Rick’s Targets

Career stats vs Posh
Needed a kid and I am sure Rick was more comfortable with his kid. But when people start that we finally got a guard that can shoot thing or start bashing Posh, stats are similar.
Will be a decent pickup but must get another combo guard to go with him.
But Posh could never average 16 in the MAAC..

If you think Jenkins is a shooter you are in for a rude awakening. He has a career 39.9% FG % and shot 24.3% and 23.3% from three before last year.
I think Larry was making the exact point you’re making.

How about it looks like he’s turned himself into a capable shooter? Not unheard of and he did have a year in between pacific and Iona.

Assists gotta count towards “offensive player” right?

I guess, though 3.2 to 4.9 is not a shocking difference. Both seem to be combo guards based on stats. Jenkins took almost 20% more shots than Clayton as well though he did play in 3 more games. The difference in shooting %s is glaring, in that Clayton's were so good. If RP brings Jenkins, Slazynski and Davis with him at least he has a foundation started so let's get it done.

We are a fam-ill-will-ly for sure. Lol.
Let's lighten this up a bit, guys.
Seems wa-ay too early for a doomsday view of next season.
This is a marathon---not a sprint.
Rick will get us there.
Meanwhile, realize how much Jenkins improved under Rick, enjoy Daniss' commitment, and realize how many other guys will improve under Rick.
I'm in.

4.9 to 3.2 is more than a 33% increase. Plus averaging 5 assists is a number rarely reached by non points in college. Not that I think Jenkins is a pure point but the fact he averaged 5 while playing with another capable guard is impressive. If your gonna say PPG is a big advantage for Clayton, then this is a bigger advantage in the opposite direction. Shooting % no question in WC favor.

I don’t really disagree with you. I had said Clayton was the better player but a lot of that was based on 2 full years left. I don’t think the difference is huge.

Actually that was Clayton by all metrics (ppg, all shooting %s in a big way) but still nice to have him aboard.
Not a metric statement on my part but identifying the player that Rick Pitino wanted as HIS main offensive player.
Yes, both were comparable but ...
Daniss took 321 two point shots for the season.
Walter took 233 for the season.
Walter shot .47 % on 2 point shots.
Daniss shot .45 % on 2 point shots.
Walter scored more on drives (a la Posh) while Daniss shot more from the field.
Walter was the primary ball handler and had 3.2 assists per game while Daniss played off the ball more and had 5 assists per game.
Both are excellent defenders and ironically Walter was the better 3 point shooter (.43 to .36).
We lose nothing versus who we lost and get a very mature player.
Would have taken either one.

I took it as a knock on Posh, but your interpretation makes more sense.

I think 36% out of Jenkins next year is unlikely. I’d signed for 31% right now. Defense and driving is what where he’ll contribute most.

Watched at least 8 Iona games this year mostly to follow Rick. That is why I made a picture I took of him at Hofstra (a game he lost) as my icon.
Daniss Jenkins has a quick release on his shot as compared to Posh or Wusu who often got the ball shoved back down on them by a defender.

The fact that you didn't provide their most recent year, or mention that Jenkins sat out a year before playing for Iona, just confirms you're looking for attention. If anything it's very reassuring how much he improved under Pitino.

he got didn’t he?
