Rick’s Targets

Think came in 2nd to Dingle in Ivy MVP

Alleyne has been to three NCAA tournaments (scored 28 pts in one game), started three years in the ACC, and won a national championship while playing 18 mpg in the Big East. He has 92 combined career starts in ACC and Big East. What do you think he would have done in the Ivy?

Ledlum has 40 career starts in the Ivy League, and shot 29.4% from three on 4.9 attempts last year and 63.6% from the line. I would have liked to add him for his rebounding physical presence, but he’s not better than Alleyne.

We're also recruiting a different caliber of players than we're used to. We're going to whiff a lot because it's stiff competition. But, it also means we're in on a lot of quality guys and sometimes Plan B ends up being better than Plan A (e.g. Dingle over Clayton)
Agree. Mgbako was a special case . Originally a Dukie, he opted out there due to 2 of their better payers returning
As a HS Senior and prior to that , he was likely in the sights of Kansas , iU , etc long before Pitino came on board here .

In other words , these schools and others had likely been pursers of him , long before Rick got 1 chance to recruit him . That’s my take on it .

He’s clearly a 1 and done player and just getting that 1 shot at him was unrealistic from day 1 . But , at least we got a serious look .

It remains to be seen if Woodson or Self can sharpen his skills better than Pitino .

It's a ridiculous take.

Here are the schools we've beaten out for our last three commits:
Glenn Taylor Jr. - Ohio State, Texas A&M, USC, Utah, Oklahoma State
Brady Dunlap's final 5 - St. John's, UNC, Villanova, Nebraska, Penn State
RJ Luis final 3 - St. John's, Texas A&M, Louisville.

Now it appears we're about to land one of the best players in the entire transfer portal. Dingle is better than Clayton by a mile. I'll take Luis and Taylor over Ledlum personally and love what Alleyne will bring to the table this year. Acting like Pitino is just out here whiffing is absurd.

Clayton and Dingle are very close IMO. I give the edge to Dingle this season, but I think Clayton has the better chance to play in the NBA.

Dingle is great. You can’t get hung up on the stats because the Ivy is just an ok league, but he can do it all. He’s great in pick and roll, he can shoot from deep off the bounce (which is rare) and he can get in the lane to finish or pull-up. He is the perfect complement to Alleyne and Jenkins.

Him and Joel will be insane together in pick and roll.

Assuming we get Dingle - would you start Dingle, Jenkins, Alleyne and go small at the 4 with Luis? Taylor started a lot last season too. We could also go big up front depending on this last scholarship. Lots of versatility and rotation possibilities.

IMHO and I know we have some versatile players that can play Guard but don’t think there is a lot of depth (4) of strictly guards to start 3 of them. Taylor or Luis are almost like starting 3 guards. JMO

I see Coach Pitino adding a quality 4/5 before we hit the month of June

Spoke with the family..... :)
79, you have been a part of this Dingie recruitment since Day 1. I think most of the Board knows you have been , at least , our Champion in getting this young man to our School .

Not to minimize the Pitino and staff contributions of course but , you have had the contacts and relationship with Jordan and Family .
We owe you a big thanks from nearly this entire Board .

Woodson and Self (especially) are successful coaches who will know how to make Mgbako a better player.

Joel gives a lot of flexibility for who we play at the 4. As the roster stands now, my guess is a healthy Slazinski would get the bulk of the starts early. This will be his third year in the defense and Luis will have a lot to learn.

Alleyne definitely starts at the 3 with his shooting ability and need to have two ball-handlers alongside him.

Slazinski will also pull defenders away from the paint as he can make shots behind the arc.
