Revamped Big East

:( Big East mistakes of the past: committing to football, throwing Temple out of league, allowing ND to join all sports except football, making it easy to leave league, adding new members with no thought to geography.
What will commissiner and presidents come up with next?? BB schools need their own voice.

There have been plenty of mistakes, but IMHO, the biggest was not accepting Penn State as a member when they applied way back when.

The next mistake would be to admit Villanova for football! Jay Wright should stick to coaching basketball!

Can anyone explain this? OTIS? ANYONE??

Villanova Wildcats Football (1-7)

OTIS, I am asking you to render a non-legal opinion as to why Villanova deserves a place at the BCS AQ table. It is that simple! Winning the D1AA championship must have gone to the heads of every Nova fan because nothing they have done since vaguely resembles a team worthy of D1A consideration. Your answer is akin to saying  Bellarmine (33-2), won the NCAA D2 BB crown in 2011 so they should "naturally" move up to D1 and join SEC.

Have they committed any resources yet?
How long will it take them to be competitive at D1A?
Where will they play?
How would it help the current and future BE teams in terms of AQ?
What was Father Peter's last position paper on the upgrade issue?
What is the income stream projection? Attendance projections?
Did Nova present any projections to the ACC to warrant membership consideration?

Bob, I am not trying to break your chops on this issue believe me! I just want a rational response to Jay Wright's ultimatum! Why would he inject himself into the Nova football issue?

Your response is greatly appreciated.

Temple????
But really why does Temple get all the love here?

Probably because Villanova has been dicking around the past 6 weeks with lies and double talk regarding its commitment to the future of the Big East!
Applies to ACC for membership BUT wants to block Temple from BE.
Waffles in its commitment to the Big East by obfuscatory statements by their President such as the September 23rd letter by Father Peter.
Please note the following contradictions-----"We are committed to the Big East and to its long-standing tradition of success". AND------"We will continue looking at all options at the national and conference levels that will enhance our current position as a premier athletic program, including revisiting the possibility of moving our football program to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level."

Is this guy a bullshit artist with his Art Degree or what???????

"As many of you know, the University of Pittsburgh and Syracuse University announced last week that they will join the Atlantic Coast Conference. The announcement caused a jolt nationwide and what ensued was a week of rumors and speculation about how the major conferences might expand and realign. As a long-standing member of the Big East Conference, we are fully aware of the impact this had on the ever changing landscape of college athletics.
Throughout this week, I have been actively engaged in efforts to ensure that Villanova is positioned to move forward aggressively and strategically. I have had numerous conversations with my colleagues around the country and continue to work proactively with the other Big East presidents. My singular goal is to protect Villanova’s national reputation both athletically and academically.
We are committed to the Big East and to its long-standing tradition of success. I want to assure you that Villanova will never waiver from its pursuit of excellence both in the classroom and in competition. We will continue looking at all options at the national and conference levels that will enhance our current position as a premier athletic program, including revisiting the possibility of moving our football program to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level.
I am confident that no matter how the conferences align, Villanova’s tradition of both academic and athletic success will continue for years to come.
Sincerely,

Fr. Peter Donohue, O.S.A.
President

I was happy to help. BTW, Temple gets some love because the BE needs to replace Pitt and Syracuse and they are one of only 2 or 3 options that makes sense in the Northeast (home of the BE) and because, unlike Nova, they want to be a part of the future of the Big East, minus the BS that Nova is specializing in lately.

the larger question...i'm reading notre dame is in charge of the football expansion committee. shouldn't a big east football school be doing that?

this is a freeken mess. freeken!!!

LOL!
The brain trust wanted an "independent" voice in the process! One with no vested interest in the future of Big East football!

One soap opera after another!

Next thing we will hear is the best interests of SJ will be to form a basketball only NY Metro Conference that will require only charter buses for transportation -- SJ, Seton Hall, Fordham, Iona, LIU, St. Francis, Army, Hofstra, Wagner, Manhattan, FDU, Monmouth, Rider, Fairfield, Stony Brook and Marist.

I can't think of one football school that wouldn't bolt given the opportunity, hence i'm ok with endee being in charge.

ND can close the deal by announcing they will join for FB. Syracuse and Pitt would try to back out of the ACC...LOL!

Who won the FCS (f/k/a D1 AA) national championship two years ago?

No offense, Otis, but I think the correct answer to this question is "nobody cares." Nobody. Does anyone remember who won that title three years ago? four?

It's nice for the school and the kids who go there and their fans and alumni. But beyond that, there's not a soul in the world who cares.

It's like saying that a school that wins the County high school title should get a bid to the NCAA tournament.

Enough with the Nova football, already.

72: please don't respond to this post.

I think Robbins makes some good points but this thirst for money is too strong. BC was better off in the BE rivalry wise and geographically, they also had more success in the BE. Unfortunately none of this seems to matter anymore.

There's an article in today's New York Post by Lenn Robbins, West Virginia is off to the Big 12. What now?
