Rick’s Targets

All joking aside looks bad for Posh and Pitino both if Posh comes back.
I guess can spin it that Rick always wanted him but he wanted to explore his options first….
"Regarding Posh, there were some things that I wanted to see improve before having him back. To his credit, he did everything I asked and more. We look forward to welcoming back one of the best defensive guards in the country."

Now that I have been proven right once again, I will attempt to use my powers in a positive way.
Strategy was flawed from the beginning but let’s move on.

Storr ship has sailed to better destinations but need to re-recruit Posh and Gardner.
Of the two Posh is more realistic. After get Posh back you can’t fall into the trap every other ST John’s coach has fallen into. Can’t chase talent and sign best available even if not a fit. Go after 2nd and 3rd tier kids that fit into what you are trying to do. Keep building that way and if have success hopefully the more talented kids will come.

Despite what he indicated at press conference there are no quick fixes here.
“Strategy was flawed from the beginning” is a crazy thing to write before seeing Pitino’s final roster. You don’t think Pitino knows exactly what he wants? How many teams have you led to the Final Four?

I really don't see where else you can go right now. Otherwise, it's going to be a long season in 23-24.

I have confidence that Pitino will coach up whatever players are here, but if they're all walk-on caliber, how many wins will that mean, anyway? Taking a 5 win talent to 8 wins? Not exciting.
Are we not jumping way ahead? Of course frustrating as we want new players NOW… but it’s weeks not months since our new staff took charge.
Blessings

Reading the posts expressing anguish over the lack of recruits or transfers in all of a few weeks since Pitino's hire makes me question how much damage has been done to the psyche of some posters. I am reminded of the scene in The Ten Commandments when the former task master and the Pharoah's personal rat Dathan has all but convinced the Hebrews that they were better off as slaves under the Pharoah, leading to a mutiny and an attempt at a human sacrifice. I am waiting for a few posters, who seem to be the board's version of Edward G. Robinson, to declare that we were better off under Anderson because he would have a full roster next season.

St. John's made a remarkable hire-one I thought they didn't have the guts to make. Pitino made it clear early on that he was cleaning house because the culture here stunk. I am also not naive enough to believe that any coach can undo decades of a mismanaged basketball program in a year, let alone 3 weeks. With the portal, improvement can happen quickly, but when you start near the bottom, improvement may only mean fostering a winning culture at a program devoid of anything close for many years. I had enough of watching the hideous experiment that was St. John's basketball nearly every year P.L (post Looie). Have a little patience guys, and a little faith too.

Larry, I agree that the early returns look good for your view but, seems to me, it's too early to call in either direction.
The Portal is still growing, a few H S. recruits (1 of whom is ranked #48, another #149) are slated to visit, as are some transfers, and Rick & staff are working the lines.
Yeah, the roster's empty and few of us wanted it this extreme but it is what it is.
Was it 'fit', 'culture', academics, PT, NIL-$$'s---yeah, probably a mix of that.
But Rick has just begun to rebuild with two straight 'dead periods' not helping.
La pazienza 'e santa (Patience is holy), an old Italian proverb, sure the heck applies here, imo.

But it’s been stated coach Pitino is involved with players we don’t even know about yet. So, I’m taking a step back and waiting to see what actually happens. It’s troubling if Clayton chooses Florida, but I’m hoping it will a be explained in the end. I don’t see why he’d rather play there than in the top conference, for a top coach. If he pops for Florida, it’s next man up. Luckily there must be at least 15 guards we could sign.
That’s very fair. I just see everyone else in the big east making moves and I see us with a 2 (or 3) man roster and i have to scratch my head.

If your Posh and you know he thought he could recruit over you are you ok with that?

"I don't see a shooting guard here. General public just needs to believe the plan was for us to play together.

"Plus have I even released a list? My plan was to come back the whole time. I love it here and there is no better feeling than winning in front of my family and for my hometown."

I can do this all day. 😁

This is not Kentucky or Louisville.
Need different mindset. We are basically a mid major in a major conference.
Can you please take a chill pill. Your regurgitating the same stuff on every thread.

Wow week three including a dead period now another one and people are like this. Again that is why I posted in jest is Rick the right guy thread cause some children in here are thinking the world is over. When Jarvis left we had no players he'll even a walk on was getting major playing time if I recall . That was under norms watch. Does the name Phil Missere ring a bell! Look back at the 2004-2005 squad and then breathe in and out. That was bad ! This isn't norm this is Rick fng pitino . Relax guys some have short memories.

Hard to believe he continues to say he likes the hire and RP is the best, yada yada yada. 🤷‍♂️

Yes some high major talent will still enter the portal over the next 2+ weeks. Once rosters start to come together with the early “portal transfers”.
And we will face the same competition as we have so far. What leads you to believe we will fare better? Time to lower expectations for recruits?
