Revamped Big East

"The Mountain West Conference, Conference USA and the Big East Conference are weighing creating a nationwide football superconference of 28 to 32 teams, with the goal of gaining an automatic Bowl Championship Series qualifying bid, according to multiple reports."


I realize that desperate times call for desperate measures, but this is a little bit ridiculous. I don't see this ever coming together and working efficiently, but you never know......

It looks to be mostly geared towards football, so we would likely be left out.....

I think this is a fail safe to guard against future defections. It would negate the WV move and add flexibility to add Temple and Memphis in bigger markets for BB in addition to football. All these hayseed college presidents want to see is who is offering them the biggest "payoff". This scam in college sports will get more attention than some of these presidents are bargaining for. Maybe it is time for an "OCCUPY RUTGERS or WEST VIRGINIA" student protest? LOL!

 Big east needs to add Memphis, Temple and Houston ASAP regardless of what else happens in the conference. I'm 100% with Pitino on this. He's one of the few people speaking up about what is important to all of us that love big east basketball. All 3 schools have basketball tradition and can offer to the football side of the league. Memphis in a few years can be as good as Louisville.

I agree, LJSA. Quite frankly, I'm not too fond of UMASS joining the conference, either. This isn't the UMASS of Calipari. They've had some decent seasons, a handful of times, since the days of Cal. But, nothing that jumps at you.

I'd certainly target Xavier, Dayton, Butler and Memphis.

Exactly....we need strong universities with a large fan base to come in......Dayton, Xavier even Butler are a head coach away from being a weak colonial league team. The exception with Butler is their coach's long term commitment to the school.

I don't get what any of these schools have to do with the Colonial conf. who by the way has had a few teams way better then us for a decade now. It starts at the top, and X has shown a dedication to winning for many years. It's up to SJU to show continued dedication so that MSG rocks.

Funny we learn today that Louisville is trying to steal WVU's Big 12 bid despite Pitino's earlier rants.

It is clear that the Big East is not interested in an all basketball league. They want to maintain a football conference that is still viable in the BCS.

I'm not shocked at all by Louisville. If everyone is stabbing everyone in the back, you may as well stab, too. But I really think Pitino wants to stay in Big East.

The Big East clinging to the notion of football will turn the Big East into Conference USA. I honestly think Michele Bachmann or Herb Cain would make a better commissioner than Marinatto, and the two of them are dumb shits.

I think Louisville's a better fit, too, so I would have done the same thing if I was in Congress.

Actually, at this point, the Big 12 should take Rutgers, UConn, S. Florida, and WVa. as well so we can end the charade.

Ask Memphis to move football to the MAC opposite Temple to even out that conference, and invite both for all sports but football. Add Xavier, Dayton, Butler, Richmond, and two more of your favorite teams.

Time to get serious about a basketball focused conference that does not offer FBS. Teams like mighty rutgers that are orphaned in the non FBS Big East can join the MAC for football only as UMass and Temple are members for football only.
