Red Storm Tip-Off
Makes no sense to me why we don't get him. He's one of the greatest ever and he transcends generations. He's from Queens too which makes it almost too perfect. Looks like he did a concert in 2016 but apparently it wasn't publicized very well and wasn't for tip-off.

Would be awesome if we got Drake but I'm sure he's way out of budget.
The thing is, this event is for current college students age 18-22 or so. Most kids that age don't care about Nas. Im a huge fan of his, but that's not his demographic.

Just tell him there'll be high school chicks there and he'll probably do it for free.

Unfortunately, I don't think kid's nowadays (holy sh!t I can't believe I'm saying that) would appreciate some of the old school guys like Nas. They are gonna want whatever the flavor of the week is. It's a sad state of affairs when I think they'd get more turnt up for Tekashi then they would for a legend like Nas.

I'll put a diff video there, since there's a curse word right there for everyone to see, and don't want to get warned.

Per Nas:

Remember in the 90s hiphop videos were in the hood, about real shit.
Not fancy cars, gold chains and chicks.

Remember the saturday night dance party? I was to young to go to the clubs so i'd stay home and record it on tape.
What was the station before hot 97?

Today hiphop is to commercialized.

Old school was the best, sad how it changed

I remember just turning a teen and not really into any particular type of music. Went to a friend's house and his older brother was listening to 36 Chambers. It had just dropped. He was telling me about how the Wu was from Staten Island (I was born and raised there) and I was hooked. Then Nas dropped Illmatic a short time later and I was hooked on NYC hip hop. None of that West coast stuff. Just loved the raw sound of the music. Anyway, now like you said, it's all commercialized. I rarely listen to anything that comes out now though.

I guess I'm at the younger end of Nas fans at 29 so college kids now may not know him. But the truth is he's a legend and was always representing Queens and even shouted out LI on some songs. He was and still is a NY legend. The stuff that is out today is trash. Dressing up in rainbows (no slight to the pride community at all lol), tattoos on faces, and not even making any sense rapping about the same stupid stuff. I can't even understand many rappers today. On the way to and from the Queens campus in grad school (only had a few classes at night on that campus) I would have Nas on the playlist. He was right when he said the south was killing hip hop with all the stupid candy paint, rims, lean, and coming up with dumb little dances.

I went to the tip off two years ago with my son when Desiigner performed and 90% of the crowd was under 25 and they came to see Desiigner(I remember Ponds dancing with the giant Panda). I am from the Run DMC days but if you want a big crowd I think you need an act that the kids relate to. This is really an event for the players as you don't see many(almost any) people in the crowd for the tip off at games later in the year.

On the plus side if the school did go with Nas they would save money cause all he needs is one mic.
Surprised nothing leaked yet in terms of the performer.
Heard today someone named Lou the Human might perform. Assume that's not his full birth name.

last year's Tip-Off was streamed on school's Facebook live account.

Does anyone know if that will be the same again this year ?

Odd how there is still no announcement about the performer. When it was a top name like French Montana a few years ago it was all over nice and early. I think it says a lot about the act if they're not revealing it unfortunately but whatever. Also no opportunity to buy VIP seats from an auction like last year. I believe they had these tickets up for auction a month before tip off last year. These are the little annoying things that have plagued the program IMO. Other schools have known the performer a month in advance and it's just run a lot more professionally.

Can he rap? At this rate, we'll need him to be the entertainment.

That’s great buzz, Paultz. Thanks.
Sounds like we’re still in the mix with the kid.
Nice.

Poor job highlighting the start of the season. More of the same.

Really hope this is the type of stuff Cragg cleans up. This is our big kick off party to start the season essentially. It should be plastered inside everyone's heads what time entry is, who is performing, what the giveaways are, etc. They should have known all the above for months and been posting nonstop about it. Instead, people are clueless about the tip off details just a few days before it starts. Stuff like this and messing up paperwork so we couldn't have an elite camp are asinine honestly for a major program. Give free replica jerseys away at the end, raffle off season tickets, have Acquista's giving away chicken parm rolls in the lobby, get Meek Mill to perform, advertise properly and it would 100% be sold out.

Wow can't believe this is this week, just found out by researching on my own. Who the hell is promoting/organizing this? Embarrassing.

Are people even going to show up? Generally people show up for the performer. If you host an event like this and don't get a sell out it does more harm than good.
