Rysheed Jordan

I'm very surprised he chose not to play in the Mary Kline game. It's played in Philly.

Probably just wants to get away to different states.

It's only for underclassmen I thought.

They have a Senior Roster and an Underclassmen Roster. Plenty of SJU targets are playing.

@MarcusHelton: US Team will apparently be short-handed ...Rysheed Jordan, Frank Mason, Moses Kingsley reportedly not here today. Have about 7 guys.

He didn't show?

Do not think that mattered at all to coach. .they did their research.so even if his #.went up they would still be satisfied Although agree it looks better to fans and media pundits

This is an exclusive to these (JJ & Redmen) message boards only:

Rysheed will be playing in the Mary Kline Classic on Sunday June 2nd at Philadelphia University in the Senior All-Star Game. His addition to the roster will be formally announced next week, but Alex Kline (the organizer of the event) wanted me to get it out there for you guys first. In addition to Rysheed, we have underclassmen recruits Isaiah Whitehead, Jared Terrell and Cheick Diallo playing.

It's a great event thats well worth the trip for and it benefits cancer research and there is some really good talent in the Underclassmen and Senior games. More info, including rosters, are here:

It would only be worth it if he plays meaningful minutes IMO. The last showcase game he appeared to be more of a bench player than a main focus of the game. I understand they want to let all the kids get equal minutes, but you can bet a ton more people come to see Jordan than anyone else. Therefore he should get more minutes. It's like having a showcase with MJ and some average NBA players...of course the crowd will want to see MJ and he should get more minutes because of it.

That explains why he skipped out on the game in DC as I believe there is a 2 "all-star game" limit.

Would be great to see him get MVP honors as I believe Jermaine Lawrence got it last year and will be playing in this one too.

Only worth what? It's an Allstar game, what's meaningful minutes?

PHILADELPHIA — Rysheed Jordan chose to leave his hometown for college, but he enjoyed playing one last all-star game here Sunday night in the Mary Kline Classic.

“It was fun,” the 6-foot-4 St. John’s pledge told SNY.tv after scoring 12 points, including two 3-pointers, as Team Courage beat Team Perseverance, 116-110, in the Senior Game.

“Basically, it was like our last all-star game so I just wanted to come back and play at home. I had a lot of family here.”

After choosing the Johnnies over Temple and UCLA in news first reported by SNY.tv, Jordan will begin summer school next month at St. John’s and said he’s ultimately eyeing a career in the NBA.

First, he will make the trip with the Johnnies to Paris, Rome and Barcelona in August for 10 days of practice and potentially five exhibition games.

Jordan said St. John’s coach Steve Lavin is looking at using him as a point guard, with returning guard D’Angelo Harrison at the two. St. John’s also has guards Jamal Branch and Phil Greene in the backcourt.

“[He will use me] more as a one,” Jordan said, “with D’Angelo off the ball and coming off picks.”

Harrison is working his way back to the St. John’s team after getting into Lavin’s doghouse and getting suspended at the end of last season.

It remains unclear how Jordan and Harrison — two players who can tend to dominate the ball — will coexist in the St. John’s backcourt.

One joke going around is that neither player will want to inbound the ball because they both are afraid they won’t get it back.

Jordan dismissed those concerns.

“I think we’ll play great,” he said. “We be all unselfish. I’m starting to shoot the ball good. D’Angelo’s shooting the ball pretty good, I’m a great passer.”

Mostly, Jordan said he’s looking forward to getting to St. John’s and playing in the new-look Big East.

“I didn’t want to stay home and I didn’t want to go too far away so St. John’s was the choice,” he said. “It ain’t too far from home. My family can get up there and get back.”

In Jordan, returning Big East Rookie of the Year JaKarr Sampson and center Chris Obekpa — who has been invited to the Amar’e Stoudemire / Anthony Davis Nike Big Man Skills Camp later this month in New Jersey — St. John’s has two or three potential pros.

Jordan said the NBA is his ultimate goal.

“Yes, I’m not going to say one-and-done, but that was my dream,” he said. “If it takes more than one, I’ll just keep working.”

Anyone know how Sheed did in the Mary Kline Classic?

12 points (two three-pointers) for the winning team. He didn't make Zag's top 10 list from the event (two games). I really wanted him to go off, as these events are usually dominated by guards, but at the end of the day I realize it was just an all-star game.

My brother and I went to the Mary Kline classic yesterday, great event, even better cause. Even got to meet Zagoria who was a cool dude and talked to us for a little . In regards to rysheed, do not be concerned about the point total. Sheed started but the coach used mass subs at every half quarter to make sure all the kids got equal minutes. It was obvious that made it hard for all the guards to get into a rhythm. Even so sheed's jumper looked very smooth from deep and mid range, very explosive going tithe basket, will be a stud offensively no doubt but we already knew that. My favorite part of his game was how unbelievably active he was defensively, getting out in passing lanes and just generally being a pest. Must've had at least 5 or 6 steals. Talked to a local Philly high school hopes fan who said defense will set sheed apart at next level. Loves to defend and really intense. Also sheed had some awesome passes, great court vision. Probably had 5 or 6 assists and 4 or so more that we're great looks but dropped by the guys on the other end. All in all I came away very impressed and think this kid will be an absolute stud. Saw the underclassman game as well but ill keep this post to sheed as it his thread. ;)

Thanks for the write up. It's tough to get a feel for the type of game he had going off just his point total. It is great to hear that he had some nice dimes and even better to hear that he played some D and was getting to the hoop.
