Pitino is still praising Wilcher's talent and potential...same for Brady..so he's clearly not ready to throw in towel and has expectations. So, for now that's enough for me. If he stops doing that, then we'll know Pitino has had a change of perception.

P

You can’t be serious.😂

BTW - Wilcher is a stud.
Boothe played 20 minutes for a tournament team…rebounded, played hard, and defended like a maniac. Only shot 30.4% from 3 but that’s what Jenkins is shooting.

I’d wager going forward Pitino will have a smaller lead guard on the roster at all times.

Brady will play better when Wilcher takes over next year and drives and kicks.

Two things I’ve noticed with Brady thus far are (1) that he’s not just a standstill shooter. He’s pulled up a handful of times in secondary transition.

And (2) when he makes the extra pass it’s so much more effective than when someone else does it because of the threat he presents as a shooter. The defense closes out like crazy on him.

Good comments on Brady. Like most freshmen he just needs to get stronger and work on his lateral quickness guarding on perimeter in offseason. He is a keeper for sure with great length, shooting ability and coachable it appears.

Did people really expect that Pitino would sign 5th year seniors to sit on the bench? Wilcher and Dunlap are very significant building blocks going forward and I am sure they knew that. Dunlap’s obvious committment to D tells me he gets it and Witcher is mega talented; shining with limited minutes is difficult for the vast majority of players, never mind freshman used to playing an alpha role. Just look at the game to game ups and downs of a good, very experienced player like Allyene in that role.

And it is safe to say Pitino knows a thing or two about freshmen and seeing their potential.

It is not just here of course, but the hot take judgements made over a couple of freshmen barely a month into the season is absurd (to be kind).

A coach a while ago said the best thing about freshmen is they become sophomores. Meaning, let the kids practice, learn, and (gosh darn it) improve at their pace.

I bet all of us old timers were a lot better at our jobs after a couple of years than when we first started. I know I was. Thankfully I was not judged and discarded after a month.

We live in such an instant gratification world unfortunately. Give Rick some time with these two and we’ll be very happy. He had to invest in experience in year one obviously.

I do see stretch 4 future now. AMase is likely going to have bragging rights on this issue😂

The kid is every bit of 6’7 and Gumby like arms. We just need to get him eating like some of us posters.

I loved Boothe. Great kid. Played hard. But he was a terrible shooter & finisher.

Once again, I’ll take DJ over Boothe and Posh every day. Twice on Sunday.

Again not to pummel a dead horse, all he has to understand is that the ball should go through Soriano first, then Dingle. Once he grasps that concept he will be fine. He and Ledlum should not have more shots than those 2.
Agreed, but I’m more okay with Ledlum than you seem to be. I’d like to see Ledlum adjust to the high major size and athletic ability by trying to draw more contact instead of going straight up or dishing it at the rim.

I want Ledlum consistently at 10-12 ppg, and I’d really like to see him do some damage as a passer. Hi-low with Joel…and kickoff to shooters. 3-4 assists per game waiting for him.

The Portal has created a whole new dynamic in College BB. Especially as it relates to incoming Freshman , 4-5 Star or not.

Our team , as RP, had to fill a near total roster , plugged into 5 seniors . 4 of whom are starters .
Along with another Senior , Soriano .

These are 4 Year players who are now 23-24 or 25 years old . Difficult , if not impossible to have. 18-19 year olds to break into that line up .

RP is doing it right . Giving Wilcher and Dunlap spots to play in but , not forcing them to be the focal piece . Their time will increase as RP determines and I think both , Dunlap and Wilcher understand the plans for them . As well as their Parents . Which is no small accomplishment

Both , will be key pieces in next years team and beyond .

As for Jenkins and the criticism he’s receiving from some fans here , not 1 word from RP as to criticizing how Daniss is playing. Jenkins was given the ball by Rick and it’s doubtful it’s taken out of his hands all season .

I think he's also very aware that he has to develop his game beyond an outside shot. When I spoke to him at media day this year he said the two things he worked on/actively working on was putting weight on and finding different ways to contribute. I think too many fans in college basketball fall into the trap of expecting freshmen to be these instant stars, especially in this new rankings and NIL era. The learning curve is so great making the jump for high end high school to D1 basketball...from the speed to the physicality to the classroom and court balance. Staff have to balance giving him minutes and real live reps to get that necessary experience and at the same time put the best guys on the court

Sitting behind the bench in Charleston and getting a good look at these kids up close I was shocked at how skinny Brady is.

I'll caveat this by saying I love the kid's potential and I get that there are a million different body types. I've wanted a kid like him at SJU forever. Eventually he'll be fine. But he's not wiry skinny. He's like 15 year old kid who just grew six inches/ zero muscle tone skinny. In this day and age, with all the athletic training available to high level athletes, especially one with his family's resources and a dad who's a coach, that's just incomprehensible. It's a shame because it will keep him off the court this year at times when we could use him.

Much like Wusu he does not elevate on his drives to the hoop for some reason. Unless he dunks.
He actually might have worse % on layups than Wusu did.
I have no problem with him shooting open jumpers. And he rebounds.

I feel similarly about your post. We have a starting five that has to play well enough to get into the tournament. That then has to be supplemented by the bench. It would be great if a couple of the bench players distinguished themselves and many an I feel Luis had the most potential. Even so you can make the NCAA tournament with a solid starting 5 and a few functional pieces. Allenye is solid and the rest are trying to figure it out and like some have said the rotation will tighten.

He does look like that but I am sure it's not for a lack of trying. Hopefully other the next couple of years he will get stronger but I think that will be his body type for a while. I think working on his skills is the most important thing for him right now.

I really like that pitino is getting wilcher and dunlap some time in these blowouts, and not just for next year. They're probably 9/10 in the rotation (behind alleyne, luis, and zuby), but there will be games in league play where someone is banged up or in foul trouble and they will get important minutes.
