Revamped Big East

Why would ND stay in the basketball only league? and not move to another conference for all non FB sports?

What league do you propose? We're the only major conference that let them pull their all-sports-but-football shtick.

maybe Big 12 if they accept. I just dont see how ND will want to stay in this new weak Big East. and do the basketball only schools have enough teams to even have a league for some sports that ND plays?

If the league dwindles down to the eight basketball teams, they'll obviously invite more teams.

It's not about just throwing a conference together. It's about throwing a conference together that can maintain a BCS bid. Without WVU that will not happen. They are far and away the Big East's best football team. When this becomes official UConn and Rutgers will be gone by the end of the week. You can throw all the service academies and Conference USA schools at the Big East that you want but when it's all said and done Big East football is dead. It's really time to move on. I just want a basketball only conference that keeps the Big East name.

A league under the Big East name that had BYU and Boise in it would keep its BCS bid.

But what about sports like baseball, and lacrosse where all the schools dont field a team.
Baseball and Lacrosse have only 5 BB only schools

Time to stop the bleeding -- UCONN and RUTGERS will eventually now. Let's go back to a basketball only league.

We need a presence in New England e.g. -- UMASS, NorthEastern or BU

NEW 10 Team Conference:

DePaul
G.Town
Marq
N.D.
Prov.
S. Hall
St. John's
Nova
Butler
New England Team

Screw Notre Dame!! Geno Auriemma is right when he said that ND could have prevented all this from happeneing to the Big East a long time ago if they would have played football. BC, Miami and Va Tech would have never left and you could still have invited Louisville, Cincinnati and TCU and then really had a super conference. But, their reluctance to support the Big East wholeheartedly in all sports is what caused this mess.

Come on, guys. BU does not belong in any conference under the Big East name

I agree, LJSA. Quite frankly, I'm not too fond of UMASS joining the conference, either. This isn't the UMASS of Calipari. They've had some decent seasons, a handful of times, since the days of Cal. But, nothing that jumps at you.

I'd certainly target Xavier, Dayton, Butler and Memphis.

UMASS is dying to get in.
Huge alumni base and the only school in Massachusetts that even cares about hoop.

All the speculation and suggestions here are intersting for sure; unfortunately the BE hierarchy is doing the same thing, just conjecture and speculation. Nero fiddles while....................as with many here I am a long time BE fan and watching the league's demise is sad because it was so preventable; maybe it still is but the clowns in Providence don't capable of running a decent biddy league.

Agree 100%. Plus, as far as the UCONN, Rutgers, Louisvilleand Cincy exits being discussed are concerned, someone has to want them first. Right now, it's not clear that anyone does.

If I am not mistaken, I thought the Big East ADs voted against the ESPN deal. I didn't think the commissioner could accept the deal without agreement from the schools.

You are correct. SH, ND and Gtown voted it down.

Exactly....we need strong universities with a large fan base to come in......Dayton, Xavier even Butler are a head coach away from being a weak colonial league team. The exception with Butler is their coach's long term commitment to the school.

Yeah, Xavier is dead when Mack leaves, just like they said about Sean Miller before him and Thad Matta before him and Skip Prosser before him and Pete Gillen before him. Maybe you want to take that back. Xavier is a basketball school End of story.

Dayton is a basketball town and Butler is a basketball story. With the increased exposure and revenue of major conference hoops they'd do just fine in the short and long term.

What makes you think they would want to come to a basketball conference where it will be hard to win?

Xavier has gotten out of the first round of the NCAA's 7 of the last 10 years with 2 sweet sixteens and 2 elite eights. What make YOU think they're afraid of competition? PS They're the #15 team in the country this year in the pre season coaches poll, that would put them 5th in the BE. Xavier's been for real for decades. And we've seen what Butler can do under Stevens or Lickliter for the past decade. 2 Finals and 2 Sweet 16's the in the last 9 years. Especially in a hoops only conference these teams would be competitive right away.

 http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7148713/big-east-conference-usa-mountain-west-mulling-single-football-league

"The Mountain West Conference, Conference USA and the Big East Conference are weighing creating a nationwide football superconference of 28 to 32 teams, with the goal of gaining an automatic Bowl Championship Series qualifying bid, according to multiple reports."

I realize that desperate times call for desperate measures, but this is a little bit ridiculous. I don't see this ever coming together and working efficiently, but you never know......

It looks to be mostly geared towards football, so we would likely be left out.....
