Ricardo Gathers, PF - BAYLOR

LSU is still the school of Bob Pettit, Pistol Pete, Shaq, Chris Jackson, Big Baby etc. They've also been to two FFs since STJ's last. They ought to be able to attract bigger names.
Being 2nd fiddle at Fla hasn't forced Billy D out.

The problem with your hypothesis is that you assume Billy D was Billy D before Florida. Uh he was at Marshall for what 2-3 years with nothing major. He did not get to be Billy D UNTIL he made at Florida.

If LSU finds their Billy D fine, chances are though it will be someone who is NOT established yet at least at the BCS level.

Ships sail but return to port. Sampson can play with gathers as pair of forwards. Not saying will happen but Marillac says no Jakarr if we had Gathers. Conjecture or heard it from horse's mouth?

I can't remember when it all went down, but Sampson or Gathers probably thought they'd be at the 5 or losing time to the other because no one expected Moe to be one-and-done and free up a spot on the front line.

I won't hold my breath, but a Sampson/Chandler/Gathers frontcourt would be insane.

The problem with that, though is that if someone's palms got greased like some of us think, it's hard to decommit from the boosters who did the greasing.

No, it makes it easier to decommit since boosters can't complain or holler about the money they never should have given you in the first place. Trust me, it has happened before.

Per Dave Telep (ESPN).... He's having a chat at 3pm.

Thanks for all your questions. WE are excited about the two big announcements tonight and there is news breaking about Ricardo Gathers -- One piece of news coming out Baylor land is regarding Ricardo Gathers. I spoke with his brother this afternoon and he indicated Ricardo would not sign this week. They remain committed to the Bears but would like to see what happens with potential sanctions. With the LSU job open, I asked if they'd look at the Tigers but the timing isn't right and their preference is to wait and see what happens. As long as there are no post-season sanctions, Baylor has an excellent chance to retain his commitment. Now lets get to the questions.

We see who's still doing the talking.

Couple of tweets just published - Baylor claims they have received word that there will be no additional sanctions

If that is correct, guess that means Gathers will be heading there after all

I never really doubted that he would still remain committed to Baylor. I just felt Baylor's situation is newsworthy considering one of their 2012 kids (Gathers) was once a Johnnies-commit.

OTOH, we never know what other news could leak out and create an upheaval in Waco.

Penalties and I dont think this bothers Gathers camp.

Men's basketball

- The head men's basketball coach must be suspended from all coaching duties during the first two conference games of the 2012-13 season.

- One-year show-cause order for former assistant men's basketball coach, which prohibits any recruiting activity.

- Reduction of one scholarship (from 13 to 12) for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years.

- Reduction of five official visits (from 12 to 7) for the 2012-13 academic year.

- Reduction of 15 recruiting evaluation days (from 130 to 115) for the 2012-13 academic year.

Why does every other school's NCAA sanctions pale in comparison to the torture that they put us through?

According to Dave Telep, Gathers is not signing an LOI with Baylor. Needs to have his family review the sanctions.
Interesting!!!!!

This gives the NCAA more opportunity to closely inspect Baylor and uncover what just about everyone believes is happening there. The last thing Baylor wants is folks from the NCAA walking around.

Translation: Big brother wants them to sweeten the deal. :p

Telep said on the show tonight that he talked with Gather's brother and they will fill out the scholarship paperwork.. Is that essentially the LOI?

Apparently the NCAA accepting Baylor's self-imposed penalties which does not include a post-season ban was enough to convince Rico to stay committed.

No. It is for a parking permit for his new Mercedes. ;)
