Ricardo Gathers, PF - BAYLOR

Hello Johnnie fans! I'm new to the forum...

...And I just checked out some YouTube on Gathers. OMG He was beasting like Charles Barkley vs. Angola

I'm not sure how much this person is in the loop, but he speaks like he's really has a grip of things. It wouldn't be good, if he ends up elsewhere. I'd be irked, if he ended up with G'town.

Nevertheless, I still feel we're definitely one of, if not, still the leader.

North Carolina State is recruiting 2012 PF Ricardo Gathers hardest. Georgetown recently offered and is showing strong interest as well

Is it true that Duke is looking at Gathers? There were something on twitter yesterday?

Per Rivals....

It was nothing short of a heavyweight battle with Ricardo Gathers leading his Reserve (La.) Riverside team against Tony Parker and his Miller Grove crew. Riverside got up big early and held on with Gathers sealing the deal.

Parker struggled early on and a dialed-in Riverside squad jumped out to a 20-7 lead after a Gathers' three-pointer to end the first quarter. Parker settled down in the second quarter, Miller Grove began its gradual chipping away at Riverside's lead.

Eventually Miller Grove, playing without the fouled-out Parker on the floor, hit a three-pointer to take a one point lead with one minute remaining in the game.

Gathers proceeded to put the finishing touch on his dominating performance. On the ensuing possession he had the assist on Riverside's game-winning shot. Then he contested a driving shot and grabbed a rebound in traffic where he was fouled. He made the frontend of a one and one and then grabbed the final rebound of the game.

End result - Riverside 59, Miller Grove 55.

Gathers' 19 points and 15 rebounds don't do justice to his full impact on the game. Choose your metaphor- Rock of Gibraltar, Spartacus, Samson with hair.

Gathers' simply brings a man's game and a man's approach to a court full of teenagers. His skill set is expanding and his physicality and competitive desire is unmatched at this level.

Florida's Billy Donovan and St John's head coach Steve Lavin were on hand to watch Gathers' performance.

Parker by no means backed away from the battle. He had an impressive six blocks and scored 14 points to go with six rebounds.

But as the game wore on, Gathers just had more explosiveness off the floor and easily matched Parker's strength. Parker's 6-of-21 shooting from the field provides evidence of his dilemma. Gathers was slightly better from the field, hitting 8-of-19 shots.

Sounds great to me.
Hopefully we can get Gatheres to re-commit to SJU as he is the player we really need.

Now, I’m thinking outside the box,” Gathers said. “Now I’m looking ahead. I’m trying to go big now with [programs like Duke, Georgetown, Kentucky].

Wow this doesnt sound good..We need this guy badly if not this downard spiral may continue for us..

Link?

I may can see Duke and Kentucky, but to lump G'town in the class with those two.... Quite frankly, I can see us being one of those "big programs" with another stellar recruiting class. I'm also not fond of that particular quote.

Thanks!

Here is the piece.... Ricardo gathers thoughts at City of Palms

An interesting quote, which I've been thinking has been the case.... His brother is gonna be in control of his recruiting this time around. Similiar to the "uncle" who always wanna take control of the basketball or football playing nephew.

For the programs that are recruiting Gathers, many are finding out that talking to him isn’t easy. This time around his brother is handling most of the conversations while he focuses on his season. “I really haven’t spoke to many schools since the decommitment.” Gathers talked to Scott Drew and he’s spoken with Billy Donovan but has yet to converse with Mike Krzyzewski.

I'd loved to get a recommitment from Gathers, but I'm not banking on it.

Yeah, but Gathers left it at the fact that he still has SJU at the top of his list and wants to concentrate on the season. I just think his brother might be handling it until the spring when Gathers can re-assess and make a decision. It isn't like Gathers is out visiting these schools etc.

I have no doubt that when spring rolls around, Ricardo will be handling his own recruitment like he did prior. Gathers de-committed to "make sure" that leaving Louisiana was the right thing, and he's not personally even entertaining these other schools. I read that as better news than some might be taking it. If Lavin comes back to coaching for the Big East schedule and is healthy, I think we'll be in good shape with Gathers. You never know with these kids though.

 Marcus,

Admire your steely optimism, but am told by some AAU folks in Fort Myers at the tourney that Ricardo has put us in the rear view mirror. Hope they are wrong.

I hope they are wrong, as well, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit. There are occasions where players recommit to a school they reneged on earlier. On many other occasions, that isn't the case.

Not to mention, I'm a bit wary of his sibling who is in command of his recruitment now. I still have some hope because he did make the journey to NYC to watch us play Texas A&M in November. Hopefully, we're still his landing spot.

I've doubted his coming here ever since the sh-t hit the fan (nonqualifiers, BE deteriorating, decommitments, Lavin's slow recovery) and from what I've been seeing lately, I'm now convinced we'll never see him here. Hope I'm wrong.

If we have some hope it would lie in Moe, Deangelo and Nate Blue who are all very tight with Ricardo.
