I saw the sweater and guessed it was not just a coincidence. Nice move, like K State coach did this as well.Agreed - very nice gesture. Holtmann has always seemed like a good coach and a nice guy.
I don't think Bryant's coach did this???

If all Big East coaches do this at our home games it would be great. All the stories from the glory days of the big east all have Looie at the center of this great fraternity of Big East coaches. On the court (and recruiting trails) fierce competitors, but off the court strong relationships and good friendships. No one represented this better than Coach C.that would be real cool if other coaches come into CA and do the same this year
Yes, especially in Italian restaurants after closing. It occurred to me that our current coach, Rick, is also a relationship guy who makes friends wherever he goes.

Sonny played -- I should say "starred" -- for Looie for all of his then-three years of eligibility. Also, George Johnson was hands-down better than Shelton Jones.Sonny Dove was the star of the Redmen during the 1965/1966 season. Redken,Sonny played -- I should say "starred" -- for Looie for all of his then-three years of eligibility.
NCJohnnie, you are correct.Redken,
Pretty sure that Sonny’s sophomore year was Lapchicks last as head coach although Louie was the assistant coach. Think he played two years for Louie as head coach.
I stand corrected -- and red-faced.Redken,

No reason to be red faced my friend. The only reason I remember it so well is Doves soph year was my first year following the Johnnies and I remember it was Lapchicks swan song yearI stand corrected -- and red-faced.
My senior year of high school, 1965. Coach Lapchick's last game was the NIT championship ahen we beat Villanova with Jim Washington, Bill Melchionni, and George Leftwich. St Johns had Jerry Houston, the McIntyre brothers and Sonny Dove. I was there in the old Madison Square Garden on 50th Street.Redken,
