Recruits for next year?

Do not sell Christian Jones short. He is a physical specimen who needed to learn to rebound and play some defense. If he improves in those areas he will be a valuable player off the bench. Adonis is a very slow player right now but he could be a very different player in a year with conditioning.

Hay 72,

The operative word in your above post is "if". You are correct, "if" Jones improves he will be a valuable player off the bench, but "if" Jones does not improve then he will not be a valuable player. Given his past performance it is doubtful that he ever becomes anything more than a mediocre player.

Guys like this could possibly help our front court;

@JucoRecruiting: Impressed with Igor Ibaka (6-8/F) of NE Oklahoma. Four man with a good frame. Younger brother of OKC Thunder's Serge Ibaka.

You had me at four man with good frame.

Sounds like you're describing Christian Jones
Let's hope he can be a useful rotation guy next season

I hope you are right, but generally there are some things guys don't improve in...speed to the ball being one. I'd bet Delarosa is just as fast in the half court because of his instincts, anticipation, and fundamentals. Jones has some nice secondary things going for him...decent stroke, good vision, etc...but we need him to get the primary aspects of being a PF down first. I have no tolerance for guys that won't rebound the basketball. You want to be a wing on offense...fine, but you better clean the damn glass. Postell did that and still found time to shoot and handle from the perimeter. Those things are not mutually exclusive.

Don't sell him short
He clearly has the physical tools
He played sparingly as a freshman
Hopefully, with another year of seasoning under his belt, he will be better prepared to step up next year

In fact, the only real time he got was against Marquette at the garden last year, where he was instrumental in the comeback run, I like how he plays and am looking forward to him playing next year.

He is bigger than LaDonte Henton (dog by name from Ed Cooley and his favorite player) I hope Henton shows North Carolina a thing or two about desire.
Meanwhile Jones could emerge with that type of game.

Please don't mention him in the same sentence as Henton. Henton was a beast from jump street. Jones had a fifth year prep and came out soft. Henton is wired differently...I love his game and recognized that immediately.

In the same thread you also said Cooley would be fired after 3-4 years, guess you can't nail every bold prediction ;)

I was just sick of the constant praise Cooley was getting. I did say this about Providence in October: "Providence deserves votes. I know I sound like Shurina here, but they look dangerous."

"And this: Providence is gettin seriously overlooked.

Dunn
Cotton
Austin
Henton
Batts

Geez."

Then Moose said this: "Marillac = ShurinaCheese?"

And Marillac replied:

'Hahahaha...take a look at some of my responses to Shurina over the last two years to prove that one wrong!
I just feel Providence crept up on everyone. Cotton comes out of nowhwere two years ago and the evevates it again last year. Batts becomes a player last year. Dunn was a big time recruit that did just enough to let people forget about his potential. Henton is a potential all-league pick that had a bit of a sophomore slump. They also quietly have two top transfers ready to play this year."

I don't think anybody is selling Christian Jones short. If Sampson and Obekpa return for their junior season, then I think a combination of Jones and Adonis Delarosa will be more than adequate giving Lavin valuable minutes off the bench. Where it gets dicey is if the rumors are true and CO really is on the way out. I hope that's not the case cause if it is St. John's will be absolutely punished in the paint next year.

What are the best sites to see JUCO rankings, though I'm sure that if we were interested in some high profile recruit, it would be posted here.
