Rick’s Targets

I’d love to see Ricky P land Brady Dunlap. He has good things to say about us. I know he seems like a no brainer for nova etc, but I’m hoping Rick P’s pedigree, and immediate playing time and chance to develop under a great wins one or two of these big battles for us. We shall see. Would like a few freshmen to bring along and develop.
With Dunlap’s dad being an ex coach he will steer him in the right direction no doubt. I definitely think Pitino has that working in his favor there.

Clayton was main guy, takes a lot of pressure off. Need another solid guard to go with.

So Clayton being the main guy helped Jenkins with his FT% and win the MAAC MVP. Got it.

Again, it's silly to complain about getting the second best player on a team that finished 31 spots ahead of us in the NET, especially someone who has been with Pitino for 2 years.

One of the things I really like about Daniss' game is how comfortable he is finishing with both hands and on both sides of the basket. I spoke to some Iona fans / media who raved about his mid range game, and how he operates with the pick and roll. Which should bode well for SJU with Soriano. Spoke highly about him in transition and most of all noted he's more than just an offensive point guard, values defense and has a long wingspan for his height.

Very excited for this first new addition.

Wow, I forget some of you probably never shot a basketball let alone played organized ball.
Defense geared on Clayton made it easier on everyone else, pretty simplistic and common situation.

IMO Clayton game definitely plays against higher comp. Watching Jenkins I didn’t feel with 100% certainty it would. I am not Rick Pitino just stating my opinion. Not saying he isn’t a BE player, just saying Not sure he is too 3 player on good BE team.

Only advantage I have over some on here is I actually saw the kid play more than once. Which if given lie detector test I bet most on here couldn’t say.

Try rereading my post. It was primarily about his FT%, which has nothing to do with Clayton. It also was about how strong he finished the season, including winning the MAAC MVP. I'm sure Pitino will get another guard so Jenkins doesn't have 3 guys on him.

I was responding to his scoring part of your post. Guards should shoot a decent FT % something our guards weren’t great at I agree.
My original response was simply he is not Clayton in case some thought we were getting same player.

I think it bodes well both that his dad seems to be a big proponent of Pitino and he’s also close with Massielo. Like I said, piece by piece we will build this. This kid the type we can build around. I’m not ready to concede this to Nova just because. We will land our fair share of these types now, and it may take some time but lots of kids will
See the merits of the coach, league and PT available to play their style of game under Pitino.

Where did you play?

I've stated on here it was disappointing that we didn't get Clayton, but that was a couple days ago and we need to move on. It's a very positive sign that Pitino's next best player decided to follow him here, and he's already better than any of last year's Johnnies in one area.

I agree that Clayton was the bigger pick up, but if Jenkins played as well early/middle of the season as he did late in the season then he probably would've been one of the most sought after players in the portal. That, combined with him knowing Pitino's system and rules makes this a really important addition. Again, no reason to be negative about this news, I'm thrilled he's joining.

Just listing the guards / wings we've been most linked to but a combo of Jenkins Thomasson, Ryan, Slazinzki, Davis, Dunlap, Meyer, Mahoney, Conway, would seem a good mix of talent for Rick to choose from and develop.
Add Ledlum or Osmani for the frontcourt with Joel (plus Drissa / Mohamed) and I think---having had a late start---we would have a competitive team next season.
All up to Rick of course.

Again, I don't hear anyone complaining. But everyone who is glad STJ got Jenkins over Clayton clap your hands.

Crickets.

That team gives CMA his first losing record. Potential bubble team with RP. That's why STJ is lucky to have him.

NOW THIS SEEMS PROMISING, agree?

St. John’s: “Coach Massielo and I have bonded over the phone after they came to see me workout a couple weeks ago. I got on the phone with Coach Pitino and he offered me a scholarship. St. John’s has a rich basketball history as well as coach Pitino. He is a winner and that’s what I want to do. I’m looking forward to the 22nd for a visit.”
