Congrats to Rysheed Jordan for his 4th @BIGEAST Rookie of the Week selection and D'Angelo Harrison for an Honor Roll nod, his 15th! #SJUBB

Fantastic news Tom. Let's hope Rysherds greAt play yesterday and improved play as of late is enough to put him over the top and win big east rookie of the year. It will be close I imagine.

I think the ROW award totals and PPG may be tough to overcome...those stats aside...not a coach that would't select Jordan

One thing to consider: Jordan got it in gear during the conference season, and his conference stats are better than his non-conf stats against mostly creampuffs. St. John's winning the final 10 out of 13 coincided with Jordan's elevated play. Garrett's play didn't elevate DePaul - Jordan's most certainly made us one of the best, if not the best conference team over the final 13 games. Take Jordan away and replace his minutes with Branch, a serviceable point guard, and no way do we win 10 of the final 13.

Agree Beast...just hope the coaches see it that way

I think since it's close, it won't be Jordan.
Simply because those who do the voting won't want the same school to have three in so tight a time frame.
Let's spread around the glow will be the instinct and the reality is the stats lean slightly the other way.

Looks like Garrett gets BE Freshman Award I would guess;

@DePaulSID: Early start today at @TheGarden. Got a little press conference to attend with one of our players. #dpubb

Hopefully it is a joint award. Jordan should not be shut out.

@yelbeeez: Damn. RT @KieranDarcy: Billy Garrett Jr. of DePaul here... Looks like he's beaten out Rysheed Jordan for Big East ROY #sjubb

Motivation.

Any player worth his salt gets motivated by the center jump; I never understood this "artificial" motivation. Does that mean Jordan (or anyone) doesn't focus and play to his fullest unless he perceives a slight? Just really silly to me but as I have said many times I am old, am old school and didn't need anything other than an opponent and keeping score to get motivated.

Not surprising. Having the last two winners certainly hurt Jordan IMO big time.

Who cares? His goal as well as ours should be to cut down the nets on Saturday night.

In football, I think it's a factor, because you can hit a guy harder.

In the other sports (especially baseball), that kind of stuff can actually work against you, because you start pressing.

Yes, every athlete should always give their all and be pumped up, but in reality they have to quite often be motivated to live up to ther full potential, especially when you are talking about young men who are not professional players.

Even on the pro level, how many times have you seen a player have a phenomenal career year during the last year of his contract? Only to be followed up by mediocre seasons after.

Motivation is very real in sports.

You think he wasn't sold on the fact that he was following up 2 prior BE ROTYs?
You think he didn't take being Preseason ROTY seriously?

He got beat out by a kid that I'm pretty sure he feels he's better than who was on a team that didn't do squat in the conference.

I'm pretty sure Sheed wants to ball out of his mind come tomorrow and other players are pumping him up by it.

Grand scheme of things, Sheed has much more ahead of him but I have no doubt that he wanted that award.
