Providence Game

I hope Lavin suspends pointer. That was dumb and classless

Dumb? Yes.

Suspend him? Please!

I'm sure Pointer is getting an earful about not doing dumb things with the game in the bag.

Once I was at an AAU tournament, with our team getting ready to take the court as the prior game finished. With about 20 seconds left and a team up comfortably by 7, the best player on the winning team submarines a kid on the way to the hoop. Flagrant foul. The kid then slams the ball on the floor as the ref calls the foul. T #1. She goes back to the bench as the kid goes to the line all alone. Kicks a chair loudly onto the court. Tech #2. Team gets 6 foul shots plus the ball. Kid makes all six. they get the ball back and scores. Game over. The kid who melted down was the coach's kid. As the game end, the coach screams to the ref. "Hey, shove it up your...' and throws another chair. My all time favorite comeback

With 10 seconds left probably didn't need to take it to hoop but not gonna kill him for doing so...more concerned with his technical fouls...but, hey we played very well...got out of our game in 2nd half but answered bell when we had to

the big thing is that providence got away with double digit illegal screens.

Amazing how many illegal and moving screens they got away with. If it wasn't a hip check or forearm shiver, then it was blatant moving.

Look it was a great win. Lets enjoy it. There is no vindication yet. Vindication comes if somehow we get into the NCAA tourney team. Bottom line is this is how the team should have been playing all year. no excuses.

Now let's take care of Creighton and give them a Garden Beatdown on sunday and lets all go to the game and root like hell because these kids are finally playing to their potential

Mike,
As disheartening as it was to go 0-5, the scheduling Gods weren't on our side. I don't know if we MUST make the dance for this season to be immensely enjoyable at points. We have been out of ONE WHOLE GAME. Wherever this ends up, these kids have HEART. They could have tanked it, and haven't given up on their teammates, themselves, or their coach. Something to be proud of. This may become one of my favorite SJU teams for good reason.

All you MF'ers who didn't give up on this team - Thanks! We are getting rewarded now.

The only posters who should be attacked on this board are the ones who go into hiding after wins, but are conveniently around to trash everything about the program the second it's apparent that a game will be a loss.

Oh, and guys with multiple screen names, and pretending to be female. Those guys are douchebags.

Now we broke serve, and are at deuce. HUGE win. Season alive. Payback #1.

Sunday - payback #2

I'm with you, Beast!

BTW, I am a big tennis player as well.

When I was at St. John's I worked two summers at the US Open in the men's locker room. Next time I see you, I'll tell you a few great stories of interactions with players.

I would love to hear them.

Ok, I can take off the heart defibrillator. Great win, what I love about the rest of our season is that with each win, our next game turns into our biggest game of the year. It's like we've already started NCAA play b/c it feels like we are playing in single elimination mode. Sunday night the Garden will be rocking.

Batts could have been called for that offensive foul on his screens all game long

Ok This one's for Moose:

D'Angelo played like a senior in the closing moments, and his FT shooting kept Providence at bay. Great job by Harrison. As much a reason for the W as anyone.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean my comment to take off in the wrong direction - some great fans here, and this is a huge win to savor - bend but not break, and make your FTs.

I sure hope the fans and students come out and support the team on Sunday night.

Don't want to hear excuses (Its snowing, I have to get up for work in the morning, I watch Downton Abbey on Sunday nights), especially now that the team is playing well.

I didnt think you meant anything bad by it...there are very few posters who have given up...

Chris O's emergence in the past few games has been a revelation. He still has a long way to go, but I feel a whole lot better when he's on the floor.

I'd LOVE to see us hang MSG jitters and a 3-18 on McDermott's shoulders. Wishful thinking, though - the kid is a player.

No Beast, all St Johns fans are being rewarded. We all want to see them win.
Being delusional a month ago doesn't make you a better fan.

Hey I wasn't talking about you, but if you feel guilty, read the posts that shredded every single player and coach, who wanted Lavin fired on the spot. Specifically I was talking about the guys who stayed with the team.

Delusional is an inappropriate confidence that the team would straighten out. We are straightening out. That's not delusional, that's patience.

I'm a delusional MF'er.

We are two bad losses behind where ai thought we would be. I figured we'd split with Provo...although I thought each team would hold serve at home. DePaul is the one we can't get back because I figured we'd sweep them. The other bad loss it the OCC to Penn State. I didn 't think Nova would be as good as they are. I figured we'd split with them too. Since they beat us early, we have to take the next one at their place. We need to hold serve on the teams we should beat and steal a 2 out of the three with Creighton, Georgetown and Nova. Also, Marquette on the road will be a tough game.

I have to get up at 4 am to be at work. I will be there. No excuses!

Pointer is the biggest ass in red storm history. WTF is he doing

That's harsh. Granted, the kid made a dumb play, but he plays with passion and I don't have a problem with that. "Biggest ass" ever? I don't think so.

Edit: Stupid maybe, but to compare him with Georgetown's Michael Graham -- I hope it was done tongue in check -- is offensive. Graham -- for those of us who remember him -- was the NCAA's all-time goon.

Graham was a dirt bag, as dirty as they come. In fact his roughhouse play led Raferty to criticize Thompsons team's overall classless play. Big John blasted Raf for his criticism of his thugs; attacking his record as a coach at Seton Hall.

Keep it rolling, I posted 2 weeks ago we were sitting on a bunch of wins. Good job Johnnies, CO has been great!
