Rick’s Targets

For the guys with sources, how many impact unannounced players (in general) are still going to be entering the portal? A lot? The deadline, FYI, is May 11 -- so still a month to go.

Pitino is going to put a Team on the Court in November that will be ready to compete in the BE . There should not be any doubt about that . Everything up to now , suggests we will get the Iona Twosome very soon . Why would the 2 players come in on the same day , if they were remotely looking to land elsewhere . Rick has already said his Iona Twins can play in any league . He’s Coached them for a few years , they know and he knows what they can do . None of us know with any certainty about the other issues that Pitino found unacceptable about CMA ‘s roster , excluding Soriano and Traore. And , we don’t know the Players that Rick sent packing . Maybe for non Court issues ..

Even the naysayers have to acknowledge that Pitino knows what he’s doing . Plus , Clayton Jr and Jenkins won’t miss a beat in playing Rick’s style . Recall too, these 2 basically held their own vs UCOnn and weren’t outplayed at all . It was Sanogo, Clingan , etc that did Iona in ….
Very well stayed - your remarks are sly and even slick - just need to allow this 2023 season to play itself out… no one knows NOW what will transpire by the THEN, Autumn etc. SJU will not sink or swim based upon Clayton & Jenkins a mere 2 of many kids in HS and especially the portal.
All the best!

Just didn’t realize how hard it will be here, or was overconfident.
Or both, the big east is by far the best conference top to bottom. You can’t rely on past laurels or a fat contract to be competitive. And if you’re going to start by blowing things up it would be best to have reinforcements in place.

But it’s been stated coach Pitino is involved with players we don’t even know about yet. So, I’m taking a step back and waiting to see what actually happens. It’s troubling if Clayton chooses Florida, but I’m hoping it will a be explained in the end. I don’t see why he’d rather play there than in the top conference, for a top coach. If he pops for Florida, it’s next man up. Luckily there must be at least 15 guards we could sign.

Home is Home after all!

I just hope that Posh is first in committing.

He deserves it and we equally deserve him

We are getting back 4star talent and 5 star heart.
CRP attracts and perfects.
Johnnie jubilee is just around the corner.

Only 4 stars and up will be accepted !!!
All joking aside looks bad for Posh and Pitino both if Posh comes back.
I guess can spin it that Rick always wanted him but he wanted to explore his options first….

when he announced he did say something like " with option to return " so it wouldn't look that bad

Seems to me, we're getting way over the skis of pessimism. Yes, losing Clayton is a setback from Plan A, but be sure Pitino is moving on from this, gearing up for a Plan B guard as good as Clayton would've been.
Just the way the man is made.
He did not come here to fail, for St. John's to be the 'BUT' on his career.
Trust 'that'.

I really don't see where else you can go right now. Otherwise, it's going to be a long season in 23-24.

I have confidence that Pitino will coach up whatever players are here, but if they're all walk-on caliber, how many wins will that mean, anyway? Taking a 5 win talent to 8 wins? Not exciting.
So why couldn't he coach up some of last years players?

Now that I have been proven right once again, I will attempt to use my powers in a positive way.
Strategy was flawed from the beginning but let’s move on.

Storr ship has sailed to better destinations but need to re-recruit Posh and Gardner.
Of the two Posh is more realistic. After get Posh back you can’t fall into the trap every other ST John’s coach has fallen into. Can’t chase talent and sign best available even if not a fit. Go after 2nd and 3rd tier kids that fit into what you are trying to do. Keep building that way and if have success hopefully the more talented kids will come.

Despite what he indicated at press conference there are no quick fixes here.
