Providence Game

It was great effort by this team with all that has been going on. The game was there for the taking. I think that Borgault has to get more minutes than Balamou at this point. Balamou commits too many fouls at this point and even though Borgault missed a few tonight, he's a capable shooter and he will get hot if allowed to play for a while and get in to the flow of the game. This team needs to get Borgault going at this point. He needs more minutes. I think Branch will improve as his health does and Greene is playing hurt and so I think he will be up and down the rest of the year.

I think Felix's minutes are fine. He's a hustle guy and you need that on both ends.

Marco's minutes should cut into Greene's. I didn't realize Greene shot 4-16. At some point, you have to send the kid to the bench.

Amir really hasn't given us anything in conference play. I'd like to see Jones get Amir's minutes going forward.

I, too, think Marco should have seen more minutes. I understand his defense is a liability, but there were stretches when he could have been in there.

The other guy I would love to see is Christian Jones! I am sure there is a reason he doesn't see more time, but I just think he has something to contribute.

don't take this the wrong way, but faking an injury is weak. It is horrific watching him shoot 36 percent from line though.

On another point, Sir Dom is pretty impressive in the open floor (as is Jakarr). The team looked to run more tonight than they have in awhile. Good to see.

This team hasn't been the running team that we were two years ago, but I'm hoping Coach gets them to that type of play next year. They have great athleticism as we know, so let's see it on display.

we might not even make the nit now most likely lose last three.

What are you trying to prove by regurgitating?[/ look great effort but at the end of the day its a loss and people are saying we still have a shot at tourney im sure even you agree thats ship sailed . but im very hopeful for next year i think we will make it. but i must say how do you not put in borgault on that last possesion also call me crazy we win that game if we had dangelo.

Good one, Mr. Optimist.

There's an old saying "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all".
i am optomistic about next year but lets be real this season is over hopefully we will get in the nit and win a game or two

lavin is in love with greene 4 -16 and he is in the majority of the game i dont get it

I think that coach may have felt that Marco was not quick enough to guard PC s guards that's why Felix got more play. I also think that if Marco hit one of His open threes he would not have been yanked. Seems he s on a short leash?

Well he always says I'm just being honest, but honestly I don't want to here your honesty after every loss ok so go celebrate the loss somewhere else
jack stop it do you agree we are not getting in . in your heart i know you do . but like i said we will be in next year so stop taking every loss so seriously.

i agree with the defense part but at the same time he has to at least give him a longer leash .

Westchester Joe Wrote: Harrison? Wasn't missed as far as I could tell..Team Chemistry actually looked better all thru the game..But, this is a gang that can't shoot, even open looks..

I am not sure it is fair to say Harrison wasn't missed. I would say that the team chemistry and blend was different without him. At times the different chemistry was more positive, but no matter how you view him I don't see anyone in the half court that has Harrison's skill set. In the last 4 plus minutes of this game our ability to make shots in the half court was non existent. We missed our last nine shots from the floor!!!

How many times have we won games because Harrison has bailed us out when nobody else could make a clutch shot down the stretch. I am not critical at all of Lavin's decision. I think he absolutely did what was necessary for the overall betterment of the team. However I am not going to delude myself in to saying Harrison was not a a factor for us. He was a valuable player on this team and has certain abilities that no one else does. Hopefully in his absence others will grow in to the role he provided for us.

Friars are penciling in this game as a win, even before DLo. In fact the papers there believe this win along with the Hall, assumed win, will put them on the bubble going into the UCONN game.
and a chance at 10 and 8 in the league. I thought after the Cuse blowout that their would be a come down but they won at Rutgers and now assume 2 home wins. UCONN on the road is their fear,
not the Johnnie's at home.

Huh, I must have missed the memo about how they're good enough all the sudden to count victories over teams ahead of them in the standings before the game is played. Sure looked like same old PC against the Cuse.

Sadly, it was true, but the difference was when they needed a 3 Cotton was there. When they needed another 3 Cotton was there and when they needed a 3 again Cotton was there with the foul for 4 points. In the present world of college basketball you must shoot the 3. No other way to look at it. Johnnie.s played an inspired great game but they can;t buy a 3, yet Providence's guards came up with all the big plays when St. John's could have put them away late.

So, here's an idea. When the other team has one good three point shooter (Pitt, PC), let's put in a box and one with Marco guarding the shooter. If the guy blows by him, then so be it. If we give up a bunch of layups, then we can throw that approach out the window, but it may play into his lack of foot speed.

Cooley will fit in well in the new Catholic league

“God gave us that win,” said Providence coach Ed Cooley. “We were supposed to win today.”

Great effort. It took a 4 point play by Cotton to beat us. As I stated in an earlier thread, this team would have been more developed we're it not for DLo who hindered te development if several players including Balamou. I am very proud of ths team. But this magnifies the need for Lavin to bring in someone who can shoot the ball. Marco had open looks and missed.

In any event, they were more enjoyable to watch then any time when Harrison played on this team.

Really? You consider two shots "open looks."? One was right in the cylinder and one was a tad short. Bourgault can play a little and should have gotten more minutes IMO. I think Greene has gotten more than enough time to prove he is what he is; a poor shooter and a fair player at best.
Gimme an Amen!

I think Coach may have been leaning toward the defense tonight and was likely not happy with Marco on that end. Phil played fairly well overall and was good on D. Our rotations on Cotton were not good, but otherwise we played well on that end.

I dont think Phil played well at all...4-16 (which is about par for him) as a SG won't cut it...our next big step will be taken when the quality of the roster dictates that he come off bench...Frankly I don't think he is a very good defender..I watch him and the only guy who loses his man more than him was D-Lo

I've had enough of this Phil Greene stuff. The guy can't drive, shoot or run the point. I don't know what Lavin's fetish is with him but he is killing the team. Absolutely killing them.

There was one particular comical play in which he was leading the fast break and then hung a left toward the wing (Sampson or Obekpa bailed him out by scoring on the possession)...please get him a GPS

For me, It is obvious the key is Branch... we play better when he is on the court... We lost the lead when he went out with the injury. He makes everyone around him better.
