That’s a good comp.IMHO after 30+ years of attending the Big East Tournament (not to mention the regular season games) it has become apparent that every fan base has a distinct personality. It is like the different clans of hobbits, you can always tell a Took from a Brandybuck or a Bracegirdle.
Villlanova: squeaky clean preppy kids who are either majoring in finance, are in finance, or have a family member in finance.
Georgetown: Also preppy kids, but smarter and more diverse than the Nova crowd. Remember Ewing as a player even if born after 2000
Providence: Angry Southies who weren't smart enough to get into Nova or Georgetown and have a UConn inferiority complex. Routinely drunk and obnoxious. Worst fans in the league ... except for UConn, of course.
SJU: Geriatric Italian-Americans from Queens, their offspring, and kids who go to school with their offspring. Still think SJU is a national powerhouse. Delusional, basically.
Seton Hall: The New Jersey version of Providence.
Creighton: Mormons, basically. Honestly my favorite fans in the league, they're impossible to hate.
Marquette: Midwest Nice versions of Nova kids
Xavier: Older Midwest folks who love their team, hate Cincinnati, and know absolutely nothing about basketball.
UConn: No description needed, but "drunk hicks from the sticks who are hoops nouveau riche" works
DePaul: A mythical beast, I've never met a DePaul fan. At least not that I know of.
Butler: White (all of them, and VERY white), polite, preppy Midwest basketball lifers.
I have had the Italian-American from Queens part locked in since birth, and am closing in on the geriatric part.
My son however just roots for SJU since he goes to Cooper Union. There is symmetry because Cooper Union is a neighbor of SJU’s Manhattan building, which is also used for its students (and was bought by SJU bought from Cooper Union).
Yeah, yeah. I know. Way too long winded a response. But I am responding to one of your posts, so…
