Sacred Heart, Wed., Dec. 6, 7p, CBSSN

How is your cocker spaniel doing since Jenkins ran it over with his car before the season started?

That is the only reason I can think of for the deep dislike of one player right from the opening season tip.
More of a bulldog guy than cocker spaniel.

Jenkins entered the game shooting 38% from the field and 27.3% from deep. He was 0-6 in his last 3 games and 4-22 since Stony Brook.

All the criticisms of him are that he plays too selfish and doesn’t even give his better scoring teammates a chance on too many possessions.

He responded by shooting 3-10 in the first half against the 276th ranked team in the country. TEN shots in a half from a guy with those shooting %s is absolutely insane…even worse when Soriano and Dingle aren’t missing good looks.

I’ll stop complaining when Dingle gets 20 shots. Until then, Jenkins is one of the most frustrating players to ever put on a St. John’s uniform to me. He shooting 18% against everyone besides Stony Brook and Sacred Heart.

Oh, and 0 FTs last night for the 5th time this season.

Marillac, “this guy is not coming through that door”

Jenkins clearly one of our best 5. However he has taken 20 more shots then everyone else and shooting a lower % than Dingle and Soriano.
It’s one thing to be a shoot first point guard if you are clearly the best scoring option on team like a Marbury or Iverson. It is another when you are the third best option.

Fair. But of Jenkins 97 FG attempts... 50% were in the 3 Charleston games alone.

Well that was exactly what I wanted out of that game. A blowout to help our metrics, Soriano/Dingle/Jenkins looked right and the freshman got enough time to play thru a couple mistakes to make some plays and feel good. Hopefully now they don’t make us sweat too much against what looks like a tougher than originally anticipated BC.

I understand all the comments and focus on Jenkins. If he has a good season, so does St. John's. If he doesn't, there will be no dancing. The ball is in his hands more than any other player, and by a lot. His skill set is not that of a pure point guard. I'm old school, and like PGs that value the ball like it's a family heirloom and look for others first. So I expect the guy with the ball to get a lot of attention in the press and on this board. Daniss has skills, but the lack of a PG on the roster ready to contribute big minutes puts the spotlight on him. I'm rooting for him to come through, but have some doubts.

The downhill consequences of Jenkins taking 10 shots in a half are forced shots from Dingle and Alleyne. To say he has no conscience out there is an absolute understatement. He has no awareness.

When Dingle, Alleyne, or Soriano touch the ball it stresses the defense and creates better looks for everyone else.

I guarantee you the scouting report for every Big East team is to let Jenkins shoot and drive all game. He won’t draw contact or get to the FT line so what’s the damage there? He doesn’t draw doubles or help, so you can play everyone else straight up.

Alleyne gets one great look a game and it’s usually from Wilcher like last night on that beautiful drive and kick. I like Wilcher, but he was disappointing overall last night.

The last thing I’d want to see as an opposing coach would be Dingle and Soriano in the pick and roll.

No one expects Jenkins to be Mark Jackson. And no one but Marillac wants Malik Boothe.
But just need Jenkins to tone down his Iverson/ Morant act and understand that Soriano and Dingle are our best options.
The other thing that is annoying is the over dribbling so the shot clock is winding down shots

Put Jenkins on those Norm teams and how do you think it turns out?🤣

One troubling stat is that Jenkins has taken 20 more shots than anyone else on the team. He is 2nd in minutes played. Also shooting just under 40%. Despite the knocks on his selfishness, he is averaging 5.5 assists per game even though he plays under 30 minutes per game. He can pass, but I still look at him as a shoot first guard. Expediting Wilcher's learning process will help the team later in the season.

He is not playing like a four star frosh. Posh as a three star played far better. It’s not even close. I agree he has potential. Disappointing so far.
He had four assists- the same as our starting PG- and 4 boards in 16 minutes. He had two bad turnovers which btw came after he had a couple of sweet dimes...typical freshman behavior, made a few plays, started feeling himself, and got sloppy. He played fine. No idea why the overreaction by some.

On a separate note, the Posh dickriding has gotten out of control here. Gonna be fun to look back a year from now and remind people that they were comparing Wilcher to Posh F***ing Alexander.

I don’t know if selfish is the right word for me to use, because he does pass as you wrote. It’s just always under his terms…that’s what bothers me.

There have been a lot of guys I’m willing to win or lose with dominating the looks. Hatten, Hardy, and Ponds to name a few. Jenkins isn’t one. Dingle probably is.

With all that written, he didn’t bother me at all in the game yesterday. So I need to at least try to be fair.

I recorded the game and watched after seeing his 3-10 halftime stat live. That likely biased my view heading in.

The other side of my frustration with Jenkins is how much I like Dingle’s offensive game. Watching Dingle go 4-6 in a half and getting virtually no opportunities to create out of the pick and roll is unbelievably frustrating.

The crazy thing is if you move Jenkins to the 3, he’s probably one of my favorite players. This is the non-senior Dom Pointer for me.

fun game last night- ended up Ubering - easy.

Takeaways:
-Elitist comment... first time in a bit i havent sat in the seatbacks... how does anyone over 6'0 sit in those seats.... its awful- rather stand the whole game.
-10$ for Coors Light... so happy they have beer now... but cmon... double digit prices on campus. My goal is to make it out to Creighton for the 1$ beer night.
-Got the Dub - no new injuries- thats a bigger win.
