Ray Salnave List of Three

No one knows for sure, just my opinion. I think if LJ stays, he will have so many more scoring options with Posh, Cole, Salnave, that he will be much more freed up. This past season teams focused on him a lot. When we had Ponds, Simon, and Clark he was at his best and more efficient since he was not harassed all game. LJ also has the ability to totally takeover a game even if he has a rough game or two every so often. Not sure Salnave has that kind of ability, but if together we will have all the makings for a surprise year in real contention for the NCAA Tourney. Adding Posh, Cole, Wusu, and now possibly Salnave too would really make us crazy deep with much more scoring potential added. I doubt he can replace LJ though just my prediction if he comes and LJ goes.

IMO, Figueroa really isn't the "take over game" type. A very, solid player but I can only recall two games where you can say he "took over." The first half of the Arizona game and the second game versus DePaul. That's two games (or 1 1/2) where I thought he imposed his will. The other games were either solid, mixed or non-existent.

Do I want him back? Of course! But we may already have his replacement in Cole. And if you're not sure about Salnave's ability then no need to make the initial definitive statement.

If salnave commits he’s not here to be LJ. He’s here to be a piece complimenting our improving core.

LJ's scoring average will not improve with the other options we will have. Maybe he's concerned that will hurt his draft status if he comes back?

Not saying I wouldn’t want LJ backBut He hurt us
In many games with his poor shot selection He would need to up his game and become a smarter player Presently, do not see him a 2nd rounder,if he stayed another yr possibly

The key with LJ being efficient is simple: better players around him. We lost Ponds, Simon, and Clark...3 great options that made other teams have to defend them. Last year, LJ was clearly the #1 scoring threat so he was harassed by many defenses. I believe having Posh, Salnave, Cole, etc. plus other good pieces like Champ, Williams, Earlington will free him up in a big way. Really want Salnave and LJ to play at same time. Our bench would be rock solid too. The kid is seasoned and can keep defenses honest from 3. That's what we need more of.

It sure seems that Ray Salnave may be a Johnnie in 2020-21. The fact we have no clue who's leaving to free a spot up is humorous compared to the leaking faucet approach of previous regimes.
Wishing the best for whoever may be leaving and for the team this coming season.

After speaking to Monmouth transfer Ray Salnave last night, St. John's Mike Anderson talked to members of his inner circle today, I'm told. #sjubb

I guess staff thinks Salnave is better fit than Perez, because he seems to have progressed farther along in the process of potentially being here.

Hmm, what does that portend?

Not sure why everybody presumes Salnave coming means that Figueroa is leaving. Isn’t Salnave a combo guard who plays a fair amount of point? If he comes McGriff would really be buried. I think Mcgriff is the most likely candidate to be leaving. We shall see. Btw, credit to Dunn for recruiting a kid who would likely take PT from him.

Seems to me if Salnave comes and LJ stays we would be top 3 in BE, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Generous man :)
salnave also means another opening for the 21 class.
If he comes and LJ departs it's a wash as to '21 schoolies. Just a thought and would only work if Mcgriff would be on board but how about he transfers to a juco for one year. Coming off an injury and not playing for over a year he goes to a juco and gains PT and experience and transfers back to replace Salnave with still 3 years of eligibility remaining. Our backcourt is pretty crowded this year and Mcgriff will be in a battle for PT. I realize this probably only works in a perfect world and we are far from being in a perfect world as we are all painfully aware.

Salnave would be a nice pickup. There will be some really nice competition for playing time as well as depth. Anderson will have many options as to how to line up the players.

Saw him a few times in High School and the closest comparison i could make is Brian Trimble, with not as good a stroke. In fairness, that was 4 years ago. He looks leaner then he did back then. Very on the fence about this one, but i'll trust the staff.

You mean he never drives to the basket? ;)

LJ is still a probable return, Ray is a done deal to St Johns and after the coaches had a talk today i believe you will see a Transfer from St Johns in the next week, roster is about to be loaded.
