Ricardo Gathers, PF - BAYLOR

I think this mess with the Big East Conference might play some part in all this along with Lavin's health. From what I've read Lavin should be fine and hopefully this Big East mess will sort itself out by Spring. If all goes well on those two fronts and the instability surrounding all of this is gone, I think Gathers, Sampson and Wood will be here. Pelle seems to be more of a wild card. If the Big East situation is still unresolved by then, other coaches will use that to lure these guys away from SJU. Although, even if that happens the setback will only be temporary as SJU and NYC still so much to offer and Lavin will regain his footing on the recruiting trail for 2013. But, I think it will affect the 2012 class if things don't stabilize.

Not buying the instability of Big East issue. It has really effected Providence's recuiting this year.

I think it has more to do with fickle 17 and 18 year olds.

Did Dunn sign his LOI? Last I heard only Ledo had.

They both signed.

Honestly, I'm particularly not buying the Big East issue either. It's what I consider to be a convenient excuse. It sounds legit, so most people aren't gonna question it. For the most part, it's used for convenience.

Pretty much.

I dont think the BE re-alignment is a big issue either. I have said before that if the BE holds these schools to the 27 month agreement, it will not be until 2013-14 that all this happens and many of the high end recruits will be in the NBA by then. In Gathers case, I just think he is re-weighing his options. He has until may and in the end I am hopeful he remains committed to sju. I hope he sees the direction this team is going and wants to be part of something that is going to be pretty special.

Who will they be playing against? Syracuse gone, Pitt gone. West Virginia gone, Louisville looking to leave, CT looking to leave. No school that has been sent an invite to join the Big East has accepted. They are not even discussing how to replace the lost basketball power schools (publically anyway). That was a big draw. The future might seem a little uncertain for people with offers from other top schools. I am sure the "others" who are "in their ear" are pointing that out.

Thanks for the video Mr. Dinkins. Man do I want Gathers-his inside strength would really help solidify our post.

No problem, Joe. Gathers would be the strongest player in the Big East. He also can put the ball on the floor. Grab Gathers, Wood and another quality big and the team next year will take off. The backcourt will eventually be one of the conference's better backcourts when by the time this season is over.

The frontcourt will have more depth AND talent with Harkless (who I love), GG, Gathers and someone like Obekpa. We could be scary good next season, if things fall into place.

For what its worth, I was told last night that Rico would be behind the bench this afternoon. I was also told that Lav's health was the primary concern in his decision making process. It sounds like he will be here next fall.

You add Amir, Rico and prolific scorer Wood to this core 6... Buckle up

He just tweeted/asked what time the game for SJU is tonight.

Not sure if he is in NYC or he plans on watching it at home.

Id feel perfectly good about adding Wood, Gathers and one more big guy of some type. Gathers did set everybody straight when he decommitted in saying that SJU was still his favorite school. And he just wanted to take time to be sure. All these games that SJU plays on TV certainly can't hurt us, as he can watch SJU almost every week.
I think he'll stay on board with Lavin back and healthy.

If we keep showing what we did for most of the game last night some of these highly competitive prospects have to be thinking, "These guys would be a lot of fun to play with and I'm just the kinda player they need to finish."

Gathers was in the building, sitting right near to the student section. We had a "We Want Gathers" chant. He laughed, smiled and waved to us.

Fantastic news. We had a good showing last day or two. We run an exciting style. Good to see Gathers still Has SJU front and center. Very happy to have him coming to games. His addition would mean a ton to this team next season.

Looks like a program changer or at least difference maker. I love football players with basketball skills. Could put us over the top next few years.

Isn't all peachy fine when a SJ commit de-commits and is at an MSG game a week later. I am sure watching the game with 15,000 empty seats made a bigger impression on him! This guy should have been locked up by November 13th!

I saw him at halftime in the hallway. He is a big dude. Just said hi to him and told him we really need him and his rebounding next year and he'd be great at the garden. Smiled and said thank. He seems like a really nice kid

I hope he is a "Camel Man"! LOL!
Oh, you are too young to remember that commercial!

I am still befuddled by his visit to NYC just days after decommiting! WTF is that about? It would have been one thing not sign an LOI until Spring and another to decommit. Same with Pelle just four weeks ago at MSG. Our recruiting has to close these deals more firmly and get some out of state kids at some Lutheran prep schools on Long Island to keep tabs on them....LOL! For 2012 our recruiting motto should be "Do-Over"!

Seeing him there I have a good feeling now with Lavin back on the sideline.

My guess is along the same lines as some of the other posters. Lavin not being on the sideline gave other coaches ( specifically LSU to get in his ear and use Lavins cancer against us.

He loves LSU football and was probably getting grief at games but their season ends not too far away. Maybe his family or some people want him close to home. He definitely loves Lavin.

Lavin back on the sidelines gets us back in the game and it's going to make any coaches using that against Lavin look like D-bags.

Lavin showing up today at that Prep thing I think is huge. I was really pumped when I heard that.

Gathers seems like a real good kid. Wherever he ends up I wish him well but I like our chances again. This kid is big and no one is going to be pushing him around at the garden.

He's going to come in and get 30 minutes a game with a team next year that can be really really good. LSU might not even have their coach next year

Seems like plenty of schools are trying to get involved....

Duke, Florida, NC State, Georgetown, LSU, Florida, UConn, USC and Colorado have all called '12 PF Ricardo Gathers since he decommited

I got a sense that Gathers really liked NYC. That's why I think we are still the favorite for him.
