Rysheed Jordan

Girls have picked them every one

(we're probably the only 2 on here who know what this is :) )

After hearing a pronouncement like that -- "we're probably the only 2 on here who know what this is" -- I can only ask: When will you ever learn, when will you ever learn?

my first career leads me to:

gone to graveyards everyone (if I'm tuning into the same "tune" as you???)
and unfortunately ala Vietnam, when we leave Iraq/Afghanistan..

some learn, sometimes the learning is sudden, more often with time ala PJCarlesimo and Seton Hall. Time.
Herman Melville in his story about the whale comments, if I recall, on his four most essential fungibles in life, this here life:

"Oh time, strength, cash and patience!" We need all four. We will gather all four. St John's will slowly rise again. Mullin and Bootsey; Goodwin and Postell; Russell and Barkley; Jackson and Hardy; Sonny as in Money Dove and Hatten; they'll be smiles again at hand and ahead.

Source says St. John's only recruiting Jermaine Lawrence and Rysheed Jordan for 2013, but Johnnies "right there" for both. #stjbb

Risky move, hope it works out

@NYPost_Brazille: #stjbb's Lavin on recruiting: “If we don’t sign anybody, that’s fine. ... Only going to bring in somebody if they fill a need."

What?!?

I would be shocked if we dont sign either Jordan or Lawrence but I disagree with that quote because we do have needs. IMO we need an attacking guard and another big wouldn't hurt

My thing is, why put that out there to the media.

Did Jarell Martin fill a need? What about Ishmail Wainright?

This guy is really puzzling me nowadays.

Everyone on this board knows that's who we're recruiting.
What's he supposed to do, lie?
Would anyone here be surprised if we don't get at least one, if not both?

I'm convinced Lavin will only recruit combo bigs. We're not going to see a true big man I don't think.
He wants guys who can run the floor. I think we're more likely to see guys like Sanchez and Gift. 6'8 with a little muscle.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, like '72 says .. it's about talent.

The thing is, IMO having a big center doesn't stop you from running. You need to get rebounds to run, and the person who gets that rebound (big burly center) won't need to beat people down thee court.

I think having a big center actually helps you run in many circumstances.

Why put it out there? It's a great thing when your top 2 guys think/know they are the only two. People questioning Lavin's recruiting tactics are nuts. Question his coaching or anything else. The guy is one of the bet recruiters I. The game. Too bad people don't have a little patience to build this thing as its only his 3rd recruiting class and we dont even have any upperclassmen on the roster yet.

Not who we are recruiting.

The "it's fine" if we don't get them message. How about a more upbeat approach. For a coach who hangs his hat on his recruiting prowess, it comes off kind of ho-hum, whatever. What happened to that hammer to rock enthusiasm. Now it's more like oh well.

Yeah, let's fire the incompetent S.O.B. Let's start talking about replacements. Any names?

I thought we would get involved with other players, in case we don't land Lawrence and Jordan, but I believed I mentioned in the summer that the staff was only gonna bring in kids that could immediately help the team.

It, however, is believed the 6-foot-3 Jordan will remain local, at Temple, not St. John’s or UCLA, the other school he is considering.

It has been the rumor for months.......I hope MJDinkins wish...becomes true however.

My wish? It should be the wish of all St. John's fans. It was what I was told by someone who has access to the situation.

By the way, how about the rumors that Obekpa was (long) headed to Cincy? Or, Pointer's dad preaching Michigan prior to Pointer verballing to St. John's. Many folks assumed he was headed to Ann Arbor based on his father's quotes. What about when folks thought Sampson had spurned the Johnnies, and was headed to either Kansas or Providence?

You can tell by the way the piece was written that it's an assumption based on Jordan's proximity to Temple. We are in very, good shape with Jordan. Of course, one shouldn't feel comfortable until he's committed and signed with the Johnnies.

What tells me we have a slight advantage over Temple is this: 1) NYC is still only 90 miles up I-95 so he will still be very close to home taking away a Temple advantage or at least making it a wash 2) Temple as of right now will be playing SMU, UCF, Tulane, etc. in a few years and may very well have terrible competition while we are basically set 3) UCLA won't be able to give him enough minutes 4) The fact that he has waited this long is telling IMO...if he was going to stay home it would be a quick decision I would think. SJ is the best all-around school on the list he could ask for when taking into consideration: proximity to home, major hoops, and a set future guaranteed to remain competitive. Though Temple is very good, it's a mid-major with no future and could end up down the drain with those ugly new Big East additions.

Why is everybody panicking over an article written in the NY Post? Let me remind you, Rysheed has not signed a LOI with anybody yet. If Temple was in the bag, he would've signed with them already.

Take a step back and let it unfold.

That's a great point 'Mase. Right now our whole team has to crash the boards, if we had a big man who owned the boards our guards could start to leak out.

Also, I think it's worth considering that there's a very real chance we have only 1 scholarship available.
The big "if" is going to be whether Dangelo wants to start playing overseas now, or if he comes back.

Don't think Jakarr is a problem. And definitely not Chris O. Always possible that someone transfers tho.
