Rysheed Jordan

Amazing how flexible our standards become when exceptional talent suits our purposes.

Along with every big time school you can think of.

Unless of course you're a Duke, Kentucky or a few other schools who will simply bench and then replace a player with that kind of attitude. Do you realy think that coach Cal or coach K would ever put up with that?

I don't think that our coaching staff would put up with it either.

By "it" I'm referring to f-ing this and f-ing that.to the camera.

He's a young lad and he'll learn.

I'm glad he's aboard.

Rysheed just posted an instagram video of himself in Times Square talking about how bright the lights were. Anyone who says NYC or MSG are no longer a big part of our draw for recruits is nuts. Also had another video of him and some friends visiting Coney Island. He seems to be relishing the new city that might be his. Notice I was careful not to say the city is his yet...it will be if he lives up to expectations though!

Lookin good in the new gear!

By the way, saw this in an Applebees near my home (Suffolk County)...couldn't resist. I was impressed at the exposure 50 miles from campus.

He really seems to be enjoying the city. And spending time with Harkless in the gym is a big plus

Absolutely. Harkless is such a high-character kid that I want everyone on the team around him as much as possible.

And I know Norm takes a lot of shit here, but the core kids he recruited that made up Lavin's first team are such great guys. I want to see them all here working out as often as their schedule permits.

Sheed just uploaded a video to instagram dancing and gooning around with Obekpa. Obekpa is definitely the team clown, great to have a guy to keep em loose out there but also handle business on the court! Let's hope they don't get any noise ordinance fines :)

Where were the top 100 recruits years ago under Norm, they were non existent Joe, it all has to do with winning ang getting players to the next level. No more no less. Syracuse is Exhibit A to my statement. We now have a staff that players believe will get them to the next level and as long as they do top talent will come to Queens. The rest is just window dressing.

This is one of those situations where being in NYC is what landed us Rysheed. Part of it is the big stage, part of it is the fact that we are close but not too close to Philly. He even said that was a major factor being able to visit family and have them see his games but still far enough to be on his own.

I have serious doubts we would've even been in the conversation for Jordan, if Roberts was still the head coach. Jordan's proximity to NYC wouldn't have even come into play. Lavin (and, practically, Chiles) are the reasons why Jordan is with St. John's. The staff is the reason why proximity came into play.

Agree all the way and would even up this to "no chance Sheed even CONSIDERED STJ with Roberts. The only big recruits that listed us under Roberts were local guys that never intended on coming here. It's like a hot girl keeping the safe, dorky guy on a list for prom dates if all else fails.

Nailed it!

#1 issue IMO to 4 & 5 star recruits is the HC's track record getting kids to NBA. Lavin has that.

Never said Lavin didn't mean more than our location, because he definitely has a knack for pulling off big recruits, but if SJU was located in Texas he doesn't come here. By the way, saw somewhere on his instagram that one of his friends died and was a big SJU fan and he said it was "part of the reason I signed with SJU".

Basically, what I'm saying is the location would've been irrelevant, if Lavin wasn't here. Lavin's presence played a role with the proximity of the school.

It's hypothetical to say, he wouldn't have come to St. John's if it was located in Texas. Like I stated awhile ago, UCLA, supposedly, was closer to landing Jordan than Temple (per, what I was told). Temple is smack-dabbed in Philly, while UCLA is clear across the country. But it doesn't matter now, as there really isn't a second place when it comes to recruiting. You either get the player or you leave empty-handed.

My daughter has a friend from Philly who is friends with Rysheed's cousin. The cousin said that St. John's was a lick for a long time because he wanted to get out of Philly but didn't want to go too far. That being said, if Norm was still here, we would not have been that happy medium.

Seriously, can we stop with the "if norm was still here" nonsense!?!?... It's pretty OBVIOUS that coach Lav is a much better recruiter and better head coach than Norm... however, I appreciate the fact Roberts took over the program right after Jarvis basically DESTROYED it... he tried his best, CLEANED up the mess, brought in mostly HIGH character kids... but just couldn't get that break-through recruit OR have a break-out 20-25 win season...I thank him throwing out the garbage and trying his best... God Bless Ya, Norm!!... That being said, I am glad he is LONG gone!!..lol.... Long, Live... LAV!!!

I was as big a Norm supporter as anyone on these boards. I appreciate the job that he did for us and I respect the man. I try never to bring him up---especially in any negative way. The point was made that without Lavin and his staff, Rysheed would not have considered us. I just offered what little info I had. I didn't bring it up around his recruitment because I was the person who passed on the rumor of Gift to Harvard and I didn't want to come off looking like a fool again.

Mr. Glass I was the one who raised the issue of " If Norm was Coach" to refute Joe's statement that the bright lights of NYC attracted Rysheed to Queens. I tried to explain to him that NYC had nothing to do with him coming to Queens but rather our great staff and their ability to put kids in the Pros. That is why we are now getting top talent to Queens. In Coach Lavin I trust.
As for the rest of your post I agree with every word.
