Ricardo Gathers, PF - BAYLOR

Yes, he caught a lot of heat. I posted earlier that RG caught grief wherever he went. He attended some LSU games where his buddies were grilling him pretty good from the tweets many of us read. Add in a desperate TJ, his friends, family, and we can see why the bulletin boards of LSU started heating up with that talk. I just don't see RG going to LSU. They are far from turning it around. But if Johnson doesn't get the Pelphrey top 10 class for '12, he is donesky. LSU's board recently rejected the AD's request for a one year extension for Johnson. That means either win this year, or recruit like a madman this year. I think he has a better shot recruiting at all costs....

LSU "people" probably told him that even if LSU stinks this year, Johnson will be fired, and a new coach will be brought in. So he'll probably sit back and see who they hire, I assume they will go after a big name. They certainly have the boosters and the money to do so.

Someone posted this on the rivals main board. Gathers at LSU playing pick-up with pros like Kevin Durant, Glen Davis, Anthony Randolph and other guys. Probably LSU players. Gathers first appears at the 12:38 minute mark, guarding Durant.

You can rest assure those LSU guys are in his ear. I truly hope he still ends up at St. John's, but I'm certainly not counting on it.

LSU lost to Coastal Carolina or someone like that tonight

You beat me to the post. Yes lost by 8 to Coastal Carolina. Is that the team that had some sort of scandal last year and players were ineligible, when they were undefeated in conference? Anyways, I don't see how he goes to LSU, maybe somewhere else but not LSU. If Johnson stays they stink anyway, if they get a new coach, there not going to be good for a couple years.

Something I was thinking tonight, how do guys like Gathers, Sampson, etc, watch the games at MSG tonight with the electricity and not realize if they come to SJU they will have this anywhere from 10-12 times a year if not more, with a team that might be a Top 10 team every year they are here? Seems like the best gig in college bball to me but of course I am bias.

1). It seems to me that LSU is/was the biggest threat to steal Gathers. They are the ones I heard were in his ear. LSU is just terrible and got creamed by coastal Carolina. In addition, I have no idea why gathers would commit to the coach at LSU who has one of the hotter seats in college ball. I think he'll sign with SJU in the spring. I still thank Coastal Carolina for showing helping show their true potential.

2). Jakarr tweeted that he was watching the UK vs Kansas game, but all you heard all game prior and I this one as well as about how great it is playing in MSG.

I agree with you MCN, I made the last comment because I saw Jakaar's tweet. I think Gathers will sign with us in the spring as well, but it is uncomfortable knowing he decommitted. It is frustrating with all of the uncertainty we have, when we thought we had Pelle, Sampson and Garrett here, and Wood (anyone know if he signed his LOI or why he hasn't?) and Gathers for next year. Next year's team would be deep, big, athletic, and scary. To be honest, I don't think our kids are THAT far behind these teams I watched tonight other than lack of depth and size. Does anyone really think Kansas is that much better than us? They are ranked based on their name, some players, and players who were supposed to be there, but they did not impress me at all. Neither did Michigan State or Duke.

I know we had a few setbacks, but a couple of these guys and/or others will be here next year. One needs to look at potentially how good our team is right now only going about 6-7 deep. Then add another top 60 in Amir this December and 3-4 other top players for 2012 and it's downright scary how good we can be.

I watched a lot of teams already this season who we can play with and we're half of a roster and all rookies. The future is bright.

Regaarding Kansas, remember Nadir Tharpe?
Played only 9 scoreless minutes last night.
BTW, you're looking for STJ gear, correct?
Try the search engine.
I know it's been addressed in the some of the forums.

We should get Amir in December g-d willing and maybe Jerry Cummings. Next year we will return 100% of our scoring and rebounding. If we can add Wood, Pelle and Gathers to that group we can be exceptional. Lets keep our fingers crossed. No doubt staff is looking at a few different options right now.

North, Pelle recommitted late last night.

How can you say that Duke didn't impress? They had a bad game against Belmont, but it was also the first game of the season, and all teams are a little shaky at the beginning. Their other two games were blowouts. Yes, the Michigan State game was only a 5pt game, but Duke was also up by 17 at one point in the 2nd half. Are they as good as they have been? Probably not, but its still early yet....

I have a feeling that our game with them won't be pretty. They have 6 players 6'8 or taller, which will be a terrible match-up for us......they can also shoot the ball well from the outside, and so far our zone has been giving up a lot of wide open looks from the outside......

The only benefit is that in 2 of their 3 games they have only been going about 7 deep.

In the end, a loss by less than 20pts would be absolutely fantastic, and a more realistic outlook would be about a 30-40pt loss.....

Yeah I saw the story on here and Jungle but two posters typed re-committed. I know the D and R are close on the keyboard.....

I think this mess with the Big East Conference might play some part in all this along with Lavin's health. From what I've read Lavin should be fine and hopefully this Big East mess will sort itself out by Spring. If all goes well on those two fronts and the instability surrounding all of this is gone, I think Gathers, Sampson and Wood will be here. Pelle seems to be more of a wild card. If the Big East situation is still unresolved by then, other coaches will use that to lure these guys away from SJU. Although, even if that happens the setback will only be temporary as SJU and NYC still so much to offer and Lavin will regain his footing on the recruiting trail for 2013. But, I think it will affect the 2012 class if things don't stabilize.

Not buying the instability of Big East issue. It has really effected Providence's recuiting this year.

I think it has more to do with fickle 17 and 18 year olds.

Did Dunn sign his LOI? Last I heard only Ledo had.
