday becomes a must win game. A game against an extremely good Marquette team. I’m not saying we can’t win the game but be in in a must win game against such a quality team like Marquette is not ideally where you wan to be. They are not going 10-0 at home in conference and if they lose Saturday that’s three loses in row and now your in a slide. The health of our players might be in question, the health of our coach might still be an issue, injuries to Ledlum and Luis , will they be 100%? Whats going on with Soriano? Whats going on with Taylor etc.? This is way I am always hopeful but no longer have any expectations.

Started with Richmond who had committed a hard foul on Joel but quickly went to Wusu at least that's what I remember seeing but I've been trying hard to forget everything I saw last night.

We are healthy. The only player missing last night was out backup shooting guard.
We have yet to play ONE game completely healthy. Plus, our HOF coach has covid and pretty obvious a few others sick as well. Like I said before we can’t catch a f’n break IMHO. When we do start catching a few hopefully come February we will be just fine.

i was hoping that after the close loss at Creighton, the Seton Hall game would have told us about the character of this team. Let’s hope it didn’t.
I put money on the Johnnies, so that tells you what I expected them to do last night. How much did Pitino's absence factor in? Let's just say it didn't help. Having said that, I hope and expect a bounce on Sat. Either way, our performance will be telling.

I’m not defending anybody physically assaulting someone unprovoked. If he went out and punched a manager on his own then there’s no place for him on my team. If that’s what happened I feel we would have heard more. An argument that gets physical with pushing and shoving is different IMO.
We gotta let this go. All of it. Rear view mirror. All in all Wusu was a solid citizen, and God knows what was said before whatever happened.

On the subject of an adult encouraging shu to act in a vulgar manner, write their President of AD if you were thereband saw it.

Taunting our fans because of Covid? The pandemic that killed millions worldwide with bodies stacked in tractor trailers at hospital. Beyond fucking stupid.

Kids will get away with what they can. The innmates ran the asylum under CMA. These same kids now are on their best behavior at their new schools and seem to be benefiting from it.

Yes, the kids take some blame for their actions last year but CMA was the biggest problem.
This is what people don’t get. I’ve played for the toughest coaches and the most player friendly coaches in my life and I knew as far as I could go with all of them.

It was common to settle things with fists in every locker room I’ve ever been in, so I’d be a hypocrite to say anything about that. 1 on 1 with no sucker punches is all you can ask. Once the fight ends, beef is over. Usually better friends after.

This is true. I’m friends with many Hall fans. They are an after-thought in NJ, forget about the NYC market generally. So yes the proverbial chip is always on the shoulder.

Sha has done a great job to have them where they are. If we had their OOC results, this board wouldn’t have been fun. The Hall fans I know what Sha fired after getting blown out on their home floor to Rutgers and the dismal OOC performance.

All that to say, it is a long Big East season. Newark has always been cryptonite and the Hall are playing better than anyone in the league right now. They needed that because with their OOC they have a huge hole to dig out of to make the dance.

At 4-3 right now in the league and with our overall record, we are in good shape. I posted after the Nova W that even at 4-4 after Marquette we are still fine.

Show up Saturday, root for the team, and trust Pitino will get us where we want.

Have a few SHU friends as well. Willard really got things back on track for that program with the Whitehead recruitment, as controversial as it was at the time. Forget the name of the assistant coach he had to hire and pay for to get Whitehead. But they have a solid, if obnoxious, fanbase. Pitino I am sure will get us there too. No way we would have let them go on that monster run last night if Pitino was coaching.

I think the last thing all parties involved want to have is a media scrutiny/public investigation on what happened.

I regret even bringing this up, but I can't believe this fan base after one loss is already forgetting about how toxic our team was last year.

I was at the game last night. It sucked. Out coached, out hustled, out toughed. But there's a reason why Anderson is getting sued by the university and it's not because Shanley is pinching pennies. Last night was almost half the games last year. We gotta move on...
Well said first lousy game of the real season when this game was basically our normally for the past how many years? It was a bad night period point blank. Jenkins taking ownership coach not giving bs excuses. But Soriano needs his but kicked a little bit. I expect a better showing on Saturday with motivation saying we drunk but we're back . Anderson didn't coach he just was a walking meme "play hard" "40 minuted of hell" "gove
Me 3 good minutes". No real coaching going on . Also remember Rick assembled this team in less than a month when it takes a year or two or three to actually recruit your guys. And look at ricks history first year is always his worst.

A couple of things. One , it was a heart wrenching loss on Saturday in Omaha . And , the team had a long flight back to NY
Presumably , Pitino and possibly Dingle , began to exhibit symptoms within a day or two of returning home .

Pitino tested positive for Covid . We don’t know about Dingle , except he’s ill. If both have Covid , it’s not unlikely others could become ill too.

Resulting in a even more depleted Team on Saturday ?

Second , after that Creighton loss , a let down isn’t that surprising . As well as , nearly every team has that yearly clunker of a game.

Hopefully , we can have a full , healthy squad on Saturday . It will be a tough contest against Marquette .

To the many that said we played well to now, I have to disagree. The dominance of the ball by Jenkins and his abundance of shots detracted from any good offensive flow in the Creighton game and seems to be getting worse. And Creighton, I believe, was a more then winnable game and is just not that good this season. As I post this they are currently down by 20 to UConn in the second half. The Johnnies played poorly against them and almost won. The last “good” game we played was against Nova. The PC game against a mediocre team that just lost its best player showed signs of defensive lapses as well as poor ball movement and all of these poor efforts culminated in the horrific showing against the Hall.

For the Johnnies to get back on track there needs to be a better offensive flow with more contributors and a much improved match up zone. Can it be done, heck yeah, if anyone can Pitino can but that may take a week or so if at all and one wonders with coaches current health if he is around to do so.
