Rysheed Jordan

I agree with whoever said that...MJ I think? We are SJ...our specialty is basketball...it's what we eat, sleep, and breathe. We have the history, the NYC stage, the great staff, NBA success stories, the media coverage, etc. While I respect Temple and Rutgers, they are 2 schools we should be able to sway big recruits from. Rutgers is far and away a football school...their basketball team has been more like a mid-major for a while now. Temple is going through a major transition to the BE, and they have a solid program but I think we should be able to edge them out. I think expecting otherwise is to undercut our program.

It's not about whether or not we can edge them out. He's from Philly, if he wants to stay home we're not on a level playing field.

If the kid was from Iowa and was considering only Temple and St Johns you would be absolutely right; we should have an advantage. But that's not the case here.

With that said I still think we can get him, but I wouldn't be shocked if he chose Temple.

If Jordan doesn't come here, who is even left that can really make an impact for us? I feel spoiled now...2 years in a row getting almost everyone we want and now the well has run dry it seems. Hopefully Lavin reels some top 100's in.

We've had four serious targets for this class, two of them have gone elsewhere and the other two are seriously considering us. That's the well running dry? Even if we miss out on the other two I don't think we can complain that much.

Im not overly worried, its only early Nov. and we only have a couple of scholis to fill and we ll have branch as our PG or Phil. Last year Lavin really made us swet. Things looked bad until springtime. Im more worried about Sanchez at this time.

......just an FYI...Lavin has a way of filling his ships with needed talent. He somehow found Christian Jones way after the signing period ended.... and now he is expected to possibly start. I wouldn't worry so much ... the current team will be a year older...more experienced (whoever stays)... and barring a disaster, in the top half (if not higher) of the conference.

Great post

Don't get me wrong, I want Jordan and Lawrence to sign with St. John's as much as anybody. Adding those 2 great talents to this team has the potential of putting them over the top and a legitimate contender next year. But if there is one thing that Lavin and his assistants have proven over these last few years, it's that they have a real eye for talent. I had never even heard of Jones before SJU signed him and now he's looking like a bonafide contributor from the very start of the season.

Can only pull the rabbit out of the hat so many times.

2 targets remain for 13. We have to get 1 of them. Otherwise something miraculously has to involve us with someone currently not on the radar.

Completely agree. Especially with the fact that we're only filling 1-2 ships.

And you would have to think that the fallback wing/big is Maurice Ndour. Guard, I have no idea.

I think we'll still be in good shape in the worst case scenario that we whiff on the 2 main targets because we'll be that much more experienced. But landing both of them would take us to new heights of consistency.

Provided there aren't any unexpected departures, yes your right.

Didn't he already sign with Ohio?

Just checked. You are right. Yes he did.

Throw my theory out the window then.

Verbal to Ohio, can't sign till WED and who knows maybe he'll keep verbal and sign in spring which would give him time to change mind and sign with a higher rated school.

Per Zags....

Jordan’s plans remain somewhat of a mystery but he is said to be considering St. John’s, Rutgers, Temple and Syracuse.

“Rysheed Jordan could be a game-changer,” longtime New York recruiting expert Tom Konchalski said. “He’s an explosive athlete. In terms of running a halfcourt offense, he’s gotta make certain improvements. But he’s a one-man fast-break. He plays like he’s shot out of a cannon, Evel Knievel without the cycle. He really pushes the pace, forces the pace in the game. Halfcourt he looks to attack the basket. He has great hands and great feet and he can be an outstanding, outstanding player.”

By the way, I've learned that Vaux (Jordan's squad) will be participating in a holiday tournament in my area next month.

Its 50/50

It seems like STJ is going all in on Jordan and Lawrence. What if they lose out?

Are there any known backup plans?

It does seem that way. Probably won't know of backup plans until the HS season gets in full swing and the staff starts trailing guys. Will be a late signing class again. Can he strike again in the spring?
