Providence (MSG), Wed., Jan. 10, 6:30p, FS-1

My best friend went there for a couple years. Couldn't cut it.
It might be in the MIT category Academically but , it’s a low key school . Until the Protestors showed up a few weeks ago .

They only take 15 percent of the kids that apply. And , C students aren’t the ones applying . It’s all brainiac types .

Conway made 2 stupid fouls in the 1st half . Gee , aren’t all fouls stupid ?

Conway playing and fouling had no impact on the game’s results why mention it ?

The prize for most stupid foul was Soriano fouling Carter late on a 3 pointer . 25 feet from the basket .

Joel is a Wanderer on Defense . Not good
Both of Conway's fouls were real late in the shot clock and far from the basket. He either didn't have court awareness or clock awareness, or both. In either case he didn't need to foul, and he knew it because he had a sheepish look on his face.

Luckily both fouls only resulted in one point for Providence.

Recapping the Providence win, trying to keep perspective despite being 12-4, 4-1 in the Big East. Trying to learn from the negatives in this one but realizing the resolve and tough skin that’s being built for February and March.

Luis is such a plus getting to the rim and getting free throws. And other guys like Jenkins and Dingle have also been attacking more than early on.

Last 6 games we are averaging 24 free throws a game.

Prior to that just under 16 free throws a game.

Luis has gone 5.6 times a game during that 6 game stretch (played 5).
This is what we were missing most.

Luis seeks more contact than Classof2010 at Rick‘s Cabaret.

My favorite thing about Cooper Union is that it is within a "long-toss" of McSorley's, a place that's been there "since before YOU were born", as their window says.

Interesting fact: Lincoln's second most famous speech was at Cooper Union and led the way to his nomination and election and ultimately to the abolition of slavery, the speech was that important.

I am not sure if it holds true but Cooper Union was "all scholarship" (like Regis H.S.) if you got admitted = NO TUITION.

A good comparison is another academically superior small college here in NY named Webb Institute an elite engineering school that is also full scholarship, = NO TUITION.

You see I played Battleship with my ships in the water so they avoided all those land mines. ;)
I am recovering from Covid (2nd bout) and a reaction to a bee sting. So I will blame my post on brain fog, or as William Shatner always did on Boston Legal, Mad Cow. But I had to laugh at your post and re-read mine to make sure I actually wrote that. BTW, nothing like a hard fought win to make one feel better.

Yes, the Lincoln speech is well documented and spoken about during the college visits.

And no, unfortunately Cooper Union is no longer free. But it is much more affordable than other schools with similar academic standards. They are discussing going back to free tuition in four years.

SJU purchased its current Manhattan building on Astor Place from Cooper Union, and some of CU’s classes are still held there. My son for example takes a class there (which I guess is his six degrees of SJU separation).

No unfortunately. But it is still relatively low compared to similar schools.
They started charging about 9 -10 years ago. I believe students have to pay half of what the tuition would be and the rest is covered. I know a family who had triplets and one received early admission into CU just before they announced they were going to start charging. Since his acceptance was prior to the announcement, he was grandfathered in and didn’t have to pay tuition.

As you could imagine, it was a big deal at the time. Alumni were angry about it too.

But the administration made very poor business decisions, like selling their nicest building to SJU, and then spending millions to build its newest, but less functional building that is used to engineering today.

But it still gives you good bang for your buck.

Is Astor Place haircutters still there? I worked on Broadway somewhere between 10th and 8th in my first full time office job in the mid 80's, before that around the corner at the Bottom Line while finishing off school.
