He's retweeting Temple fans 10-to-1. They're showing him a lot of love.
You cannot dismiss what Khalif Wyatt did this year. And Jordan was basically at every Temple home game watching him do it. The kid loves Philly to death. SJU probably is better suited for him because Temple will have more roster turnover. But Temple did what we haven't done with our local recruits. Dunphy was at practically every single game Jordan played. That does not go unnoticed.
I go back to Lavin making a statement months ago saying that all would be well if we don't get any '13 recruits. A head coach should never utter those words.
I don't care who is back next year but a recruiter of Lavin's caliber should never whiff on all targets in a calendar year.
Kyle Anderson showed tons of love to Seton Hall fans, and he also attended games for years. Kyle Anderson also attended two separate Midnight Madness events at Georgetown.
Jordan lives in Philly, so why not go to the games.... Most kids love their city. Not to mention, Corey Fisher were at plenty of St. John's home games. I bet he would've tweeted much love for the Johnnies, if Twitter existed at that particular time.
If Jordan ends up at Temple, then it wouldn't be shocking. But I don't think none of this stuff is very telling, as kids tend to thrive on the attention.
Lastly, Willard was the most visible at Kyle Anderson games. Granted, all of the coaches involved were quite visible in his recruitment, but if a coach had to be chosen for the least visible, then it was Howland. I'd expect Dunphy to take in Jordan's games, similarly to any collegiate coach to attend high school games in their backyard.
You can't compare this to Kyle. Him popping for UCLA was in the books long before his announcement. A family doesn't just pack up and move across coasts at the drop of a hat. There were much more things going on in Kyle's recruitment beyond attending games.
Does anyone here have a plausible reason why the NY POY Jon Severe is sitting right there at CTK and we didn't go after him? Did you see his cut list? It's laughable.
Guess what? In the game called recruiting, there are generally things going on beyond attending games. I've heard many, recruiting tales over my time while following recruiting. Some of 'em are probably just 'tales,' where others are more than just hearsay. Sometimes, the truth is stranger than a lie.
I can't explain the Severe situation. You'll have to ask the staff for that reasoning. But I know with one scholarship, and while targeting Jordan, then they must feel confident in landing Jordan. Or, they feel, if they miss out on Jordan, then they can use the scholarship towards a '14 kid.
I saw Severe's cut list. Is his list laughable? I really didn't see any "heavy hitters" on his list other than possibly Pitt. Once you take out the emotional element, then you may see why the staff didn't go after him. I haven't seen Severe, so I can't comment on him.
Who knows!?! Maybe, they'll regret not being a player for him in the end.
You want to know what I think? As stupid as it sounds, because a kid like Severe isn't cracking anyone's Top 100 list, we ignored him. Nevermind the fact that he just dropped 40 points in a state tourney game. He is in our very own backyard and we basically snubbed our nose at him.
If we miss out on Jordan, fine. We're up against a lot.
But you can't let quality local kids go elsewhere. And that was my point about Dunphy.
Dunphy may never land a recruit of Jordan's caliber again in his lifetime. But he did exactly what he needed to do for one of his state's best players. He went balls out (no Fraschilla) to land him. We don't do that for our local recruits. Sometimes it works as in Obekpa's case. But many times, especially in this social media landscape, it doesn't work.
Obekpa's personality is more hands off. A kid like Jordan on the other hand practically lives on twitter.
You have a gem in your backyard, show him everything he needs to see and if you fail, just tip your hat. Willard did that with Kyle.
With McCullough, we were left there standing with our hands in our pockets as he just so happened to commit right after Boeheim visited a practice of his at Brewster.
