@Seton Hall, Tue., Jan. 16, 8:30p, FS-1

Wthin the five previous posts of yours one guy said our dreams of making the tourney were over and another guy said 90% of the roster didnt try. LOL
You left out that the other 10% didn’t play?? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂, although there were definitely a few that did like Drisa and a few others.

This is what people don’t get. I’ve played for the toughest coaches and the most player friendly coaches in my life and I knew as far as I could go with all of them.

It was common to settle things with fists in every locker room I’ve ever been in, so I’d be a hypocrite to say anything about that. 1 on 1 with no sucker punches is all you can ask. Once the fight ends, beef is over. Usually better friends after.
You think Wooden, Pitino, Knight would countenance a player built like a linebacker knocking out a student manager? In the locker room? Because afterwards the two would be better friends? And it would improve team chemistry? This stuff went on only because Anderson was a travesty and players knew they could do whatever the heck they wanted to do. Including juggling and eating popcorn on the bench. And bullying staff. liked Wasu until I learned how he conducted himself. Self discipline. Wasu was 21+. Not 12 A grown man. Who should have been arrested for assault.

It’s Pitino’s fault?? Actually I think allot of our high level of being upset about this game is on Pitino. Had he said that we are going to build a program and it may take time, I think we all wouldn’t be so disappointed. But when he made the statement…” ITS GONNA HAPPEN, AND ITS GONNA HAPPEN FAST” everyone’s expectation went sky high. Of course I know he meant well but that puts allot of pressure on allot if people, mostly on himself and even the fans.🤪

I’ve been around team/school for long time. Heard lots of things about Wusu. Kid is not the kid u want starting a program with whether Pitino was allowed to keep him or not. Regardless just going by the court. He is a garbage man who can shoot u in & out of a game. U can keep him, Alexander & Storr. Remember Pitino was brought in to bring in BOTH quality players and human beings.

They got beat every way possible. To a team that has less talent. Shows what a difference focused effort can do.
Hopefully they learn from this and play with more heart. This might have been the best thing that could have happened to the team. Time will tell.

I see some discussing Hall as Final Four candidate. Metrics show Hall is not as good as they currently look IMO. Don’t get me wrong good team but I expect them to finish 4th or 5th. Their fans think they’re UConn now. Still feel like they come back to earth a bit. Still early.

It's the blessed right of fans to dream big when your team is going well. God knows, in those moments following a 4-1 conference start, our fans got a healthy dose of pure elation. I hate rude fans, but bragging rights, even temporary goes to them right now.

That feeling of elation is the drug that sustains us as fans, even though the withdrawal pains of losing nearly kill us.

True good points. All I know is we’re at crossroads. Heartbreaker L in Omaha & total no show in Newark. 2 straight. Marquette game will likely tell us if it’s same old SJ fading to wrong side of bubble or new SJ picking ourselves back up & looking refreshed.

Have a few SHU friends as well. Willard really got things back on track for that program with the Whitehead recruitment, as controversial as it was at the time. Forget the name of the assistant coach he had to hire and pay for to get Whitehead. But they have a solid, if obnoxious, fanbase. Pitino I am sure will get us there too. No way we would have let them go on that monster run last night if Pitino was coaching."
"Tiny Morton" was the coach's name. Whitehead is now an over-seas baller washout. The whole Morton thing was unethical and that was their peek. SHU is on "a high" but people forget that there is a law of gravity in basketball. They have always been a tough out at home but will fade fast just wait and see. Pitno will have the team ready for a late season surge not concerned.

For perspective, after beating uconn, Seton Hall went to cincinnati and lost to Xavier by 20. They then beat providence on the road and marquette at home.

SJU just lost to seton hall by 15 on the road. This one loss (a quad 1 game) is not the end of the world and doesn't mean the team that beat providence, X, Butler, @nova, and lost close games @uconn and @creighton is no longer good. Do need pitino back though--no replacement for him obviously.

We also lost without Pitino!

I'm not a Mas fan. I think he's an elite assistant coach. I'm happy he's here. But his Manhattan years were very subpar. I stand by my point in a prior thread that hiring him after Pitino would be the biggest "mom and pop" operation move we could possibly do.

But I do sympathize that this was a very discombobulating week & game day between Pitino testing negative then positive/missing practices, Dingle out at the last moment, etc.

One we just hired Rick and your already thinking who is next? Second Steve masiello did goto 2 ncaas tournys with manhattan . Was offered south Florida but rescinded cause of a resume issue . I'm not thinking whose next years away anything can happen . But is mas a great assistant and recruiter of our hall of fame coach thinks so then so do I.

It was part of another thread. I wish we can sign CRP to a five year extension already. I agree with your comment I bolded.

Re WuSu, obviously played well v us last game. I believe Holloway, who demands toughness and values the little things Dylan can do, will get more out of him than Anderson did. I’ll leave it that & not mourning his loss.
Exactly. And they have no choice to play him because of the thin bench. Again, context matters and the whole season matters. If we had Seton Hall’s OOC results there would have been a riot before the first BE game. There is a reason their metrics are so poor. To Sha’s credit, he has done a great job “righting the ship” with this group in conference play. They essentially rely on 5 guys - the big kid off the bench who hurt us has done nothing to date - but those 5 guys have been very good as a unit in conference play. And Richmond, who always had big time talent, looks like the light bulb finally turned on. They’ve avoided injury to anyone in that starting 5 so far and been fortunate in that respect compared to other BE teams. All the credit to them and Sha for turning around their season, but the reason they have a massive hole to climb from is because the team that performed in the OOC is the one picked to finish 9th in the league. We will see if their good play and good fortune continues.

They remind me of the providence team from a couple of years ago. That team one a ton of tight games and piled up wins. I never thought they were elite (although they were very good), but they played well together and were tough as nails.

If Soriano had Zuby's athletic ability he would be an NBA player. Unfortunately, that is something you are born with. Zuby needs to work on his defense and shooting and he will get major minutes next season.

One interesting thing that happened last night…tensions were rising between the teams and at one point Soriano was having words with a SH player. From my perspective, I couldn’t tell which player. Wusu was among the group. For those who watched on TV, who was Joel jawing at ?

At end of game, I stuck around for a minute to check out the handshake line. While Soriano and Wusu hugged, it was a quick one - unlike his post game embrace with Posh. May be nothing but found it curious given their history.

One last point, SH played very hard (we didn’t) and deserved to win…they always strike me as resenting fact that while SJ may be down (and has been for a long time), this will always be an SJ “town” and when we are good they become an afterthought…it fuels them and always has.

maybe we need something to fuel us.
Joel generally talks a lot of words to begin with.
