Providence (MSG), Wed., Jan. 10, 6:30p, FS-1

They have historically been the most obnoxious fans from my experience through many decades of going to games. Kranmars can back up my stories of the fights we used to get into when they showed their lack of class at MSG back in the day. Let us not forget that this is the fan base that held up signs saying "Patrick Ewing Can't Read This" when they played G-town. CLASS LESS bunch of clowns.
As I was leaving the game, a younger SJU fan in his early to mid-20s said to a nearby Providence fan in his 60s "Good game, you guys played great" in a nice tone, not sarcastic. Because it was true they did. That Providence fan was his wife and son who appeared to be near 30. The Providence guy than took a swing with his fist at the SJU fan that was half his age and was obnoxious. Not a good look for him

I look at it differently. I love that he got those out of the way the last few games. The kid can clearly shoot.

Luis was so nervous his first two FTs that he shot line drives and now his shots almost touch the ceiling.
Funny that you say that, my friend and I were joking about how high he shoots it now. Higher is better than line drives.

Dude played 2 minutes early in the first half. He was a +5 differential. No harm. Taylor will be fine unless we hear otherwise from Pitino.
Conway made 2 stupid fouls in the 1st half . Gee , aren’t all fouls stupid ?

Conway playing and fouling had no impact on the game’s results why mention it ?

The prize for most stupid foul was Soriano fouling Carter late on a 3 pointer . 25 feet from the basket .

Joel is a Wanderer on Defense . Not good

I think most have mentioned more to do with Taylor’s lack of PT. Or is that some we shouldn’t mention either?
I could care less about the Conway 2 minutes but it really doesn’t make any kind of basketball sense.

What sense did it make to bring Brady in the first minute 3 games ago until it worked out?

To you it doesn’t make sense. However it seems to make sense for a hall of fame coach.

Regarding Taylor, everyone is free to speculate.

See that is silly. People get 2nd opinions from doctors, second guess Presidents but it is sacrilegious to wonder what a basketball coach is doing.

Pitino is a great coach, I am still amazed he is here. He will wind up being my favorite ST John’s coach and Knick coach. However he is a basketball coach. He may do things to send messsges or whatever and obviously that is his right but playing Conway at random points does not make any basketball sense.

That does not mean I am anti Pitino.

PS he should have had a guy on the ball on the Laettner play.

And maybe if the media asked him about Glen Taylor/Conway/rotations, we'd have more context that would make us ask questions less.

Harping on bringing in a player around the 14 minute mark of the first half with a 9 point lead is one thing. It’s another thing when said player leaves the game two minutes later with the lead up to 14 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Why is that senseless? It’s not like PC went on a run when he was in there.

The head coach knows he will need certain players ready when situations arise. Pitino’s track record speaks for itself. He gets my benefit of the doubt. No coach is perfect, but better arguments need to be made to call his use of Conway last night senseless.

I understand the logic and Pitino has more than my benefit of the doubt. My question is, in what situation will we ever need Sean Conway? There's situations where we will need Glenn Taylor. But Conway?

I'm interpreting any Conway minutes to be more of a message to the rest of the team about being rewarded for practicing well. But it'd be helpful if one of our beat reporters would ask a direct question about how a former, productive starter is now struggling to find minutes.
