Rysheed Jordan

Of course he does, they all do. You think if Sampson was guaranteed a lottery pick this year he wouldn't have bolted? They all want a one and done, but if the projections aren't there he will stick around. He's a two year player in my mind. He'll play we'll enough this year so that scouts will have their eyes on him going into his sophomore year, and maybe he will have a breakout year and leave.

Great. Now go out and prove on the court next season that you are a first round NBA draft pick in 2014, and we'll all be happy. Best of Luck

WHEN THE LIGHTS went on at the playground at 10th and Olney for another round of games in the Chosen League last Wednesday night, an unexpected visitor drew a crowd upon news of his participation. His flow and charisma with the ball, and without, wowed fans, and opposing players alike. Rysheed Jordan scored 26 points in his return to the Chosen League, the only time he will play in the league this summer. The star guard is headed off to spend the summer practicing with his new team, the St. John's Red Storm. He was slated to leave last week, but his departure from Philadelphia was pushed back because of the Fourth of July holiday. That gave Jordan one last opportunity to play in the Chosen League, as he did last summer, and it also served as somewhat of a reunion for him. Out of the five players on his team, three were his teammates at Robert Vaux High School. Jordan was happy to play with those old teammates one last time. "It felt good,"

Jordan said."I wasn't playing for real. I just had to break a sweat, that's all." Jordan showed why he was ranked 17th on the ESPN100 recruiting list, including being the best player in the state of Pennsylvania. He averaged 26 points per game in his senior season at Vaux, possessing a seemingly effortless game, even when he is blowing by would-be defenders and finishing in traffic. Jordan was heavily recruited by St. John's, Temple and UCLA.

While many around the city believed he would stay local and go to Temple - after all, his nickname is "The Prince of North Philly" - Jordan said he wanted the chance to leave Philadelphia, where he has lived all his life. He said UCLA was too far, making St. John's a perfect fit. The 6-4, 185-pound guard believes his game is in a good spot right now, but there is always room for improvement. "I'm working on everything," he said simply. "I think I can play good defense, and I can finish," Jordan added. "I can also pass the ball. I'm working on shooting a lot more." Jordan will have every chance to work on his skills this summer in Queens, N.Y., with St. John's head coach Steve Lavin and his staff. Jordan is the only recruit for the class of 2013, and Lavin has taken the time to motivate his incoming freshman. "We talk everyday," Jordan said about his new coach. "He sends me little quotes and videos. He sends videos of Steph Curry shooting and his ballhandling, stuff like that. He sends me a lot of guys' tapes. [Rajon] Rondo, Chris Paul, all the best point guards in the [NBA]."

Jordan is poised to make an immediate impact for the Red Storm when the season kicks off in November. With the inspiration of Lavin, and a chance to see playing time as a freshman, Jordan, a man of few words, can't wait to get to St. John's. "I'm very excited," he said.

On paper we do have some weapons other than him, so that may keep his numbers down and him here for a second season. Plus it's a strong draft.

Hey, if the kid proves he is worthy of his #17 5 star ranking he will be getting plenty of burn. I just really hope this kid isn't a bust...we need a program changer in the worst way. The kind of kid that goes to the NBA, makes an impact and everyone recognizes him as someone who went to St. John's. I really hope our offense takes huge strides as they should with all the firepower we now have. I want to feel like we can score at will instead of watching so many other teams do that to us like Murray State or USF.

I don't think there's any way he will be a bust, but just in case he only averages 9 ppg next season, try to hold off on freaking out because it could jump to 17 ppg as a soph.

I realize that...especially if D'Lo finds his stroke again he's going to want the ball. If D'Lo struggles mightily though like last year, I'd look for a bigger role for Jordan so he can score more like 15 PPG.

Very excited to see this kid play...Love that Lavin is talking to him every day and keeping him motivated to get to the league

Regardless of how D'Lo is playing, Rysheed will play a big role. He'll have big games where he goes off. Don't expect it every game of course, but he has other skills that we don't have like his size, speed, athleticism at guard along with his ability to get to the basket and dish. Defenders will have to guard our Pg for once, and Rysheed will test lots of defenses. We had a lot of holes at PG that I think finally will get remedied and will make our offense more dangerous.

D'Lo will be at his best with a real PG there. We were our best last year with Branch and D'Lo in there. This year we will have the depth of 4 nice players at guard.

He seems extremely motivated. Many of his tweets are motivational talking about his dream going to the NBA and just working harder to get to the top. He also seems to take the negative energy from Temple fans and aim to turn it into motivation to prove haters wrong. He's just a kid he could easily engage in a shouting match with the naysayers, but he uses it as fuel. I love players like that. He will definitely need that mindset playing on this stage in NY.

Problem is every fan base overhypes their recruits and gives them unrealistic expectations. Jordan is a tremendous player but lets remember he is going from public high school to the big east. That is a big adjustment that he'll have to make and i'm confident he wil

Kind of depends on how you define bust - but kids at #17 in the ESPN rankings like Rysheed was are VERY rarely "busts":

2012 Sam Dekker
2011 Tony Wroten
2010 Ray McCallum
2009 Ryan Kelley
2008 Al-Farouk Aminu
2007 Donte Greene
2006 Derrick Character
2005 Greg Paulus
2004 Jordan Farmar
2003 Trevor Ariza
2002 Anthony Roberson
2001 TJ Ford
2000 Alton Ford
1999 Jason Richardson
1998 Erick Barkley

True, but that's the case for all great recruits. Everyone will have to make adjustments, but when you are a 5 star recruit your adjustment should not be large. Many elite recruits find instant success. See Sampson, Arcidiacono, Obekpa, etc.
