Rysheed Jordan

They were well after the game. It happens after each game where mostly PGIV, DLo, and Sheed retweet all of the compliments they get. Sheed usually retweets a bunch of compliments and last night just retweeting those two was definitely alarming for me. It seems like he's upset with his playing time right now.

He didn't play well the prior two games. He played well last night. Hopefully he is rewarded with a start and a bunch of minutes this weekend.

But why fix something that isn't broken. Has anyone in the starting 5 played themselves out of a spot?

*You could say Branch but honestly I just feel more at ease with him in the game.

No player deserves to play just to be kept happy, but damn I'm worried about how hard rysheed is gonna play coming off the bench. Sure he's been playing hard, but he probably thinks this is temporary.

I'd much rather Sheed start. He's so talented and he will be kept happy. If he comes out and doesn't play well at beginning of games, then bring branch in for an extended amount of time.

This season has gone so well so far, I just don't want unessecary drama. Then again who know how rysheed is acting behind the scenes.

Unless he had his phone while sitting on the bench, then it wasn't him that actually retweeted it. It was retweeted moments after the original tweet.
My concern is this though. Rysheed doesn't follow either of those 2 tweeters. Secondly his twitter name wasn't tagged in either post. So I guess whoever did retweet it while having his phone had to have done a search specifically using his name.

When the retweet came up on my feed, it was a good 2 hours after the game. DLo and Phil always retweet compliments themselves after the game, it makes me wonder if it actually was sheed

Hmmm.. I was going by the time stamp and it would coincide with when the game was on. However I trust you about when it appeared on your feed. Still, Sheed doesn't follow either of those tweeters and neither of them used his twitter name. Do you think he is gunna do a search of his own name after the game? Maybe, I don't know.

Those tweets are certainly not confidence-inspiring, partly because we've been trained to expect the worst when it comes to any sort of even mildly controversial situation, and because this is a kid who has had some ups and downs before.

But for what it's worth Sheed seemed very engaged in the huddles in the 2nd half last night. He celebrated as hard as anyone in the moments right after the Cuse win. This is more tea leaves type stuff, but his outward demeanor at our games has not seemed disgruntled since he's been coming off the bench.

With that said I'd like to see Rysheed start. I've been as big a supporter of Branch as anybody, and am also very realistic about Rysheed's uneven play so far this year. Just feel like he is the kind of kid that is going to respond to starting. And if we can get him going the way he was in February last year, with the way Dee and Phil are playing right now, my goodness. I understand not catering to anyone, and I understand keepin what's working going right now, but big picture I think we'll benefit from a constant starting 5 with Rysheed in it.

Good points, I agree completely.

Unless there are other issues behind the scenes, I agree totally.

Despite the turnovers the prior two games, I actually like Jordan getting over 30 minutes a game. He's better on D than Branch. With Pointer, Obekpa and Jordan, that's three guys that are a menace on defense. I think that's going to be the key to success this season. This team clearly has top 25 type of defense. The offense will up and down. I'm willing to take a couple of extra turnovers early from Jordan for him to learn on the job. Hopefully last night's very efficient game is a sign of things to come for the rest of the season.

We're splitting hairs in this instance as Jordan still played over twenty minutes last night. However I'd rather it trend towards him getting more minutes rather than less minutes.

I believe that if we are really going to have a good run this year, there is a higher probability of that happening with Jordan being on the floor for over 30 minutes a game. He's gotta learn, he's gotta get better. But I'm willing to take some lumps now in December for better long terms results in Jan through March.

I'm in the boat of keeping Sheed coming off the bench for now.

Those retweets were primadonna-ish. Not to punish him, but cutting him from the starting lineup has seemed to be the only thing that has gotten his attention.

Branch's starting minutes are token minutes. Branch is doing nothing with them nor has he done anything to earn them.

Sheed started this season exactly like how Jakarr started last season.

I rarely compliment Lavin.

But I think his best move so far this year has been to reel in Rysheed's ego and relegate him to the bench.

Does anyone on this board who is close to the program think that Lavin is playing games with this kid and his playing time in order to keep him from leaving after this year?

I'm not close to the program. I'm also not a fan of Lavin, but I do not think that Lavin is playing games to keep Jordan out of the NBA. There is clearly something going on here, though. It started last year and the fact that Jordan has not been permitted to speak to the media at this point in his college career speaks volumes.

Agree. Lavin seems to do what he can to help his guys reach the next level, not prevent them from getting there.

Something odd going on. I hope they work it out because Sheed has huge upside if he can get his head around what this team is trying to build.

The best players are those who play the best, not those with the most potential. He's played himself out of minutes, and now its up to him to get his minutes back. He will not have to earn them slowly, but for anyone to be on the court, they must play well. Good message from Lavin.

Fair points. I suppose it's difficult to fully assess on either side without knowing exactly what the situation is, if any. With the exception of those retweets, everything seems to be going fine as is for the time being which is most important.

I just hope this is building to a point of getting Sheed to where the staff wants him to be and then having him be a constant in terms of the lineup and his production, the same way a Harrison or Obekpa are. Don't think we have the breathing room to have this be a season of ups and downs, ins and outs of the lineup for him the way Harrison's and Obekpa's respective sophomore seasons were.

No

Playing games can also speed up his departure.

I would highly doubt that Lavin is playing games with him to keep him out of the league. This is pretty much a make or break year for Lavin. Even though he has another year left, he is in a must-win now mode, and can't really afford to be playing mind games.

And Jordan's draft status is not going to change based on playing time. Scouts will know and see enough of him to make their decision.....

Some of the things I see posted here are laughable.

He is young, competitive and he's good...of course he wants to start. Who wouldn't ?

He's gonna dog it because he's not starting? He wants to play in the NBA, so I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume he's never gonna dog it.

Lavin would purposely bench him to keep him on the team? That's insane.

Him not being permitted to speak to the media has nothing to do with punishment or holding him back. I think I know why he's doing that.

That being said, there's a balance between trying to showcase your game to reach the next level and helping the team win. As the PG, Sheed has turned the ball over at an alarming clip while trying selfishly force the issue.

Coach let Jakarr force it last year.

We are playing as cohesively as we have been since the Hardy year. Why screw it all up because one player wants to impress people?

Harrison has more to lose than anybody because he's a Sr and won't get another crack at this. And he's playing as efficiently as he has ever played.

Sheed needs a reality check.

I did not see last nights game but I don't think Jordan has played nearly well enough to be a lock to start or play X amount of minutes. He has ability for sure, but for whatever reasons his play at SJU has been uneven to say the least. Does our best team potentially have Jordan getting major minutes? Yes but let's not forget one could make an argument that our season lsat year was sabotaged / at least negatively impacted by Sampson playing for a contract, maybe Lavin is trying to prevent that from happening again.
