Providence, Fri., Dec. 20, 8p, FOX

I was there. We had maybe 75 more vocal fans but far from a home game. Low ceilings in ballroom. Moisture on floor with guys falling. Leak from ceiling at center court. Three games in four days. No opportunity to practice on one of courts. Not the friendly rims of Jamaica. If we are in Vegas invitational next year will be challenging for sure.
Yes I was there too. That’s true for Georgia game, but the games at Baha Mar felt much more like a home game then the walking dead crowd at Carnesecca for DePaul last week.

Perhaps “overachieving” is not best word choice on my part and should have stated a consistently aggressive D effort by all will come in handy until we demonstrate more offensive efficiency inclusive of better shooting, good shot selection and rotating ball. I obviously however think this is a Tourney team that with right matchups can do damage there.
At the moment this team is still very much a work in progress but agree there is potential. Have to fix some glaring problems and a little flexibility and new-school approach by the coach might expedite that

Zach B noted “It’s no longer a small sample size, over a third of the season. St John’s is a second half team, outscoring the opposition by a whopping 131 points.”

Perhaps many times, SJU physicality and D wear some folks out? PC v SJ on Friday for example scored 42 in first period and 28 in second. As noted before, Smith seems more aggressive and productive in second half. I am sure there are other factors too.

The famous Pitino conditioning keeps our guys fresh and wears other teams down.

That's what I'm going with.

It's amazing how much fan perception of the team and fan mood 180 degree turns based on coin flip results and the cosmic alignment of stars in the solar system. We were no better or worse against Baylor or Georgia than we were against Providence. Happy to see we've returned from "same ole same ole" and the final 4 appearance is back on due to one lucky random game of odds and evens.

Wasn't it the exact opposite last year, at least during conference play?

Perhaps I'm misremembering, but I distinctly recall for most of the season us playing excellent first halves during conference season only to allow teams back into the game and to take the game in the second half. Some of my BE MSG season ticket games played that way. At least before we went on the late season run to get back on the bubble.

Like romance, it's a game of inches.
