Rysheed Jordan

He should be annoyed about losing minutes. That's what any coach expects when they bench a player who is not performing up to their level.

It is now up to the player to respond the right way by working hard and improving his play. This is normal stuff for any program in any sport.

exactly. .. but the Lavin haters need to find something to bitch about aside from what he wears, since the team is playing well.
Defensive much? I actually agree with you that this is much ado about nothing which is why I haven't even offered an opinion but if all these posters want to discuss it I am for letting them and most or nearly all have done it without criticizing Lavin which I know is verboten in your world.

So speculating that Lavin is possibly doing this on purpose in order to retard Jordan's progress and growth so that he is forced to return next year and attacking his character isn't criticism? What is that referred to in your world?
Again you and your counterparts have nothing to attack Lavin about so far this year, so you all will just start grasping at anything. It's pathetic. The team is actually well coached so far this year and are running smart plays. We won't credit Lavin for any of that though. Well just attack him for what he chooses to wear and how he is allegedly having Jordan come off the bench because he wants him to come back next year cuz all Lavin is is a self serving POS.... have at it. I'm gunna enjoy all the crow you people will eat throughout the year that was allegedly lost when Keith Thomas was declared ineligible. How's that worked out so far for us and our rebounding?

Not too defensive of a response. Keep up the friendly banter. As I said I don't care about this topic so I will let you get all bent out of shape.

It's very frustrating how we can't discuss anything anymore without being berated or accused of hating on Lavin.

Give it a rest. This is just a discussion. Some of Lavins biggest critics have praised the way he has handled the Jordan situation. R-E-L-A-X.

First of all, I'm quite relaxed. Secondly tell me one thing that I've posted which is not factual of what has been said about Lavin on these message boards over the last 24 hours.
I think it's very frustrating how things can't be discussed without taking a pot shot at Lavin. He's running the team great. It must be killing the Lavin haters that the team isn't tanking this year... so much so that they have to make crap up about him trying to actually bench Jordan in hopes that he will return next year...Why can't people just enjoy the fact that we are ranked and having a great year. Why try to find any little possible thing to be negative about? If what I'm saying doesn't apply to you, then let it fly.. however these are things I've read on the board over the last 24 hours, so I decided to say something about it.

I don't see anything on this thread that takes pot shots at Lavin. People are enjoying the season but it doesn't mean Lavin is now immune to criticism. With that being said, again, I haven't seen any on this thread which is why your posts confuse me.

The team is playing well right now, believe me we are all happy, so don't look for Lavin hate posts in a thread where there really are none.

Seems like you're simply fishing for a reason to defend/praise the coach because no one has criticized him for the benching.

In fact, most of the criticism has been directed at the player.

But, enjoy your soapbox.

off the top of my head cuz I don't feel like looking back in the thread, I know both fun and mean gene brought up Lavin playing games with Jordan...

you may want to read the thread again. As I stated to JW, right off the top of my head I know that Gene and Fun said something in regards to Lavin "playing games" with Jordan.

Mean Gene asked if anyone close to the program knew if that was a possibility. He brought it up as a question but didn't assume anything. so if fun is the only post that backs your argument. Well...

If you guys cannot stay on topic and stop hijacking, this thread will be locked permanently.

I hear you, and apologize.

Back to the topic, I was reading JJ's thread on this very topic and someone brought up a good point. We have to very careful that this benching doesn't take away Jordan's aggressiveness. Turnovers are something I'd live with if it means he continues to play aggressive.

The example drawn over there was trying to convert RG3 from a scrambling QB to a pocket QB. Hopefully he just plays more aggressive but cuts down on TOs somewhat. You don't want him getting complacent because of this, the FDU game was a very good start for him, he looked good.

Also, I think the play he made against Syracuse is very underrated. I've rewatched the game a few times, and the pass he made when the game was tied to Greene was almost as clutch as the shot. He sucked in defense by driving to the paint and kicked it out perfectly. Great play, I hope to see more of it.

c'mon... the mere fact he brought it up shows he thinks it. . However back on topic per Ohio Fan...
I like Sheed as the sixth man right now. . Don't fix what's not broken. If we start losing, then maybe shake up the rotation

Three times. I appear. Like Barbara Eden, nearly.

Listen. It's clear that something's up between Jordan and Lavin. It started the middle of last year, when Jordan (presumably) was thinking about going back to Philadelphia and Lavin said (presumably) okay fine and activated Balamou, theretofore a redshirt. That something-is-up has continued into this year: Jordan cannot talk to the press; Jordan no longer starts - Balamou started the second half over Jordan two games ago and then a walk-on the half after that and now Branch, who brings nothing to the table. Because that something-is-up is clear, the question becomes - and the answer is largely semantic - what is up and why. Lavin's defenders argue that he does what he does improve the life prospect of his charges: Lavin himself says there are more important things than winning and that what he does is "teaching." Lavin's detractors - and I'm one, although I don't hate Lavin, that's absurd, I just think he's awful - wonder why it is that there's so much teaching that has to go on: Harrison, Obekpa, Nurideen Lindsey, Sean Evans, and now Jordan. There's been as much drama in this program over the past five years than I can remember - besides maybe Jarvis's team of felons - and I can remember pretty good going back pretty far. Certainly it might be innocuous: it may be that Lavin is sincere and pure of heart and that he's thinks he's doing what's best for his players. It could be that Lavin recruits kids who have emotional or character issues and that some of them need corrective therapy. Or it may be, just maybe, that like every other human being on the planet Lavin himself has needs and neurosis that affect his interpersonal relationships and that some of that maladaptation surfaces in his relationships with his players. The latter explains a lot: his defensiveness, his excuses, his circumlocution, his obfuscation. Now, you don't have to believe that. Maybe, as Merlin said of the questing beast, it's too much of Freud. But everyone - everyone - is toxic to one degree or another, except the saints, and Lavin isn't one of those.

This isn't something be too alarmed about. We'll keep an eye on this as the season progresses but I'm hoping it is Lavin sending a message that the turnovers need to stop.

Sheed was much more under control last night. Hopefully Lavins message is working like it seemed to last night and rysheed continues to play well. He will find his way in the starting lineup soon enough if he does.

Jordan seemed cautious against F.D. I don't know if I want him under control. He'll make the passes unlike Branch.

They were well after the game. It happens after each game where mostly PGIV, DLo, and Sheed retweet all of the compliments they get. Sheed usually retweets a bunch of compliments and last night just retweeting those two was definitely alarming for me. It seems like he's upset with his playing time right now.

He didn't play well the prior two games. He played well last night. Hopefully he is rewarded with a start and a bunch of minutes this weekend.

But why fix something that isn't broken. Has anyone in the starting 5 played themselves out of a spot?

*You could say Branch but honestly I just feel more at ease with him in the game.

No player deserves to play just to be kept happy, but damn I'm worried about how hard rysheed is gonna play coming off the bench. Sure he's been playing hard, but he probably thinks this is temporary.

I'd much rather Sheed start. He's so talented and he will be kept happy. If he comes out and doesn't play well at beginning of games, then bring branch in for an extended amount of time.

This season has gone so well so far, I just don't want unessecary drama. Then again who know how rysheed is acting behind the scenes.

The best players are those who play the best, not those with the most potential. He's played himself out of minutes, and now its up to him to get his minutes back. He will not have to earn them slowly, but for anyone to be on the court, they must play well. Good message from Lavin.

The only problem with that is his replacement has been terrible and is still on the court.

Again, we're winning so how is this an issue? When it all is on the line come March this kid will be on the court when it matters.

Tom, you have some explaining to do I think..

WOW. If true need to pray Branch doesn't get hurt. There has to be more to this we don't know about, regardless of who is to blame. I can't see him transferring solely because Branch is getting a few starts now.

This program cannot catch a break. Just unbelievable.
