Rysheed Jordan

I think when it's over we'll end up with Rysheed Jordan and Jarell Martin.

I think it's huge that Jordan's having an official that coincides with the DFTC. I think that's an advantage on atmosphere alone. Alot of former pros will be in attendance and Jordan will see the bonding of the players, most of whom were already friends.

I didn't think we had a chance with him a month ago.

Still a concern that Branch and Greene are only juniors next year, tho. If immediate PT is important, we could have a problem.

Possibly and perhaps not.
No one should be surprised if D-Lo leaves after this season.
If that happens Phil slides over to the 2 spot and there is 20 minutes a game at the pg spot for each of Jamal and Rysheed.

Only problem is Phil has no reliable outside shot. Jamal slides to the 2 as a better shooter.

Sometimes we get caught up in "labels" - I'm not sure coach Lavin really cares. It's 15 years later, and I still don't know if Baron Davis was athe PG and Earl Watson the SG, or Vice-Versa, for the '98 and '99 Lavin teams. Baron led in assists one year, Earl in assists the other. Neither had particularly good outside shots (Baron shot 31 and 34% on 3s his two years, Earl shot 32% both years)....By the way, the year before that, starting SG Toby Bailey led the team in assists with 156 from the wing. That following year, the first of the Baron/Earl backcourt, Bailey moved to SF...and finished 2nd to Baron in assists with 135. Steve will run the offense thru whoever runs it best. That '98 season was Lavin's 2md straight "what-if" year - three 100 plus assist guys in the starting lineup, All five starters future NBA players, and stopped at the Sweet 16 - center Jelani McCoy got suspended for weed, and in the tourney's 2nd game, Baron tore his ACL - the year before it was McCoy suffering a fractured sternum in the Sweet 16 game that ended their run at the Elite 8. Hence, when I post predictions it's always qualified "barring catastrophe". ;(

Thank you. I think sometimes people want to identify a player as a pure point guard or pure shooting guard and forget the fact that you can blur roles on the court. Just a couple of years ago, Villanova had a great backcourt with Randy Foye and Kyle Lowry. And I don't think anybody would label either of those players as a pure point guard. My feeling is that if a player can play, the coaches will find a spot on the court for him. Understandably, you need to balance your lineup with distributors, shooters, slashers, and rebounders. But bringing in a top notch player like Jordan is a win-win and I don't think he'll have to worry about finding minutes. If he is as good as advertised, Lavin will get him out on the court and make the necessary adjustments.

Either way, let's enjoy the players that are currently on the SJU roster. In terms of pure talent, this current group has to be the best backcourt that they've had in years. Harrison, Greene, and Branch are going to be a formidable trio for the Red Storm. Throw in contributions from Bourgault and Balamou and SJU is going to be set.

Any updates on how the visit went?

Only what was reported by Zach Braziller. I also was told by a fan of the Johnnies that Jordan seemed to be having a very, good time on Saturday.

UCLA's pitch is that they are "Point Guard U" and they get PGs into the league. Kyle Anderson is playing Point Forward and Drew isn't getting into the league IMO.

Ben Howland's pace doesn't mesh with Rysheed's game.

Their bigs are slow and they don't really have slashers. I also think Zach Levine will need to have the ball in his hands a lot to be effective.

I hope Jordan considers these factors.

Add in Allerick Freemean at the 2 guard spot. Its very clear Jordan is fall back to Dee leaving.

Bingo (to both Moose and '98)! I don't see Jordan going to UCLA, unless he just falls head over hills with LA. Otherwise, this should come down to us, Maryland and Temple.

Those Hollywood "Hills" and Hollywood nights can be very tempting, LOL!
I think Temple leads with two big +s, they are the "home team" and they are going to be in the Big East.

Jamie Ross, Rysheed Jordan's HS coach, said he could possibly wait until the spring to announce. "He may, he may."

I will hate it from the boards perspective (and the number of posts) if all our guys wait till Spring to announce.

It IS a pretty good pitch. In the last 15 years UCLA PGs Bailey, Davis, Watson, Bozeman, Farmar, Westbrook, Collison, Holiday and Lee have all reached the league, the last 6 in Howlands 9 years. The total # of UCLA PGs to reach the league is 27. Next highest school is North Carolina with 15. Arizona, which LIKES to bill itself as "PGU" has sent 11 total PGs to the league - only 6 in the last 15 years, only 3 in the last 9 years (and that's if you count Salim Stoudemire, who I'm not sure actually ever passed the ball in college or pro).

I think UCLA is the toughest competition. They have zero point guards as it stands on their 2013-14 roster. They can "make do" with one of 4 combo guys, but they're making a strong push for a true PG to take over as starter. Have Rysheed and Roddy Peters coming in for officials on successive weekends.

As for speed and slashing, you're really wrong on that one. Norman Powell, Tyler Lamb, Jordan Adams and incoming Zach Lavine excel at it. Lavine, who WAS recruited as a potential PG when he was 6'1 1/2 as a junior, is up to a legit 6'4 and apparently still growing - he may well be an SF by the time practice starts next season.

I agree.... You know a handful of posters will become impatient or outraged. We may not have to wait that long, per Jordan. By the way, I see a Temple fan being concerned, per the tweets.

Rysheed Jordan advisor Rodney Vinny tells me St. John's has "emerged" in Philly PG's eyes after visit. #stjbb

Jordan camps expects him to commit sometime before new year and St. John's is one of schools he's considering. #stjbb

It sounds like we are in really good shape, especially after the visit. Hope we can get a commit from him this fall.

It's just an assumption, but....

Ron Patterson to Syracuse probably also means Rysheed Jordan more likely to go to #stjbb, Temple or Rutgers.
