Providence Game

We have really turned it around. Reminds me a bit of 2010.Not saying we are going to make the dance. But, we are confident and can beat any team in the BE. We played team Bb w a lot of people contibuting. I'm enjoying CO s offensive improvement.I also have to give it to DLO for making all those FTs down the stretch.

All you MF'ers who didn't give up on this team - Thanks! We are getting rewarded now.

No Beast, all St Johns fans are being rewarded. We all want to see them win.
Being delusional a month ago doesn't make you a better fan.

Hey I wasn't talking about you, but if you feel guilty, read the posts that shredded every single player and coach, who wanted Lavin fired on the spot. Specifically I was talking about the guys who stayed with the team.

Delusional is an inappropriate confidence that the team would straighten out. We are straightening out. That's not delusional, that's patience.

I'm a delusional MF'er.

We are two bad losses behind where ai thought we would be. I figured we'd split with Provo...although I thought each team would hold serve at home. DePaul is the one we can't get back because I figured we'd sweep them. The other bad loss it the OCC to Penn State. I didn 't think Nova would be as good as they are. I figured we'd split with them too. Since they beat us early, we have to take the next one at their place. We need to hold serve on the teams we should beat and steal a 2 out of the three with Creighton, Georgetown and Nova. Also, Marquette on the road will be a tough game.

Almost any way you slice it, it will take 8 of 9. After a dismal start, I think that the selection committee would open the doors wide open with an 11-7 conf record. Lots and lots of work to do. Agreed that the DePaul loss and the Providence loss with game at hand may come back to haunt them. Look at it this way: Just talking about this team getting on a roll after their start is pretty startling.

Good road win. Wish we could of stepped on there throats earlier and buried those cockroaches by 20. Win is a win. On to the next one

Now if you check the record book, you will see that in our best stretch, we went 8-1, which is exactly what we need over the next 9 games.

I watched the replay times. I thought that Friars double teamed him when he went to the hoop. Why no technical foul on Providence on that play?

Pointer is the biggest ass in red storm history. WTF is he doing

That's harsh. Granted, the kid made a dumb play, but he plays with passion and I don't have a problem with that. "Biggest ass" ever? I don't think so.

Edit: Stupid maybe, but to compare him with Georgetown's Michael Graham -- I hope it was done tongue in check -- is offensive. Graham -- for those of us who remember him -- was the NCAA's all-time goon.

Graham was a dirt bag, as dirty as they come. In fact his roughhouse play led Raferty to criticize Thompsons team's overall classless play. Big John blasted Raf for his criticism of his thugs; attacking his record as a coach at Seton Hall.

Agreed. I wouldn't be shocked to hear he's done some time since leaving G'Town. Thompson asked Graham to leave the school.

But I'd be wrong.

Great win on the road. Team showing what they are capable of, which is playing very well. Must take one game at a time and play each possession like it is the very last possession. If we can do that and rattle off a large winning streak the door may be open to the big dance. One game at a time.

Hey Beast, this is the way I expected them to play the whole season, this doesn`t change the fact that they were 0-5. I`m not going to apologize for being hard on them.
This is what I f`ing expected the whole damn season, I knew they were better then that 0-5 B.E. record so that`s right I was fuming.

There`s no looking back though, full f`ing steam ahead. Lets show Creighton what we`re about. 4-6 in the B.E. but keep wanting more. A win against the #12 team in the country will do wonders to get to where we want to go.

LETS GO REDMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now on Pointer I get that he shouldn`t have went for the dunk, but why did he get a T? After the foul I thought he was gonna hit him but then he stopped himself and was walking away, the big idiot walked after him and grabbed his arm and Pointer still do do anything.
I know if someone grabs my arm I`m shoving him.

So was it the dunk try that was the T, because serious I didn`t see Dom do anything. Seen Sampson jawing with Delories chest to chest .

Yes I`m the typo king

Not many who didn't give up on 'em.

Speak for yourself. There's a BIG difference between getting frustrated and Giving up.

I know folks were frustrated (as, well as they should've been). But I'm also confident in saying some folks gave up.

All the folks who were postingon the Fire Lavin post gave up!!!! All the sarcastic remarks about Lavin saying team will jell in late January or February, what u got to say now. I think some posters just don't like Lavin for whatever reason. Maybe because he ain't kissing some peoples behinds who feel they should have them kissed . Me, I am just happy for the kids and the coaches that they are playing well.

Graham against Grady Reynolds would have been a great match-up. Vince McMahon would have made them both rich, signing them for Wrestlemania after their in-game brawl. Not sure as to who would be the face, and who the heel.

Chris O's emergence in the past few games has been a revelation. He still has a long way to go, but I feel a whole lot better when he's on the floor.

Finally, looking to score. Great improvement; very surprised and happy.

No branch though, unless something happened in practice, he didn't deserve to ride the bench

Him and Sanchez both got a minute or 2 and that was it. Sanchez had a nice reverse layup then right back to the bench. Lavin basically played 6 guys tonight

Can we calm down? If we lose to Creighton we will essentially need to run the table to make the tournament. Don't let the slow start and subsequent run fool you, this team will go down as a major disappointment if they do not make the NCAA Tournament and even with this nice run, the tournament is still a huge longshot. And to say people gave up on the team because a hyped team started 0-5 with losses to the likes of DePaul is foolish. I often posted expressing my opinion that Lavin should be gone yet I still made the 2 hour trek out to Queens to see cheer an 0-5 team on against an Ivy League team. Don't confuse frustration with a lack of loyalty.

I'm late to the party but i couldn't be happier with this win. This was MUST win as far as I was concerned. I don't like that we blew the majority of our lead but love that we took a couple of hard punches and came out standing.

Two things...enough about bragging about how "big" of a fan you are. It's childish. It's actually borderline pathetic. We're all grown men here (I think) and, more importantly, fans of THIS team. I can't stand the Stalin-esque criticisms of anyone who dare utter what they feel.
Second...enough of defending Pointer. If that was the white dude throwing it down on us up 9 with 14 seconds left, you'd all be screaming for his blood and you know it. It was a bush league move. He deserved to get his fouled like that.

Who compared him to graham? pointer has a habit of making bonehead plays and this one takes the cake but it never should have happened. Why did Harrison dribble into the corner and hand him the ball? prov was just letting us run out the clock. Hold it up top and let the clock expire. That whole episode was completely unnecessary.

Excellent post. Could not have said it better myself.
