Rysheed Jordan

Can we stay on topic here.
Every time I see a new post registered, I'm thinking for some reason Jordan's not playing today.
So we should go back to talking about hot lesbians? :)

Instead of piling onto his recruiting thread its ok to start a new thread. Jordan doesn't win ROY etc.

@yelbeeez: Damn. RT @KieranDarcy: Billy Garrett Jr. of DePaul here... Looks like he's beaten out Rysheed Jordan for Big East ROY #sjubb

Motivation.

Any player worth his salt gets motivated by the center jump; I never understood this "artificial" motivation. Does that mean Jordan (or anyone) doesn't focus and play to his fullest unless he perceives a slight? Just really silly to me but as I have said many times I am old, am old school and didn't need anything other than an opponent and keeping score to get motivated.

How many times do we see teams play flat. If they were completely motivated teams would never be flat and every game would be a battle. But a lot of times players will be a lot more focused and motivated in a big game than they are in a game against an inferior opponent

Motivation is part of human emotion. In someways athletes are no different than the average person with a regular job. I can tell you for certain people in my office are a lot more motivated tues-thurs than they are on mondays and fridays but theoretically they should be motivated the same every day since they are paid on revenue generated and not salary

I disagree; working in an office is an entirely different situation. There is an very different and increased focus and intensity when the lights go on in a game. I don't disagree with the comments anyone has on motivation, I realize it is a legitimate part of everyday life. But there are certain things, and I think high level athletic competition is one of them, where true motivation has to come from within, be part of your DNA, for one to truly realize their potential. I just get a kick out of what I see as the modern perception of competition in general; what motivates, what insults, etc. I just have a different view of things I guess.

There are physiological effects that are explained by science. If you were to fight someone...you'd be pretty into it. But if you saw the same person hit your sister right before, you'd be a monster. You'd give 100% of what is available in either scenario, but you'd have more of which to give in the second. I can only speak for myself, but the best games of my life came when there were physical altercations, racial slurs being hurled at me, getting spit, insults or (best) when I was jealous becuase the other kid was regarded as a better player or recruited by better schools. I would get downright nasty. Those are the kids you want beside you and those are the kids you want on your team.

I'll say this about Rysheed Jordan - when he gets on a roll he can score effortlessly in bunches. He scored all of his points in a very short period of time yesterday. When he plays like that he is nearly unstoppable. He's going to ring up 30 or more points one of these days. What a pleasure to watch.

Think Sheed will be our most talented and best player next season.
He is easily the biggest reason I am stupidly optimistic about next year. He is our best point guard in years. He may even grow another inch or 2 in the next year.

I had not even considered that he's not done growing. At 6'6" with his skills he'd present enormous problems for defenses.

Yeah, especially if he takes Extenz! :)

He's perfect where he's at. I doubt he grows anyway. I've never been a fan of tall point guards.

I went from 6-5 to 6-7 after I was 18 but, obviously, that's me. It's definitely a possibility.

I'll say this, and thank you for being an optimist for next season, is that Jordan is inching very close to being worth the price of admission alone.

Are you really describing Sir Dom? LOL.

Motivation?? Of course certain events motivate even the best players. Even if your head is screwed on right, any event could fuel an adrenaline rush that makes you want to go out and crush someone. It's why football teams put newspaper quotes from opponents in locker rooms.

There is a story I believe documented in the book "Foul" about Connie Hawkins.

Back in the day where pro players regularly played in the Rucker tournament to cement their street credos against legends like Earl "The Goat" Manigault, (an incredible player but heroin addict), or Herman the helicopter, or any number of guys, for Hawkins the Rucker was his only shot to prove he belonged among the pros. Pro players, for their part, knew that if they were embarrassed in Harlem, their own fans would think less of them as tough players who could excel at the city game.

In one such game, Hawkins matched up against Wilt Chamberlain's team. Hawkins was THE man in NYC, and the matchup stuffed the park, with fans hangin from cyclone fences, climbing trees and standing on parked cars and trucks to watch the action. Early in the contest, which Chamberlain was going at half speed, Hawkins drove the lane, drew Chamberlain, and hook-dunked over him. The place went crazy, play stopped, and fans hooted and cheered the NYC Hawkins for humiliating the Philly guy Chamberlain.

From that moment on Chamberlain went berserk. HE blocked every shot he could, often catching shots in mid air. He called for the ball every time, and when his own teammates shot jumpers, he caught the ball and slammed it. The place got silent, as Chamberlain's team won by about 80. Even the best player on earth can use a little motivation.
