Rysheed Jordan

If the best player that Lavin ever recruited transfers after four games, that is a reflection on Lavin and the program will continue to spiral down.
Some of the crap that comes out of peoples mouths is incredible. Is he the best player.....I've seen 4 games games and to be honest he hasn't wowed me. He may have been a star in HS but this the Big East. If he transfers it would be a shame no see his "potential" but to say the program that has gotten more press and hype in recent years to be classified as in a downward spiral is ridiculous!. Joe......is that you?

Sorry plandome4 but Andrew2 is 100% correct IMHO.
Rysheed is clearly the highest rated recruit Lavin has brought to SJU.
Our play this year to date has been poor. There has not been 1 poster who has posted that we have played 1 good game. Some of you are thrilled that we beat Bucknell and Monmouth. As a 30 plus year fan of the program all I can say is it is shocking how our standards have dropped. I refrain from posting as I have nothing positive to say. Bucknell, Monmouth, Wagner, these are teams we should beat by 25 plus points, no ands ifs or buts. We are a very deep, talented and experienced team. Certainly the deepest and perhaps most talented since 1985.
If Rysheed leaves, and I have zero knowledge one way or another if he will, coupled with our poor play to date, opposing coaches will have a field day talking crap to prospective recruits. I applaud Coach Lavin for disciplining Rysheed and pray that Rysheed does not bolt as it would be a serious black eye for the program.

He's not the best player Lavin has ever recruited, either at UCLA or St. John's

From a few weeks ago for your reading pleasure:
Please note the Lavin quote: "He is the best player I have ever coached, and that includes Baron Davis".

BTW, we all pull for the program....not the coach. But there is coach-speak and there is poppycock.

You might've refrained from posting, but you've been saying more without talking, if you know what I mean. It's all good, though.

I doubt anyone is "thrilled" that we beat Monmouth. It's been stated by several that our play wasn't particularly satisfactory. We got the win; can regroup; and, go from there.

I'm one who feels if you think we should just slaughter Bucknell, then you should be upset with yourself. I have a feeling Bucknell would be able to hold their own with many top-tier teams throughout the country. You may think I'm just talking for the heck of it, but I was never worried about us losing any of those games we've played in the past week.

But if some of you are gonna continue to pound your head against the wall from game-to-game, then go ahead. I've been watching sports long enough that how you play one month (or, even two months) doesn't necessarily mean how you'll play throughout the duration.

Don't know the validity of this, but i know someone who is close to a player on the team. I asked the person if they knew whats going on with Jordan. They said he hasn't been in class and we could be seeing a transfer. Just felt i should share with the board.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's gone.

A great post I agree wholeheartedly with. I'm still flabbergasted as to why people (St. John's fans, especially) aren't allowed to think what they want.
Sorry Dinkins, I usually agree with most of your posts and I frankly don't care if you lump me in with the rest of the "schmucks" but you're being pretty condescending here.
Funny enough. I didn't even go to this school. I've been a fan since I was 8, not coincidently 1985, so I have rooted hard for this team since I was in 2nd freaking grade and if I think that these suspensions (again I'm not even making any kind of generalization of what they're about or even about who's right and who's wrong) are getting frustrating or that our level of play last night was borderline atrocious, then I am certainly allowed to express that, especially on a board where I would think people would be as passionate about it as I am.

I'm not an "in-the-know" guy, I've never pretended to be one, so I keep most of my posts in-season because I love this team whether we have mike freaking Jarvis as our coach or Steve Lavin. And, ftr, I like Lavin.

I wish some of you would just come out and say that you don't particularly care for Lavin, and then all of the other indirect crap can cease. It's cool! You don't have to be fond of the coach, and continue to root for the program. I'm already sure who are the culprits, per their posts and 'thank you's,' in regards to certain posts.

Please spare the board with the BS about you're still behind Lavin, but.... I know poppycock when I hear it.

MJ everyone likes Coach Lavin and wants him to succeed in a major way, everyone, and to think otherwise is just not fair and blatantly incorrect.
He has raised the profile of the program in many a way and we are all thrilled with his vision for the program.
We are all fans and fans all have opinions and the right to voice them. On this board I must say that as of late the posters have conducted themselves in exemplary fashion. The worst transgression I have read of late is your use of the word " shmucks " and I can only assume you don't know what it means because if you did you would refrain from using the term on a message board.

Now some of us believe that a very experienced and talented team, the core of which has been together for 2.5 years, which won 16 games last season before its best player got suspended, is fully healthy, added the 3rd best pg, a knock down 3 point shooter, a solid back up center and a multi skilled 6 9 4/5 should be having a much easier time of our games than we have had to date.
If you don't see cause for concern g-d bless you and I hope you are correct and myself and those in the concerned camp are wrong. I want to be dead wrong in my assessment of the team to date. But please do not say that I or others do not like the coach as that is patently false.

I am sure the Chargers felt the same as you when they drafted Ryan Leaf. :woohoo:

Honestly.... Do you think everyone on here likes Lavin as the coach?

I, definitely know what the word "schmuck" means or I wouldn't have said it. If you don't think there aren't any on this board, then it's your prerogative. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

My point is about some posters bitching and moaning after every game. Not to mention, the handful of posters with double-standards. Like I said, if you think differently, then that is your right. I have an opinion just like you do. I'm not offended, nonetheless.

You are correct when you say "the program .... has gotten more press and hype in recent years.."
However, hype goes only so far with consumers. If you are asked to pay premium $$ for a product that keeps getting recalled for retooling, I would not call that progress or good customer relations. It is very early in the season and hopefully the results start to equal the hype we have been given but thus far we have come close to losing to a D2 at home (I was there to witness it in disbelief) and have played mediocre uninspired ball against very weak opponents. I began to worry in August when we were blown out of the gym by a second division French pro team. Same thing happened in Spain, but by a smaller margin. I equated those teams to top 10 caliber NCAA teams and I began to worry we could not compete at the highest level of college ball with these players.
When a D2 team and three lower level D1 teams play you basically even at home something is wrong.
I just want it fixed sooner rather than later because old age is making me grumpier every year.

Dink, most fans, you included, have never met Lavin on a personal basis. I have and he is a very nice guy and pleasant. That said, we still hold him accountable for his job performance and that is what fans have been critiquing here. If you lived here in NYC you would see the billboards and signs in Times Square proclaiming SJ as New York City's team. Many of us have friends and colleagues that are not SJ fans but are UConn, Syracuse or ACC/Big Ten fans. It has been difficult to refute their ribbing every year we have failed to meet our own hype. The European trip mediocrity, the near losses to lower tier teams and the quality of play have disappointed to most ardent homers. Add to this the total lack of buzz from recruits, the Jordan issue (after being the most hyped player in years) and you get the picture of fans having to keep making excuses for our program to outsiders.
You are right to say it is very early in the season but the redmen are restless and we want some scalps! :)

Good try (or bait), nonetheless.

My apologies if you did not fall into that category. I forgot you attended the Charleston Classic. But I am sure the $16 drinks in NYC that Lavin accepts cost around $8 in SC. LOL!

I have been watching St John's basketball since I was 8 or 9 as well and am not an alumni either. That was back in the late 70's. The regular season win in 85 over Georgetown was one of my favorite sports memories along with the Mets World Series victory in 1986.(I am still waiting for a special Jets moment but I still love the team). I am just frustrated and probably fooled myself into thinking this year would be different. I have gone through a lot this past year and watching the games is one of the few things that gives me something positive to look forward to. I like watching the U.S. national soccer team play as well but 0-0 draws with Scotland leave me with some of the same frustrations. Steve Lavin seems like a good guy and I wish him well but at some point you have to put your money where your mouth is.
