Rysheed Jordan

Per Rivals....

Nothing imminent

Earlier this week, five-star point guard Rysheed Jordan caused a stir when he tweeted that he could be close to making a decision.

Somewhere along the line, people missed the smiley face attached to the tweet, and according to the 6-foot-4 point guard's summer coach and mentor Kamal Yard, a decision is not imminent.

"I've told him he needs to be careful with that Twitter stuff," Yard told Rivals.com. "He's not ready to make a decision yet. He was just playing around." While the No. 16 player in the class of 2013 isn't ready to announce a college choice, he could be paring his list within the next few weeks. Among those still involved are Temple, Villanova, Maryland, St. John's, LaSalle, Seton Hall, Rutgers.

Per Zags.... Of course, I was hoping we'd make the cut, but I never truly felt we would ultimately land Jordan.

Rysheed Jordan has set official visits to UCLA and Maryland, his AAU coach told SNY.tv Wednesday.

The 6-foot-4 point guard from Philly Vaux Roberts will trip to UCLA Sept. 22-24 and to Maryland Oct. 12-14 for their Midnight Madness, Kamal Yard said.

Yard said Jordan is considering UCLA, Maryland, Syracuse, Temple and Rutgers at this point.

I agree on Temple as the likely landing spot. Which means that former Temple commit Josh Brown who is still considering Temple will probably drop Temple altogether.

Nova better watch Temple there and what they are doing.

What would make Temple more attractive then Nova?

I think having a guy nicknamed "Black Jesus" wouldn't fly too well at Nova or any of our religious institutions - lmao

Well Looie recruited and almost signed Billy Rieser (aka White Jesus) back in the day and that would have been a coup d'état

Last week we weren't on his list; now we are getting an official. I'm learning (with Lavin at the helm) not to take seriously these posts that count us out.

(See similar post in Ish Wainright thread)

I thought we were out with him a couple of weeks ago, but it seems us not being mentioned might've been a faux pas.

Regardless, we get him on an official visit this weekend, and I really love our chances when our staff gets a kid on an official.

Hopefully, Jordan comes away very, very excited and gives us a commitment.

I think when it's over we'll end up with Rysheed Jordan and Jarell Martin.

I think it's huge that Jordan's having an official that coincides with the DFTC. I think that's an advantage on atmosphere alone. Alot of former pros will be in attendance and Jordan will see the bonding of the players, most of whom were already friends.

I didn't think we had a chance with him a month ago.

I would love to add Jordan to this team...I'm sure Darrick Martin could help him work on getting to the league and being an NBA PG

that would be amazing but do we have 2 spots to give? Thiught we only had one.

Still a concern that Branch and Greene are only juniors next year, tho. If immediate PT is important, we could have a problem.

We only have one, but the staff possibly foresees another scholarship to open up.

Possibly and perhaps not.
No one should be surprised if D-Lo leaves after this season.
If that happens Phil slides over to the 2 spot and there is 20 minutes a game at the pg spot for each of Jamal and Rysheed.

Only problem is Phil has no reliable outside shot. Jamal slides to the 2 as a better shooter.

Understood and that is another option.

There is no reason we can't run a "two man" point guard backcourt. Calhoun and Wright have done it with success in the past. it just opens up the game when you have two capable/interchangeable guys back there together.

North, how do Jamal and Jordan get 20 minutes each at point guard? Are you replacing Branch with them?

Forget my previous post, read it wrong.

Sometimes we get caught up in "labels" - I'm not sure coach Lavin really cares. It's 15 years later, and I still don't know if Baron Davis was athe PG and Earl Watson the SG, or Vice-Versa, for the '98 and '99 Lavin teams. Baron led in assists one year, Earl in assists the other. Neither had particularly good outside shots (Baron shot 31 and 34% on 3s his two years, Earl shot 32% both years)....By the way, the year before that, starting SG Toby Bailey led the team in assists with 156 from the wing. That following year, the first of the Baron/Earl backcourt, Bailey moved to SF...and finished 2nd to Baron in assists with 135. Steve will run the offense thru whoever runs it best. That '98 season was Lavin's 2md straight "what-if" year - three 100 plus assist guys in the starting lineup, All five starters future NBA players, and stopped at the Sweet 16 - center Jelani McCoy got suspended for weed, and in the tourney's 2nd game, Baron tore his ACL - the year before it was McCoy suffering a fractured sternum in the Sweet 16 game that ended their run at the Elite 8. Hence, when I post predictions it's always qualified "barring catastrophe". ;(

Phil will be a good shooter this season and I expect he'll improve over his career. I don't know why you think Branch is a better shooter. I think Phill will be the better shooter--not by too much, though.
