Revamped Big East

Good to see our elected officials don't have anything else to worry about.

Rockefeller: "“The Big 12 picked WVU on the strength of its program -- period. Now the media reports that political games may upend that. That’s just flat wrong. I am doing and will do whatever it takes to get us back to the merits.”

"If these outrageous reports have any merit and especially if a United States Senator has done anything inappropriate or unethical to interfere with a decision that the Big 12 had already made then I believe that there should be an investigation in the U.S. Senate, and I will fight to get the truth. West Virginians and the American people deserve to know exactly what is going on and whether politics is interfering with our college sports." --West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin

This isn't the first time. Syracuse got left at the altar by the ACC in the first round of ACC raiding when the VA governor wouldn't let UVA vote for the Cuse and leave VA Tech behind in the BE. The ACC needed UVA's vote and so Cuse was dropped in favor of Va tech and got the spot alongside Miami.

I think Louisville's a better fit, too, so I would have done the same thing if I was in Congress.

Actually, at this point, the Big 12 should take Rutgers, UConn, S. Florida, and WVa. as well so we can end the charade.

Ask Memphis to move football to the MAC opposite Temple to even out that conference, and invite both for all sports but football. Add Xavier, Dayton, Butler, Richmond, and two more of your favorite teams.

I am waiting for the press release from the BE commish stating that the remaining six football members are committed to the future of the Big East. This time I want the statement NOTARIZED and signed by all the presidents and if they lie they should get whacked!

 Dick Weiss reporting on Facebook:

big east war. w va cancels press confernce.speculation big 12 favors ville instead. reports out of nyc indicdate senate minority leader mitch mc connell from ky called good friend and former senate colleague ok pres david boren to get cards involved.

I think you meant on his Daily News blog. Dick is no longer on Facebook, I believe.

I had more faith in Norm closing on Syl Landesberg.

Boise State would be nuts to make a strong commitment to the BEast until it knows what other schools will be in the football conference. Since each and every FBS school in the BEast is attempting to flee the BEast FBS leftovers will not be known until the ACC, SEC, Big 12, and Big Ten have picked over the remains of the BEast.

If the Big East presidents have to take a final vote on expansion I think some will have to shit or get off the pot in the next week or so because if the football schools balk, they should walk and let the conference move forward with new members.

There are going to be some very red faces with egg on their faces for the next two seasons because the conference will not seemingly let any member leave before the 27 month exit period. That is two seasons of bad blood with the departing schools being members non grata at every basketball game. Playing in a conference with no real representation for two years is embarrassing to the departing schools. It will also make for great television next year.

Since the only damaging loss BCS-wise is UWV, I think Boise is more concerned with seeing Air Force, SMU, Houston, Memphis in the west than what will happen east of the Mississippi where I think there will still be a Uconn, USF, UCF, Rutgers and now likely Temple and ECU for football with a stronger possibility of adding Navy and Army. This old Big East dog just refuses to die!

Hey, you never know, you may eventually get a Christian Conference......I do not want to say Catholic since most of the players seem to be from Protestant denominations! LOL!!!

It takes a vote of 80% of the membership to amend the bylaws or admit a new all sport member.

The ultimatum you suggest has been rejected time and again as evidenced by the fact that the BEast cannot even pass a non contingent amendment to the bylaws to raise the $5M exit fee.

The reported increased exit fee to $10M is conditioned upon certain events occurring which, with the passage of time appear less likely to happen.

The reality is that the BEast is at the bottom of the BCS food chain and all of its FBS schools will bail if the opportunity arises; therefor none of the FBS schools will agree to the increased exit fee; therefor no football with gravitas will join the BEast until they know what FBS schools they will be paired with - - it is a destructive cycle.

My continued recommendation is for the BEast to drop FBS football and any orphaned BEast FBS school can play as a football Independent or seek membership in the MAC or like conference for football only.
___________

p.s. it is amazing how fast the best basketball conference in the country unravelled.

All they need is for 11 of 14 members to vote yes to the new schools. Who are the three schools that will block expansion?

That's great!!!!!

.....and look what happened to both Norm and Syl!!
Karma is a MOFKR! I am hoping the same for all the traitors!

all the big east footballers can do now is merge as has been "reported" and dare the four conference BCS powers to eliminate a 32 team conference from bowl consideration.

that should serve as a model for a basketball mega-conference to keep the big east on top.

unfortunately, this won't happen because the big east leadership is weaker or as non-existant as the occupy wall streeters...with the same prospects of enacting change.

At this point, John Marinatto = Baghdad Bob.

I was thinking something like being the Ceo of Eastman Kodak just watching things slip by but I like the Baghdad Bob comparison better

How pathetic that elected US Senators are getting involved in this fiasco. They are, in reality, stamping their approval on the University presidents money grab. This country has real problems and that is where their focus should be. Occupy Wall Street spreads everyday while these buffoons worry about war chests for re election and status quo for lobbyists. Yep "more of the same" good verbiage for all our ills, including the "Big East".

Not quite accurate as for watching things slip by, Kodak invented digital photography knowing it would dissolve film. Never the less technology ruled and it changed the world.
