Rysheed Jordan

Sheed recently dropped 31 pts but was quiet in his last game. He tweeted he would commit the 8th, but then tweeted that someone stole his phone and that it wasn't true. Down to Temple, UCLA, and SJ. I would think UCLA can't give him much playing time, and think about where Temple might be 2 years from now playing Tulane, East Carolina, SMU, etc. I would think SJ makes the most sense overall: i.e. still only 90 miles from home, tons of playing time we need a PG who can score BADLY, and also the promise of staying with the big boys i.e. G'Town, Marquette, Nova, Xavier, Butler, etc. rather than SMU, Tulane, UCF, etc.

We shall see...

We're certainly in solid position (if not the leader) for Jordan's services. UCLA is a darkhorse in this one. I wouldn't count 'em out just yet.

He probably won't be in college too long, though. 8 siblings (from what I was told).

Doesn't matter how many siblings he has...he has to be a great player to go pro so I'll take a 1 and done great year from him anyday. Just imagine Harrison, Sampson, Lawrence, Jordan, and even Gift. If we get both there is zero and I repeat ZERO excuse to not make the NCAA's at the bare minimum unless Harrison gets hurt.

There is always a chance to play pro after playing a year or two of collegiate ball. Although, the ultimate goal is playing in the NBA, there is a such thing as abroad. Whether, you believe it or not.... I'm willing to go out on a limb by saying, 8 siblings could very, well accelerate the jump to the next level.

Not to mention, Jordan has the requisite build and athleticisim that the NBA craves. There is another thing called potential. That is what the NBA is all about nowadays (one doesn't have to be "great" to make the jump).

Regardless, I'd love to get him in the fold and worry about the other stuff at a later time.

I'm agreeing with you. All I'm saying is, who cares? He has to play at least a year and he would have to make a big impact with us to go to the next level. Him going pro means he helped us a lot. In fact, if Jordan and Lawrence come next year and Jordan ends up being a 1 and done (meaning he was a great player) then it probably means we are either ranked or made the tourney. You know Harrison will be good, assuming Jordan is 1 and done he is good, Sampson will likely get much better, and if Lawrence proved to be worthy of his ranking he will be great. The way I see it, our true competitive window is 1 or 2 more years likely 1 more after this one. Next year is when Harrison is an upperclassmen, Sampson will be a soph, Garrett, Pointer, Greene will be juniors, Gift will be a senior(?), and if we get Lawrence and Jordan that means that even if they play 1 year for us, it's at our peak anyway so it doesn't really matter. This is all assuming Harrison leaves after next year. If he stays 4 years we have the chance to have Harrison as a senior, Sampson as a junior, Lawrence and Jordan as sophs, Garrett, Pointer, Greene as seniors, Obekpa as a junior, etc.

The latter scenario is our best chance of being a top 25 team IMO.

He doesn't necessarily have to make a big impact with us (when it comes to 'wins' and 'losses') or be great to make the jump after one season. That is a misnomer.

I can name two players who didn't quite make a big impact with St. John's (as, far as wins being concerned) and wasn't what I would consider "great" when they left. They were certainly good, but not great.... Omar Cook and Moe Harkless.

Once again, I'll worry about such at a later time, if we were to land Jordan.

I am all for trying to get the most talented players we can, and i think Jordan and Lawrence fit that bill- but with the backlog of guards/wings- do you guys feel we should be trying to target purely Bigs? I know Lavin likes the athletic/flex player, but with a formidable inside presence offensively, we would have the makings of being a balanced solid team.

I know many are up in the air on Branch and the view on Phil is that he shouldn't be dribbling the ball whatsoever but looking at next year, again assuming no one makes a jump, Phil/Harrison/Branch/Felix/Dom/Hooper/Marco and the guards/wings. Chris/Jakarr/Jones/Gift/Garrett(cause he plays his best scrapping for rebounds). Would think we would want to get bigger thats all.

All for hoping we get Jordan, but as this year has shown- a solid offensive presence in the middle couldnt hurt. And in the Lawrence interview- he states he could play the 2-4, but sees himself as a SF.

You make a good pt. But ,it would be hard to turn away a 6 10 talent like Lawrence ,even though he is thin.

Isaiah Ausrin is 7'1 and weighs 220 with five pair of socks. He will be the #1 pick in the NBA draft. It is not weight...it is about talent.

oh absolutely- I would have any 5-star recruit wear the red and white (and unfortunate black lol), but just thought we would try and target bigger bodies give the backlog of guards/wings. Do we have a true point guard...? We shall see with Branch, i certainly think he is capable and will def be here another 2 years. Greene, even though some (probably all) disagree- is an ok backup and a solid off-ball guy.

Just was hope we would see taller bodies inscope, but guess we have to work with whats left out there, and would certainly be happy with a Jordan/Lawrence combo.

Austin will be a lottery pick, not #1.

I guess I'm the only one here holding out hope that Christian Jones can develop to be a decent Big East PF, even at 6'7.

I wish this kid got minutes. Those games where Jakarr can't get it together, I sit there and hope that CJ gets his number called but it never happens. If we happen to land Lawrence and Jakarr stays, it buries him even further on the bench.

What in the world happened? CJ started the year off fine. He was the first option when games started and was the only one who could post up. He had a couple of mistakes in Charleston and then he was relegated to the doghouse. Tis kid has solid size and our only option in the post which are critical during BE play. It frustrates me so much to see him on the bench.

I haven't seen him in person, but my gut tells me he's 6'8" and people like Zagoria keep inflating his height with each article.

Hard to find a good mixtape of him- if anyone has one please post. Seen the one from that Kline invitational, but one would think there would be more out there if he is labeled a 5star recruit.

Ha realized i asked for a Lawrence tape on the Jordan thread- will go elsewhere for that info

Austin will quickly move up to the top 3 picks by June and I would not be surprised if he is not picked #1 by then. One of the best shooting 7 footers I have ever seen. Not a pure center and will see a lot of forward action in the NBA.

I'm convinced Lavin will only recruit combo bigs. We're not going to see a true big man I don't think.
He wants guys who can run the floor. I think we're more likely to see guys like Sanchez and Gift. 6'8 with a little muscle.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, like '72 says .. it's about talent.

Touche.
Fair point Moose. Down the road he may be looking at true centers. It could be coach just felt like we didn't get in early enough to have a good chance with anybody last year, and this years a weak class with big men.
I don't know. We'll have to see.

Or similarly it's not necessarily about height but talent ala Drew Brees
