Red Storm Tip-Off

Sheck Wes is definitely not a bad choice. I don't know how much you keep up with today's music, but his song "Mo Bamba" is probably one of the most popular songs out right now. If you walk around campus for a day you will probably hear it playing at least five times. I'm expecting a good performance.
He's very unknown in name. I saw he's signed to Kanye's label, however he's pretty much brand new it looks like. In the past we did very well with French Montana and though Dave East said stupid things, I knew who he was and the crowd was looking forward to him. Just ran a quick poll on twitter and 51% said they do not like the choice (SJ fans). 45 votes so far total. I'm sure it would've been 80%+ approval for Dave East and French Montana in years past. Don't want to make an overly big deal over this, but the administration definitely swung and missed here for tip off after swinging and missing with the schedule and elite camp. Cragg has his work cut out for him from day 1. No more mom and pop please.

Update: 59 votes and 53% disapprove. Lol
Once again, this is for 18-22 year olds who are in school at St John's. Not you and your Facebook friends. As others have corrected you on, this guy will get kids on campus excited.

I don't have a clue about any of these entertainers, but I'd vote for whoever Dawes favorite group is.

Many of the fans on twitter are current students or recent alums who voted. Anyway, if that's who they want then hopefully it all goes well. You can pretend he's an A lister as hard as you want but he's not and other Big East foes get A listers. We got William Hung and other guys get Ricky Martin. 124 votes now and 52% disapprove. Don't blame me, the crowd has spoken.

It's irrelevant...(maybe only less irrelevant than some still not getting over the team name change after almost 25 years)

The event is geared toward the students... The same students who showed up for the "big names" in previous years, don't come to the games anyway.

Winning will bring a loyal student base, than an act performing a few songs...it's not a full show anyway.

A recruit we want (Aidan) listens to Sheck Wes. But we Got WIlliam Hung I suppose. Do you understand that you continue to push the narrative that SJU doesn't know how to do things? SJU is not here to please you alone. One person doesn't equate to everyone. How bout you get behind some of these efforts instead of taking shots at them every single time.

I just skimmed the thread, but very happy to see Billy Joel and William Hung are the front runners for entertainment.

As a late 20s year old and a big fan of Kanye West, I've never even heard of the guy and didn't know he was signed to GOOD. I still follow Kanye news every week.

Now granted, he is very young and apparently just released an album a couple days ago that seems to be generating some buzz.

I can't speak for college students though... so maybe they're happy about this? Hopefully.

Pretty clear that he's most likely going to Louisville. Bought Louisville hat, cancelled his visit with us, etc. I get behind efforts that are good and productive efforts like the Lapchick statue, the AD hiring, the new court, etc. but that doesn't mean I have to ignore the negative efforts or should I say lack of effort on some other things. You're essentially asking me to be biased and to ignore the questionable things going on around the program. Before you can improve, you need to state the issues so you can fix them.

Pretty sure any connection or mention of Kanye would not be welcomed by our players, recruits and their families.

The point of showing Aidan is that Teenagers know who Sheck Wes is. Proving my point that he is not unknown. Maybe unknown to grown men in this forum but not teens, which is the demo for Tip off.

I agree with you, I dont like when SJU does things the wrong way, but we are speaking on the tip off event and nothing else. So how is this wrong or a bad effort, if it hasnt taken place? Because everything you stated before points to it being a bad event, simply because you dont know who Sheck Wes is. He might not be Drake but he has a hit song at the moment which is really popular among young people. Let me ask you something, When was the last time SJU had a bad or not well attended Tip Off event?

Here is a thought, start a fundraiser to raise money for next years Tip Off performer.
So what other song is he going to play after “Mo Bamba”?
A couple of years ago they had Designer who I believe only had one hit at the time.
I was hoping for Paperboy.
Ha! That's going back over 25 years ago when he first came on the scene.

I thought austour meant the guy from Atlanta, but I'm probably wrong.
